That's so wonderful that you caught them! When I adopted my first budgie, Bert, from our local humane society about thirteen years ago, he wasn't tame at all (actually, he was quite terrified of me, so had never been handled). By accident he got away that first week I had him, and flew out of the house. It was November in Michigan, so after following him for a few blocks in our car, we thought he was a goner for sure. Maybe about five days later, our neighbor called, because Bert was back, and attempting to eat little seeds off of the hood of his car! I was able to throw a dish towel over him and pick him up. He had no fight left. I thought it was a miracle. Once he was back in his cage, he ate a ton and fell asleep for a long time. From then on though, he was hand tame. I didn't even have to work with him. He never bit, and he'd let me pick him up and hold him (after crabbing a bit). It was like he decided that nature was scary, and humans weren't so bad! I loved that little guy.
U did a great job! U actually saved them from harsh winter by giving them shelter and food. They found an amazing person and her cheerful flock. Lots and lots of support!😊😊
These budgies definitely were buddies before seeing how they recognized one another like my Mango & Blueberry did. They look very healthy with vibrant coloring and feathers all tightly laid around their body. They seemed to be very well cared for before they escaped their other home. Lucky birds to end up with you! As you know, birds have different face markings. Their toes or nails maybe a slightly different shades. Side by side, you would be able to tell Jack & Thunder apart. If all physical aspects are identical, their behaviors will give it away. Definitely Sky will know which one is Jack and Lightning will know who is Thunder. Get assistance from Sky and Lightning when in doubt about your blue birds! LOL.looking forward to your next video! Love from Rainbow ( looks like your Sky) and us!
I’m just amazed at how you manage to find birds lol…I have never seen any birds around my area (although I did manage to take a pic of a tagged pigeon in my yard once) luckily these birds found the best home 🥰
Me neither! I have found quiet a few birds throughout my life. Whenever I am outside I always listen for birds and watch the trees and check out birds that are flying to see if they are wild of pets, lol
Oh I’m not a Budgie person but the fact you can have so many different colour variations amazes me. I can’t wait for the next video on how they get along and telling the blue ones apart. I have two parrotlets and 2 cockatiels.
Good luck with Thunder & Lightning! I hope they settle in & get along with all your budgies! They're really cute & would make a great addition to your flock! :D
What you did was amazing, don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. If you didn't catch these birds they would undoubtedly had shortened lives i.e. being caught a predator. Life for birds in the wild isn't easy, it isn't a fairy tale. I hope that people can understand that. These birds have to survive for a living and we romanticize how beautiful/romantic nature is while living in the comfort of our own homes. If you don't want your pet never release it into the wild. These animals are our responsibility and we should make sure that if we can't care for or no longer want our pets we give them to a home who can meet or even exceed their needs. It isn't responsible to buy a bird from a pet store or any other pet then get bored of it and decide to release it. Anyone who says otherwise is part of the problem.
It's amazing how you come across these budgies. So glad you took them into your home and hoping it works out among your flock. Great names also; Thunder and Lightning. I'm really looking forward to Part 2.
I don't even know who would think these are wild birds. As far as I know Budgies are native only in australia and only the green one is a natural occuring colour. Lightning is a specific rare colour mutation that isn't even as old as thunders nowadays pretty standard blue colouring. Even IF it was a wild one (which is definetely not possible) you would do the right thing in catching it. A lonely budgie is a very bad sign. Either it is lost and in great danger without the safety of numbers or its flock banished it due to an illnes or injury, so I'm very happy they got a good new home with possible new friends. I don't know if it's just the camera but it looks like jack has a more vibrant blue belly compared to thunder or is this just my imagination?
I just realized this was another one of your budgie rescue videos! I’m still trying to capture the one in my backyard. I’ve never seen it land on the ground, so it’s been difficult finding places to elevate the cage. Doesn’t get too close to it, either. I bought a mini Bluetooth speaker to play the budgie sounds inside the cage and an additional box trap. It also won’t let me get close to it at all. I’m thinking it’s not “tamed” and unused to interacting with people.
To me, Jack looks like a lighter brighter blue and Thunder looks like a darker shade of blue, maybe a little more of a drop of purple. I'm shocked by you finding budgies! That's just crazy how people are (more than likely) letting their pet birds go.
Lovely birds! They clearly get along very well! My husband and I have 5 budgies of our own and are fostering 2 more males for a family friend's mom at the moment. We live in Ottawa and our son and his wife found a hurt budgie outside and brought it to the vet for care but the vet took it upon himself to euthanize it without their consent! There are a few people in our neighbourhood who breed budgies so we figure it may have come from there.
Thats too bad about the found budgie. Maybe it was very ill and since it was a stray the vet was able to do what was best for the bird. I hope the bird was ill and not healthy.
Amazing how you get these wild budgies 😄, Because of your videos I always am listening out for parrots, especially at my feeders! Anyway thanks for sharing! 😊
That's awesome! I am always listening to the birds outside and I think was that a budgie or a zebra finch? I though I heard a ringneck but it turned out to be a woodpecker, lol I have seen a lovebird and 2 cockatiels loose outside but I couldn't catch them as they flew far away. I tried. I am like crazy about going outside and listening, my family thinks I am nuts, lol
@@Loveofpets haha I thought I heard a parrot too once and it ended up being a woodpecker, there’s not that many woodpeckers here so I wasnt used to hearing them, the same thing happened when I heard a white breasted nuthatch. Haha wow how can they think you’re nuts when you’ve seen so many pet birds outside 😆, I can’t believe you’ve seen cockatiels and a lovebird as well!!!! Now I’m really gonna start listening even moreso now lol
Hello. Your video was what helped me catch a budgie that was lost outside a few months ago. He was actually quite easy to catch since he was a young budgie and was tamed. I tried to look for the previous owners and i couldn’t find its home so I decided to keep him and name him Mango. Thank you for uploading this informative video and I’d like to rescue more if I come across any in the future :)
Wow. Ontario? We are from Ontario as well. A friend of mine lost her blue ringneck 😞 a month or two back. So sad. She was not tame to step up so she was hard to catch. She hung around for a few days they could see her in the tree and then she left and she hasn’t been seen since. Breaks my heart.
So lucky! I've always wanted to find a lost budgie, and then one day I did! In May this year I found a sweet pied green budgie! She was absolutely terrified and I somehow managed to catch her without a cage or millet or anything! I called her Citrus but she seemed to have a tumour on her chest and sadly a couple days later she passed away🥺
Why does it sound like a pet store dumped these beautiful birds outside to die of cold and starvation. This happens more often than you think it does. Pretty sad, cause there are people who would take these birds in if they knew this would happen. At the very least people should give them away on Craigslist. Lucky they have you now :) We have several types of hawks and owls here, along with -60F winter weather, parrots don't tend to do well here if let outside. Good names, my budgies would agree. Sunny, Snow, Cloud, Sky, River, and Bandit (she is well known for breaking and entering lol, I was going to name her Thunder otherwise) :D
Most likely they did come from the same place & seems as though the owner just released them all outside (they stayed pretty close together) I’ve heard of family doing this when owners pass away etc they don’t want them & they think they are “freeing them”
Wow this is your 4th or 5th budgie you catch outside? I Kinda wonder if its someone near where you live letting them out intentionally or by mistake. I have seen an elderly women that lives in my country posting very often in lost pets groups. She is elderly and appearently absend minded. People in the group started to react with "You lost birds, again? Maybe you should not get birds anymore?". Because everytime she lost birds, she put an add for new birds because of the remaining birds being without partner now etc. She loses cockatiels, budgies and splendid parakeets left and right..
Oh no! I wonder if she is doing that on purpose just to get new birds. Poor birds. It's usually a death wish to let them go outside. I have gotten so many budgies from outside. 2 were in a further area from my home and 2 closer to my home. There are more that have been spotted in the same area where I found Thunder and Lighting. I wish I new how they got outside.
@@Loveofpets No I don't believe she is doing it on purpose, I believe she just does not have enough security. Oh also you know I have heard of cases of strangers letting out other peoples aviary birds (outdoor aviaries). Sometimes just kids being kids etc. Anyways, maybe you can put an add in the local newpaper? Or local facebook group etc? Someone should know something? Either way, the birdies are lucky they find you
