  • @Vikph

    It was a solid 8.5/10 album for me, especially on the second listen. I loved how it wasn't Em vs Slim but Em(Slim) sending a message to the fans that the slim shady they want just won't work in today's world. Also slim came back from the dead at the end which is sending mixed signals, he doesn't want to do slim but he can't really get rid of slim

    • @usablegamer416
      @usablegamer416 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Eminem got loose and shot slim 3 times (im guessing in the left hand becUse he uses that one to write) then he shot him in the dick (killshot through your cock, cock sucker). Slim then went to the nut house (haha) and they pumped him full of medicine where he just sits there and says random things. Slim never died. I do think there is a deluxe or side B of the album though. I think Slim gets loose and goes after Marshall again. There was too many features that weren't on this album. J Cole, 50 cent, etc.

    Frankly, I like it. The first half being Slim trying to get Em cancelled by taking shots at every minority and even his mother again. And then Guilty Conscience 2 Em saying "hey, you're lame as fuck for picking on people like this", asking everyone he dissed to accompany him and killing Shady once and for all
    And I say it as a part of one of the minorities he first dissed. I don't get offended by it. I like the whole "one last ride for a character that was a product of it's era" and sending him off with a bang

    I knew all along more or less what the album was going to be like/be about, and it didn't disappoint. First of all, the lettering of the album is reminiscent of The Slim Shady LP with it's style and alternating colors, which we have not seen since that one album. Then on top of it, Houdini had that version of Slim Shady's voice in the song for a few seconds (and the video itself shows him). I knew that there was no way the ability to have his old voice back would just be left to a few seconds of a single...this was going to be Eminem duking it out about how he really feels and how Slim Shady would feel today. We saw a glimpse of that concept in the Houdini video itself. How did people NOT expect this?

    Ima just say this is Em 4:44 or mm&bs type album, this is probably what em was attempting to make when he did revival but the concept didn’t stick and nobody was ready for that, now the world and the fans are more mature and like em they are ready to embrace this idea, side note I’m confused how a lot aren’t sees the concept and how masterful it was for em to do it in the most em way and not in another way, maybe I just appreciate the art too much because I haven’t heard a really good em project since kamikaze, personally, and before that recovery, relapse, and his first 3 run, encore I’m not a fan of, anyways that’s my thoughts

But, when I started to listen to it as if he was a script writer or a writer like Stephen King, that shit blew my mind. There's literally nothing this dude can't do. You want bars, check ☒, storytelling ☒, wordplay ☒ ☒ ☒,flows ☒ rhyme schemes ☒ he can do everything other artist can do and do it better. But no one can do what he does. It's crazy.

      @haadyabdul1683 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Exactly, like even in this video dude is hoping for him to make more conscious albums in the future, when he’s missing the point is that Em isn’t even TRYING to do that. He’s trying to do it how EMINEM does it when discussing a concept or rapping about world issues!

    • @LeMicronaut
      @LeMicronaut 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DerickBlackmon-eb8ki That's a pretty neat way to look at Relapse. I think Relapse still felt a little weird because while Slim Shady's character was a serial killer, the beats and writing always felt more dark comedy (Kill You, As the World Turns) or personal drama (Kim, Bonnie & Clyde) than horror, while Relapse definitely leans towards the latter (3am, Same Song and Dance, Stay Wide Awake). But Marshall framing Relapse as a 40% horror, 40% party, and 20% self-reflection makes sense since his addiction was his monster and supposed bread and butter.

    Here's my view and ill try to make it short
    I would say this album is high b teir, and had some high points that we haven't seen for a loooong time.
    Listening to Renaissance and some other tracks made me realize why he is one of the GOATS
    This Generation of music and listeners dont like Eminem, so they think he is bad rather than realizing how good he was and still is.

    I can definitely admit some of the tracks are good, but in a lot of them it's obvious Marshall is just trying way too hard to be 'edgy' and 'offensive', but not in the way the old Shady was. It's more about trying to piss off people who don't even exist, but it comes off as corny and annoying to me

    Album is definitely amusing and I think it's the most self-aware he's sounded in a good awhile, even if Eminem won his culture war and the album's concept is a little flawed as he isn't really going that hard or controversial on anyone or anything. When he was writing about music's impact on youth, freedom of absurdity, musical gangster egos, and the hypocritical government (take your pick off of the Eminem Show), he felt very confident and the bars were fresh from song to song.
    The Death of Slim Shady feels like it's kind of using the same three to four jokes over and over again without really saying anything other than "Don't get mad at me if I use a mild slur to market my album." At least with The Slim Shady and Marshall Mathers LP, he was more openly challenging context and appearances.

    The full album played in reverse the song listing order, it actually changes the context of the to a role reversal of slim killing off em
    It’s very clever showing that no matter what em will never fully be able to stop having slim involved as they have (like with Houdini) become one in the same

    I shared some stories in my Growing Uo In Rock N Rap section, cuz a now deceased childhood friend may have contributed some material. It’s not cus of this, it’s that we grew up in the wrong lives, and idk how long I have. This kid was trying to share some stories of what he went thru, our lives, and other kids experiences. Some aren’t here now. He contributed material to a lot of artists and sometimes new stuff comes out. And cuz it’s important for some other stuff I discussed how me and my cat got dissed over Tobey, a total childhood couple misunderstanding, he came back from a trip heard me talking about Tobey, and freaked thinking the worst. My cat was part Siamese. But I expected it one day cuz they cleared the jokes with me long ago just in case. And since I may not have long and some hopeful justice is needed, I’m hoping fans will care to hear these stories. Or else the world might not know what happened to us. My friend was a talented songwriter and dj. But had a hard hard life. Didn’t make it. So there’s tons more stories. Lots of songs and movies.
    And remember, biscuits eventually replaced English muffins after crumpets did, and gaps in Levi’s were cuz kids weren’t getting enough food, and Em isn’t the actual antichrist. Just to catch peeps up on stuff in songs. It’s biscuits now.

    I have listen to this album three times and each time it's gotten better and better. I really think Eminem is the best lyricists in the game. He didn't dumb down his ability to rap to make catchy songs like everyone else. This really takes time to soak in and I think people will catch bars even months later they missed. This is a solid constructed album that ideas will be fleshed out in music videos. I really think people react so quickly because they didn't have enough time to soak it in. This isn't because it's new it's because it's one of the best rap albums created. As time goes on people will easily put this in top 5 albums of all time from him. It's about the album not one off songs. That is why I appreciate it so much. It's work of art that only make sense when you listen to it as a whole. This is like listen to screaming bloody murder by sum 41. Where all the energy and creation is flowing from all points.

      Exactly how it was supposed to sound, like if there was ever a response from a critique it would probably be this, old em being transported in a time machinie and being brought to 2024, type of thing the album should've lived up too, and it did in my opinion, minus maybe the energy overall isn't the same way it was but it has a great simulation type feel of it.

    Thing is… I don’t think this is the last of Slim Shady. The whole thing with slim is that he can’t die. No matter how hard marshal tries he will never truly get rid of him. Whether he likes it or not. “I don’t even exist, I get a clean shave, bathe, go to a rave, die from an overdose and dig myself out of my grave” time and time again Slim has come back. After all Marshal is Slim Shady’s darling. He possesses his soul, heart, mind and body.

    I think overall the album is pretty solid. To me personally, some of the choruses on certain songs are not what I would stylistically like and thus bring me out of the song quite a bit. But I liked most of the songs on there and I like the overall narrative because it is something we can all relate to. We all have that voice in our heads that, sometimes, thinks of the most awful stuff. Most of us just keep that to ourselfs and ignore them, Eminem just embraced that voice and let him run wild with it back in the day, which created Slim Shady. That Slim took off like he did and what consequences it would have later on surely wasn't really thought about, but society is moving so fast anyway, unless it comes to Eminem.
    Like, think about it, people don't even really talk about the Ukraine situation as much as before. Topics get hot and die down within a week or sometimes they take a little longer. Slim said some really messed up stuff, what, 20 years ago? And it still haunts him to this day. Especially when fans still want him to go back to the Slim Shady days. Well, now he did. He gave the fans what they wanted, the Slim Shady of old one final time before laying him down to rest forever and move on. Slim will always be a part of his career, but I think, since this album was purely around the concept of "The Death of Slim Shady" that this will be the last time. I can't think that Eminem would make a whole project like this and then not follow through with "killing his alter ego" and it staying like that, because I think he realized a long time ago that a character like Slim fits this world and society anymore, which is also why we haven't had much of Slim Shady in a long time. And even though "Kamikaze" was lining up shots at everyone, it was still Eminem rapping, not Slim. But you could say it was a Slim inspired diss album, but he didn't tap into Slim there completely like he did now.

Jelly Roll performed with Em in Detroit and since that day I said “I think Jelly’s gonna be on the new album” and it may not be a full feature but Eminem took a Jelly Roll sample of Save Me for his song to Hailie and Lainey

    The character of slim shady is related to a lot of depressing history for em. His drug abuse his alcoholism. The legal battles with his mom and other artist His battle with depression because of the drugs and the fight to sober up and be a dad. I don’t think he’s giving the character up entirely. But if he is officially stepping away / distancing himself from slim. That’s fine.
