@@DerickBlackmon-eb8ki That's a pretty neat way to look at Relapse. But Marshall framing Relapse as a 40% horror, 40% party, and 20% self-reflection makes sense since his addiction was his monster and supposed bread and butter.
I knew all along more or less what the album was going to be like/be about, and it didn't disappoint. First of all, the lettering of the album is reminiscent of The Slim Shady LP with it's style and alternating colors, which we have not seen since that one album. Then on top of it, Houdini had that version of Slim Shady's voice in the song for a few seconds (and the video itself shows him). I knew that there was no way the ability to have his old voice back would just be left to a few seconds of a single...this was going to be Eminem duking it out about how he really feels and how Slim Shady would feel today. We saw a glimpse of that concept in the Houdini video itself. How did people NOT expect this?

They will say things like the negative reviews at rate your music, i gave it a 5/5 just because haters give 0/5, even though i feel its for 4/5 for me.
This is a concept album in which Slim Shady has been locked away since the early 2000s & escaped or time traveled to 2024 & is like wtf! It's actually kinda genius & exactly what the fans wanted. For Eminem to put this project out at this stage in his career is impressive. After almost 30 years in the game & releasing his 3rd best project (MM LP & E Show are better) is crazy!
Good album. This is what happens when Em is rapping with purpose instead of just putting things out to stay relevant. Context matters on the album, it’s conceptual, and cause of that, he sounds focused. Even the song with Skyler I enjoy, and I hate their collabs normally. But because the song was made with calculation and purpose, it’s really fitting. Glad to hear him again.
Millennials? Isn't Em Gen X at 51? Besides, I think he only jokingly refers to Gen Z considering the first half is full of ironic deliveries of deliberately offensive bars.
Here's my view and ill try to make it short I would say this album is high b teir, and had some high points that we haven't seen for a loooong time. Listening to Renaissance and some other tracks made me realize why he is one of the GOATS This Generation of music and listeners dont like Eminem, so they think he is bad rather than realizing how good he was and still is.
I've only given it one full active listen up to now, but my initial impression is although not as good as his best albums it is still one of his best. I'm thinking his 5th best album. I'll reserve proper judgement until I've listened to it many more times though.
The full album played in reverse the song listing order, it actually changes the context of the to a role reversal of slim killing off em It’s very clever showing that no matter what em will never fully be able to stop having slim involved as they have (like with Houdini) become one in the same
No, the album was to kill off his persona, not to end his career, he’s still gonna do some albums (most likely not) but he will definitely do appearances on other songs (like he’s been doing for years) but I don’t think he’s quitting
I shared some stories in my Growing Uo In Rock N Rap section, cuz a now deceased childhood friend may have contributed some material. It’s not cus of this, it’s that we grew up in the wrong lives, and idk how long I have. This kid was trying to share some stories of what he went thru, our lives, and other kids experiences. Some aren’t here now. He contributed material to a lot of artists and sometimes new stuff comes out. And cuz it’s important for some other stuff I discussed how me and my cat got dissed over Tobey, a total childhood couple misunderstanding, he came back from a trip heard me talking about Tobey, and freaked thinking the worst. My cat was part Siamese. But I expected it one day cuz they cleared the jokes with me long ago just in case. And since I may not have long and some hopeful justice is needed, I’m hoping fans will care to hear these stories. Or else the world might not know what happened to us. My friend was a talented songwriter and dj. But had a hard hard life. Didn’t make it. So there’s tons more stories. Lots of songs and movies. And remember, biscuits eventually replaced English muffins after crumpets did, and gaps in Levi’s were cuz kids weren’t getting enough food, and Em isn’t the actual antichrist. Just to catch peeps up on stuff in songs. It’s biscuits now.
@tylove7992 quit following the hate train if you get over the accents relapse is some of em's best work lyrically thematically and sonically the beats, storytelling all went hard
I DONT FIVE A FUCK ABOUT 90% OF THE ALBUM!!! Trouble was cool making my jaw drop so much on a 40 second track, Brand New Dance really sounds like Slim Shady era… but Somebody Save Me. Jelly Roll performed with Em in Detroit and since that day I said “I think Jelly’s gonna be on the new album” and it may not be a full feature but Eminem took a Jelly Roll sample of Save Me for his song to Hailie and Lainey
Honestly it really did feel like old Em was put into a time machine and transported to the modern day on this album. Flows, writing, dre beats, this album was really solid and definitely better than I expected
Exactly how it was supposed to sound, like if there was ever a response from a critique it would probably be this, old em being transported in a time machinie and being brought to 2024, type of thing the album should've lived up too, and it did in my opinion, minus maybe the energy overall isn't the same way it was but it has a great simulation type feel of it.
Honestly, it was better than most of his other albums in general. Most albums only have one or two hits and the rest is pretty bad, but this album is overall pretty good
The character of slim shady is related to a lot of depressing history for em. His drug abuse his alcoholism. The legal battles with his mom and other artist His battle with depression because of the drugs and the fight to sober up and be a dad. I don’t think he’s giving the character up entirely. But if he is officially stepping away / distancing himself from slim. That’s fine.
Even though I'm a big Eminem fan, I think most of the songs are just almost good, but not quite. For example, in 'Somebody Save me' the rythym is good, but some of the lines Jelly Roll has just kind of ruin it.
Thing is… I don’t think this is the last of Slim Shady. The whole thing with slim is that he can’t die. No matter how hard marshal tries he will never truly get rid of him. Whether he likes it or not. “I don’t even exist, I get a clean shave, bathe, go to a rave, die from an overdose and dig myself out of my grave” time and time again Slim has come back. After all Marshal is Slim Shady’s darling. He possesses his soul, heart, mind and body.
Album is definitely amusing and I think it's the most self-aware he's sounded in a good awhile, even if Eminem won his culture war and the album's concept is a little flawed as he isn't really going that hard or controversial on anyone or anything. When he was writing about music's impact on youth, freedom of absurdity, musical gangster egos, and the hypocritical government (take your pick off of the Eminem Show), he felt very confident and the bars were fresh from song to song. The Death of Slim Shady feels like it's kind of using the same three to four jokes over and over again without really saying anything other than "Don't get mad at me if I use a mild slur to market my album." At least with The Slim Shady and Marshall Mathers LP, he was more openly challenging context and appearances.
My mom threw my eminem cd out the window when i was in hischool. Now fuck. 20 years later theyre bumpin his new cd on a road trip laughing. The guy has mad skills.
90's Gen-Z getting a crossfire because of the younger Gen-Z cancelling Eminem.. yall...not every Gen Z wants to cancel Eminem 😭.. EZ Mil is that example.
Bro this was FIREEEEE 10/10 to be honest, this suprised me based off the singles. Habits and Antichrist are crazy. But FUELLLLLL is the best song, no question. I can’t ignore such a good album.
I have listen to this album three times and each time it's gotten better and better. I really think Eminem is the best lyricists in the game. He didn't dumb down his ability to rap to make catchy songs like everyone else. This really takes time to soak in and I think people will catch bars even months later they missed. This is a solid constructed album that ideas will be fleshed out in music videos. I really think people react so quickly because they didn't have enough time to soak it in. This isn't because it's new it's because it's one of the best rap albums created. As time goes on people will easily put this in top 5 albums of all time from him. It's about the album not one off songs. That is why I appreciate it so much. It's work of art that only make sense when you listen to it as a whole. This is like listen to screaming bloody murder by sum 41. Where all the energy and creation is flowing from all points.
If he wants to retire I respect that, iv been following him sinse 99 he's worked for everything so he should enjoy that and his family and sobriety. Jmo
I can definitely admit some of the tracks are good, but in a lot of them it's obvious Marshall is just trying way too hard to be 'edgy' and 'offensive', but not in the way the old Shady was. It's more about trying to piss off people who don't even exist, but it comes off as corny and annoying to me
That was pretty much the point though. Shady said offensive things to get em cancelled. I’m curious as to what you mean by offending people who don’t even exist.

They will say things like the negative reviews at rate your music, i gave it a 5/5 just because haters give 0/5, even though i feel its for 4/5 for me.
@@Whatyoumeanyoudont even the last joint that Kendrick and Em did together, I'm pretty sure fantano still thought it was mid
He's never quitting he's stated that he's going to rap until he dies
damn you are fast with this video! great video aswel
I think if he has created the perfect opportunity to follow this album up with The Marshall Mathers LP 3
A really good album. We finally got slim back after more than a decade. I hope he keeps releasing
As a 38 year old life long eminem fan, this Is #4 on his best albums ranking, in my opinion
Jid slid but can't say it's in my top 5 oty, still cool album tho , big flaw of this album is it gon make millenials think they hot shit
Salty opinion
😂
As a gen z noones gonna care
Millennials? Isn't Em Gen X at 51? Besides, I think he only jokingly refers to Gen Z considering the first half is full of ironic deliveries of deliberately offensive bars.
Nah we think we hot shit cuz of Kendrick, the premiere millennial 😂
Temporary and Somebody Save Me hit hard A.F.. lost for words.
Those were beautiful tracks
Me personally, I interpreted the album as Shady taking Eminem hostage, before Em breaks out of the chair he was tied to and fatally shooting Slim.
Imo this album was a 10/10! there's 0 skips
wasnt too hyped for the album until it dropped. OH MY GOD! Absolute beast of a release!
Here's my view and ill try to make it short
I would say this album is high b teir, and had some high points that we haven't seen for a loooong time.
Listening to Renaissance and some other tracks made me realize why he is one of the GOATS
This Generation of music and listeners dont like Eminem, so they think he is bad rather than realizing how good he was and still is.
I've only given it one full active listen up to now, but my initial impression is although not as good as his best albums it is still one of his best. I'm thinking his 5th best album. I'll reserve proper judgement until I've listened to it many more times though.
The full album played in reverse the song listing order, it actually changes the context of the to a role reversal of slim killing off em
It’s very clever showing that no matter what em will never fully be able to stop having slim involved as they have (like with Houdini) become one in the same
he was a kid during slim shady and now he's over 50yrs old, time to put it to bed..
He's been trying to. His fans/stans won't stop giving him shizz for trying to be different.
@@arenam79 that’s literally what the album’s about
agreed. The question asked in the video was "why would he kill off slim shady" I just answered it literally like he was asking me personally lol
@@arenam79 oh lol all good
No, the album was to kill off his persona, not to end his career, he’s still gonna do some albums (most likely not) but he will definitely do appearances on other songs (like he’s been doing for years) but I don’t think he’s quitting
Great video as always! I used to be a huge Eminem fan but over time I’ve been rocking with him less and less. Hopefully this album changes that
"Marshal matter" 💀
💀
I do believe that we could get a side b of sorts. I personally love the album. It’s shady for sure. Makes me really think back to my childhood.
2 Gen-Z people want to cancel eminem ❌
2 Gen-z people want to cancel eminem and the entire generation get's blamed for it ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
I listened to the entire album as soon as it released, and I was just wondering how he could manage to not get cancelled for it
I’m calling it right now, RESSURECTION OF SLIM!
Relapse was a conceptual album🔥🔥🔥
Yeah but it was awful.
@tylove7992 quit following the hate train if you get over the accents relapse is some of em's best work lyrically thematically and sonically the beats, storytelling all went hard
@@tylove7992it’s still my fav Em album… a little corny but that’s the point… he flexed hard on that album
@@Joseph18348 I don't need to follow anything, the only good tracks were "We Made You" and "Underground". It's probably his worst album in my opinion.
@@tylove7992 beautiful left the chat
I honestly loved it from start to finish
I DONT FIVE A FUCK ABOUT 90% OF THE ALBUM!!! Trouble was cool making my jaw drop so much on a 40 second track, Brand New Dance really sounds like Slim Shady era… but Somebody Save Me. Jelly Roll performed with Em in Detroit and since that day I said “I think Jelly’s gonna be on the new album” and it may not be a full feature but Eminem took a Jelly Roll sample of Save Me for his song to Hailie and Lainey
Why are yall up 😭😹
work.
U?
Have you heard of different time zones lol😂
Timezones man... Timezones. :D
Why were you up? Huh? I actually caught it as it released (at 10:04pm for me) so I passed out listening to it 😂
Did we forget that Eminem proceeded to shoot slim Shady in a Guilty Conscious 2?
"he goes by the name of marshall matters"
I think it's the best thing he put out since MMLP2
Honestly it really did feel like old Em was put into a time machine and transported to the modern day on this album. Flows, writing, dre beats, this album was really solid and definitely better than I expected
Exactly how it was supposed to sound, like if there was ever a response from a critique it would probably be this, old em being transported in a time machinie and being brought to 2024, type of thing the album should've lived up too, and it did in my opinion, minus maybe the energy overall isn't the same way it was but it has a great simulation type feel of it.
Best Eminem album so far
Only Eminem can outdo himself as the Slim Shady character. I love Slim Shady. But the New Shady, I'm obsessed. Hip hop needs him.
I better get a Eminem black ops 6 skin
after just have heard "somebody save me" then seing the title kinda freaked me out a little😂
I listened to it backwards first time. I ended up thinking Shady won, and he was back.
Honestly, it was better than most of his other albums in general. Most albums only have one or two hits and the rest is pretty bad, but this album is overall pretty good
I wish more people knew about icp, which was Eminem’s supposed inspiration to create slim shady as a character.
That album go hard AF 🔥🔥🔥
The character of slim shady is related to a lot of depressing history for em. His drug abuse his alcoholism. The legal battles with his mom and other artist His battle with depression because of the drugs and the fight to sober up and be a dad. I don’t think he’s giving the character up entirely. But if he is officially stepping away / distancing himself from slim. That’s fine.
Did you hear the same album I did? This is the shit, man!!!!!
No one can be slim shady because slim shady was a black airforce crashout certified menace 😭
Brand new dance on Eminem’s new album kinda sounds like just lose it
No it sounds like same song same dance
I dont think hes quitting being slim. It's a concept album
I doubt Eminem will be finished, because in Houdini (part of this album!) said “You know I’m here to stay.”
1.25x speed hits like goldilocks
fire ass album. literally killing his alter ego. one of my favorite conceptual hiphop albums ever
I think he just fused his two characters. MM, Shady is all the same now. It’s called Eminem. And it is here to stay.
Feels like a lot of people didn't really think about the album in the context of the concept and took the songs at face value.
This album is pure gold.
If u listened to this album from the first track to the last track u listened to it wrong listen to it in reverse from the end to the begining
I thought the new album was amazing because we got some of that slim shady rap back.
90's Gen-Z getting a crossfire because of the younger Gen-Z cancelling Eminem..
yall...not every Gen Z wants to cancel Eminem 😭.. EZ Mil is that example.
Hell, the majority of the young gen-z doesn't even want to cancel him💀
Eminem is undeniably a huge part of the culture, period
Eminem was originally going to end his career after Encore; funny how the albums which titles are meant to show his end seem to be so popular.
insane cuz when godzilla came out nobody tried to cancel him
My guess is musically Em might b set since 8mile might get a show soon that might b the next phase to his career
There are a few songs that I found weird but other than that, I love the album, especially "habits", "somebody save me" and "guilty conscience 2"
First thought: I’m not really messing with it🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I quite like it, but we can all have different opinions!
Bro this was FIREEEEE
10/10 to be honest, this suprised me based off the singles.
I was kinda of confused cause I grew up listening to Eminem and I’m gen z
Slim Shady has a grit to his voice. Always sounds like a chainsawwww
If he wants to retire I respect that, iv been following him sinse 99 he's worked for everything so he should enjoy that and his family and sobriety. Jmo
🤓☝️ Erm actually it's not Robin it's rap boy.
you got me ngl... youre right
@@KingBenny damn I didn't think you'd respond fr 💀
I can definitely admit some of the tracks are good, but in a lot of them it's obvious Marshall is just trying way too hard to be 'edgy' and 'offensive', but not in the way the old Shady was. It's more about trying to piss off people who don't even exist, but it comes off as corny and annoying to me
That was pretty much the point though. Shady said offensive things to get em cancelled. I’m curious as to what you mean by offending people who don’t even exist.
it was a great concept and executed and very important to his career but musically i feel it could have been better in the flows, beats, and hooks
But samurai came out….. by lupe fiasco 😢
