  • In this episode of Bonsai-U, Bjorn and the team repot the largest, and oldest, tree at Eisei-en - this massive One-Seed Juniper. Originally collected in the desert of New Mexico at an elevation of 4500 feet, this Juniper Bonsai is perhaps the best of its class in the world. Watch as the gang takes you through the mechanics of repotting this extra-large bonsai!
Note* This tree was collected legally by the owner of the land upon which it grew.

Well trees live more while under human care. Pathogens are dealt with and things are prunned to stimulate healthy growth. Also acquiring nutrients stops being an issue. So long as there are caretakers the tree can go indefinitely throught the centuries.

We're not assured of "normal" shopping even by this Summer. If your business is bonsai, you have to take care of business. So if late March in Nashville is optimal repotting time, repot you must. Especially for the care of a 1400-year-old.
I don't think that vegetable farms should not plant, or that commercial fishing boats should not assemble their crews, while wauting for an "all clear."
Those with a totally in-the-home income might not understand. However, someone had to experience close human contact in order to harvest, process, or package the food which you just had delivered.
Notice how eating alone puts others in danger.
Great video! Made just before masking up was recommended, I think.

The vertical part of the structure is sound. All other bracing against lateral movement? Not so much.
You're relying on the "neck strength" of the fasteners for support. Never an optimal choice, especially with screws.
Always use triangles (gussets) and the load strength of the materials. Diagonal props on your uprights staked into the ground, cross brackets between them with the face of the material, notches help, taking the load...
Just as a suggestion, I would look into renting a single level of staging from your local building centre. It would probalby be cheaper and go up very fast.
