I truly need to go back to the basics and start SMALL! I often overwhelm myself by thinking of a simple subject and over-thinking and over-detailing it. I have to remind myself that painting say - a petal - can be as helpufl as an entire flower. I think for my self, my biggest downfall is thinking too big. I have been considering some simpler ideas and I just need to go with them and create the habit of creating 'smalls'. Thank you so much for this reminder, Kelly. I just love your book and documentation of your year!
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts Sheila. It is funny how we feel it must be a full painting instead of little bits. When studying layers, I took it slow and simple to understand the process and it taught me so much. I love the petal instead of the flower thinking, it is wonderful!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your kind comments! Yes, we actually saw the pileated woodpecker. We live on wooded property and they make appearances throughout the year. I absolutely loved this video! I had been in a class for watercolor for a few years. Covid hit and I could no longer go and afterwards it did not start up again. I am feeling the call and think this is a wonderful way to start. Thank you so much for showing your 5 minutes a day! I made my own art paper book and started this project , yes in the middle of March. I have completed a few days and have found such delight in how this looks and how much fun it is to figure out what I will paint to remember each day. You have such great ideas to inspire. So glad I found you. I am enthused about painting again. I share your delight in leaves. They are so amazing. the weirder and more chewed up the better.

This is magical. It is utterly beautiful! Tomorrow is March 1st; I’m inspired to begin a "Dear Diary" using a new sketchbook I haven’t yet touched. It doesn’t need to be a full page, but maybe half or even a third of the page of what happens in my life. Now because of my age (79 horrors) I don’t go many places, however I have a treasure trove of beautiful things in my home I could attempt to illustrate. That would make a pretty memory book. It needn’t be daily as diaries aren’t always kept on a strict daily basis. Thank you for your beautiful art and for your most unique inspiration.

This is so cool to see and encouraging. I made a resolution this year to do something art related daily. I bought a coloring calendar book with coloring page on left side and weekly page on right side. I would finish a coloring page a week and write down what I did daily (no introspection). So far I am keeping it going.
I also copy doodles and simple watercolor I collected on internet. I am no artist but I like line ink and watercolor challenge. It gave me joy when I could reproduce decently.
You definitely are an artist - creative, inspired and doing art daily! What a beautiful way to create!

I live in inner London and one can feel cut off from nature but it is there and a little revolving box is a wonderful way of bringing nature into ones art, and such things are great for ideas for mark making. This is the first video of yours I’ve seen and I am so happy! Your handmade watercolor journal of circles was just the type of painting I love! ❤️ I especially loved the little semi-realistic girl with glasses and a tam. I truly enjoy the variety of your subjects! I personally like a variety of references. I enjoy watercolor flowers but I see some artists on YT only do florals. I find this boring even though the artist’s work is lovely. I am also super impressed with your hand lettering. I’m not an artist nor is my normal penmanship anything to brag about but I love the relaxing feeling I get from painting, and watercolor is my favorite, as well as being creative to some point. I am old now with multiple health issues including lost vision in one eye, COPD, Heart Failure, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Diabetes, peripheral neuropathy and a very bad back. Because I have been unable to walk as much as I should due to my breathing, even in 3 lpm O2, and my weak and painful back, the muscles in my legs and feet are deteriorating. Only giving you this info so you understand how channels like yours are such a blessing to people like me. I do my paint in bed which is difficult but there are many people much worse off than I am yet they find a way to find their purpose. In my painting I really enjoy making cards and sending them to the sick, bereaved, discouraged, or just because I love them. I am going to go back and watch your tutorials. Thank you dear lady. Forgive my blabbing on and on. God bless you in every way! ❤️🙏🏻

Wow! I have never seen your channel before, and I love your art! You have definitely gained a new subscriber. I didn't want you to flip the page in your sketchbook as you were showing it because I wanted time to study every illustration. And by the way, as someone who fell in love with art as a child from a few pages in a Richard Scarry children's book, I love that sketchbook with the vintage children's book cover, and it disappoints me that I can not buy one. As an adult my husband and I sold antiques for many years, and I collected children's book because I love the vintage children's illustrations. Your artwork in this sketchbook reminds me of the illustrations and art in vintage children's books.
