Awesome video! Thanks! I'm thinking about moving to Taiwan in January to teach English, and videos like this really help me understand the culture before i arrive! Food IS culture :D
+Chris James Taipei is a pretty cosmopolitan city with a good metro, so i wouldn't worry about it. They're also a city with a lot of fusion foods that even the west brings over. =D
I came back from Taiwan yesterday. That was a fantastic experience. A familiar facade to many things, just a different culture. All my interactions were successful even with different languages. The MRT is super easy. The food is addicting except maybe for pig blood cake and black bean milk. I would have to visit again some day.
I watched this video as I am off to Taipei and Vietnam next week. I then watched your Vietnam videos then was hooked on your kind, funny informative and happy personality so I watched every one! So informative, great advice and felt I was at your destinations as you described everything so well. Thank you so very much and happy trails to you :)
Going to Taiwan tomorrow, I mean later. It's already 4AM and see I can't sleep yet I'm excited.. Hahaha We'll be staying in Ximendung which I think it's great because it is the night market itself wow.. Can't wait
Ohhh dear, this video is amazing, I was there my self twice and I allways absolutely love the foods there except stinky tofu. :-) Superb vide, really love watching your videos about Taiwan. Thumbs up.
Wow Taiwan came along way since breaking away from China, there food looks very wholesome and you make it look delicious , so walking with you anywhere id feel safe , thanks for upload have a great day Jerome from Florida
My favourites are mochi taiwanese sausages taiwanese shaved ice bubble tea scallion pancakes with eggs Gyoza (i'm not sure if it's really tauwanese) Dumplings Baozi Egg cakes and so on, so for me it's pretty much everything:) but some things like bitter cucumber, stinky tofu, sea cucumber, etc are not really my "favourites"😂 no offense it's just not my sense of taste although it may be for othersXD
Enjoy your VDO thanks for sharing. As we're going there next month, just like to know if they have money exchange stalls on the streets as in Thailand, Malaysia or Hong Kong ?
I never get sick of that outro! anyway loved the vid! everything looked great! how much does it cost to hire someone go show you around the Tiwanese Cuisine?
Did you try any deep fried sweet potato mochi? Loved Taiwan. We went in May 2016 and it was hot, if you went towards July 2016 I'm surprised it was so cold - All the more fun I say!The Betel Nut - My partner and I were on 5hr train ride to Hsipaw, Myanmar and the couple in front were spitting betel nut juices out of the window and was coming in onto us - very funny in hindsight - you're brave for giving it a taste!
the weather looks so confusing there, I see a ton of people wearing shorts and short sleeve T shirts and yet also see some people wearing scarfs and heavy parkas haha
Roughly how much did the food cost? I visited your blog, but there isn't any info on the price for each food. I'd like to know as I'm budgeting for my trip to Taiwan, and I heard the food is a little pricey (in terms of my country's currency exchange).
Christine, did you notice any citrus in the majority of dishes? I'm severely allergic and am a bit scared to travel around for this reason. I know I'd have a hard time in Thailand and Vietnam since from what I've seen every second dish has some sort of citrus juice in it. I really admire what you do, I hope I can work up the courage too one day lol
+Vince Night Frm what I gather, a big influence is China and Chinese food is a little more dense with beef, chicken,etc..., I feel..But there are citrus fruits and drinks in Taiwan. There's really so many options from breads to soups, meats and seafood.. I feel you'd be able to find something. Thailand for sure likes to mix sweet, sour and salty together into a balance so dishes have a spicy but rather light and refreshing flavor. That's part of their cooking style. Taiwan isn't so much like that. Also, the thing about street food (that's different from restaurants) is that a lot of it is prepared in front of you, so you can see the ingredients and cooking style. In Thailand, there's rice porridge-- the most non-citrusy you can get. You might try that if you ever go back.
Lot's of vegetarian food in Taiwan because there are a lot of Buddhists there. There are also a lot of fruits and vegetables availably, but you want to make sure to tell them you are a vegetarian because some good could be cooked with meat.
Angela Ma It is part of Taiwanese street food. A lot of Taiwanese street food are originated from other places. A mix of Japanese, Japanese, western, and local culture.
HY CHRISTINE..YOU GO AROUND THE WORLD. YAH TIAWAN IS THE WORLD OF BUBBLE TEA. THE SOUP PAO IS REALLY TASTY AND YUM YUMMY. I SAW YOUR VIDEO .YOU WENT TO INDIA CALCUTTA KOLKATA.. Damnit your videos always make me miss my travels. Was at Taipei last year & I thoroughly enjoyed raiding the night market with my friends & going back to our airbnb to lay all the food out on the table, like our own street food feast!! Didn't enjoy how almond drink stalls smell worse than smelly tofu stalls though
Taiwanese passing by, never heard of Bei Min Fong Ling Bin, but it seems popular is some traveling blogs! I did some research for you, the address is No. 9, Alley 33, Lane 216, Section 4, Zhongxiao E Rd, Da’an District, Taipei City, 106, hope you have fun in Taiwan:)
Im taiwanese studying abroad, all these videos just make me want to buy a ticket and rush back to taiwan right away. God i miss my home so bad.
+劉晉廷 Taiwan is a great country. What top three Taiwanese dishes would you recommend here? 😃

I am enjoying these videos. I am going to Taipei for nearly two weeks soon. These videos help take some of the fear of the unknown away.
+Chris James Taipei is a pretty cosmopolitan city with a good metro, so i wouldn't worry about it. They're also a city with a lot of fusion foods that even the west brings over. =D

I love stinky tofu so much!!😍
Hi! What month was this video shot? By the way, love this food vlog of yours -- was literally drooling the whole time! =)

Great, thanks for the info! =)

omg you tried betel nuts! next time try chicken testicles, it's only found in Taiwan and it's one of my favorite dish!

+Global Adventurer Right? who knew that you could do that to food? =D
Ji dan gao is egg cake

Angela Ma
It is part of Taiwanese street food.
A lot of Taiwanese street food are originated from other places. A mix of Japanese, Japanese, western, and local culture.
I’m probably the only person watching this to take to school for international week XD

You are the female version of Mark Wiens... seriously
The FIRST thing that came to mind when I watched this, too!
visit me in taichung city. you will find another unique taiwan street food.
I think tht "snack of the century" tht squid ball is actually frm Japan but also famous in taiwan
Reli jeolous of u always travelling 😢
+BORBOR I'm not sure where it actually originated but I've seen it in Japan too. =)
it was originally came from Japan for sure
The original Japanese tacoyaki is softer than Taiwanese version. I prefer Taiwanese version though.
Taiwan is the best""" i miss taiwan
When I had my betel leaf in Myanmar, I gave the same expression. Lol
Yours was bitter or was there a flavor to it?
GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa I just remember the bitter part. And I thought, "why the hell do people find this so enjoyable?"
1:14 Scallon Bread
the number 1 thing is taiwan is arguably the black pepper buns.
I’ll have to go back!
lolz i think u mean takoyaki for the squid ball thing --- taiwanese culture has a lot of japanese influence as well
I like pearl milk tea well
that soup looked like jook, but with noodles and fish instead of rice and chicken
oh~u r so brave to try the betel nut...i dare not try that, even if the taste is good...(but is not)...
+張立人 I don't think people try it for the taste. Ha ha ha
+GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa u r right ha ha
