Fantastic job. I repair one 2 weeks ago and came to the same conclusion. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who came with the same idea. The only thing different that I did was. I added some hot glue to the plug to guarantee it not to move fantastic job.

Garmins products are not ment to be repaired by design. Watches, GPS, Cycling computers. They are all made like its a throw away product. Really hope EU is gonna do something all the other consumer products, instead of only focusing on phones.

Was charging my ipad and watching a movie suddenly it went off and hasn't turned on they're was no sparks the charger I'm using is still good but it refuses to turn on, tired everything but one thing i can say is that while charging since it turns off it heats but not to degree of panic

Hi Alex, nav systems is what I mainly do, the red wire or positive always goes on the square pad. All the best.

The square on the motherboard on the right side is pin one. The connector may have a triangle on the connector indicating pin 1

I probably would've put some kapton tape on the substrate around the connector to be safe but it's probably fine

1:22 The orientation in question looks to me as if the two right-most connections are for power, looking at the width of the copper traces.
I was thinking the same thing. Also, the end wire next to the black ground is red indicating the positive power connection.

It is possible that the battery is shot. Too many things it could be so I would listen to @don4techy.
