      I believe that two similarly looking doors opposite of each other are actually drop pods(you use two later on) and the odd one out is actually an elevator. It should also be noted that 1)it was probably fully build for their species and modified only later on; 2)Cessna 172 is also a private plane. Not every yacht or even luxury yacht is something only billionaire could afford. I think that you've been too pampered with Millenium Falcon which is actually a VERY unique ship in SW setting with how it was modified; 3)yacht designation is an official one. Less official one might be "something we have build for piracy, but wanted to pass officialy as civilian vessel".

    It should be noted, I believe the massive "wing" is there entirely for gameplay purposes. On most worlds you can see it long before you actually get to the landing zone. It acts as a very visible landmark for the player without them having to use the mini map

      I'm not so sure about that; the game tells you exactly where it is and it is hard to get lost in the game's very linear map design. It's not exactly labyrinthine. Sure, you might get lost for a few minutes but you walk backwards a waise and go "oh. that's where I am, okay."

    I think a lot of it is inspired by smaller single hull sailing yachts irl. That would explain the galley, windows, dimensions and the way you have to go through rooms to get to other ones rather than just having a hallway. I liked that about it. @cgi2002 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It's actually deceptive, as from the outside it looks too small to fit. However half way through the ship you go up a small set of stairs, meaning the rear half of the ship could easily be 2 decks. Even more so when you realise the race that designed the ship isn't exactly tall, the lower deck only needs to be half as tall as the rest of the ship to make it big enough for them to walk around in.

      @cgi2002 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@erkprower3937 true. But since this isn't known to be one if the big ship building races, it's reasonable to assume that the fair number of their designs would he focused towards their own people rather than other races. Besides you could argue it's both in this case. The height of some of the workstations is definitely too high for them, but then the lower deck appears to be. The pilots chair I would argue is adjustable (its on a single leg that appears to pivot under it). So it's a messy design but at the same time, it kind of works.

    The moving engine is known as a outrigger style, the hall below is where the escape pods are, upstairs has two "bedrooms" the other is probably just a utility closet or bathroom. The ship is a small personal yacht so it doesn't have to actually sleep a bunch of people although it has a good bit of seating for hosting guests when you're landed somewhere. I agree it's not the fanciest yacht but maybe it has to do with its builder's culture and what they consider "nice".

    I'm not a big fan of forward fixed weaponry on civilian ships, mostly because the kinds of threats civilian ships need to be armed against tend to be fast moving raider ships that can easily outmaneuver ships not expressly built for combat. Agreed. One of the areas the civilian designs in Star Citizen excell in, they are frequently outfitted with retractable manned or remote turrets, usually with good rear arc coverage since a civilian ship tends to be running *away* from threats.

    If you talk to Greez on Zeffo Cere explains that Greez talked up the Mantis as 'the best and most luxurious ship for the job' when she was looking for a ship which is why she chartered him. It's probably more akin to a light freighter than anything.

    Lots of thoughts, first i found your merciless breakdown of the ship amusing. Second, the escape pods are located on the lower deck, which I agree is impossibly large for the ship. Third is that the ship does get about a foot wider right after a kitchen which makes the the two rooms on the starboard just wide enough for a bed and the larger one on the port is probably Greez’s captain’s quarters, neither options are very large which allows the explanation of kal sleeps in the engine room because he’s the only one who needs the extra space for Jedi things. And lastly, the folding engine/wing thing may have been included to give the ship a sail like feature.

    Late to the party but I wanted to say the lower deck is of a normal height (so it definately wont fit in the outside) and that's where the escape pods are located. You see it in the final mission where Cal hops down and is talking to Cere as she's prepping the pods. The hyper drive is in the background and your looking at its lower half with the decking then the upper half. So he and Cere have to be on that lower deck.

    "You want as few moving parts in a space ship design." BUT, it is a yacht, a relatively non-lucurious one but one at least. The manufacturer may have put in as a feature of elegance and complexity or less likely but equally possible reason being the initial owner having even requested it, what I'm saying is it's only a problem if it breaks and you either have to fix it yourself or have financial strain fixing it. A rich, Kuat chief of a design board member I'm sure would not have difficulty in paying only in how it looks.

    I had issues with the shop design interior too. That rear hallway should have extended all along the wall of the ship, with the big staterooms on starboard side of the ship. A step up for the engine room, the ladder would work if you needed to get to the keel of the vessel, but a grated deck that you could fold out the way or remove would make better sense for that ladder. I felt that first room on the port side was the latrine[head]! I felt this ship was more of a Winnebago design, where the seats could double as a berth. 😉

    I'm no physicist but the only reason that comes to mine about the tertiary engine swinging down is to counterbalance the wing on top in flight. Even in space you need flight counterbalance for the sake of momentum. Probably useful when leaving a planet as to provide extra thrust underneath the ship for attaining escape velocity more effectively and efficiently. Idk just a thought. The extra large landing feet make no sense in overall design. Think about Naboo ships. They have tiny little landing gear. Even for the Queen's Yacht that was blown up in Ep2 AoC. I agree with you the front 2/3 of the ship is beautiful and the cockpit setup reminds me of bridges from human vessels in other Sci-fi universes.

    I've got an idea, doesn't make much sense for starwars but here goes: Maybe the servo for rotating the s foils is very low powered, and only works when they are both connected as counterweights. So when landing in atmosphere it rotates it all, locks the engine in place, then uses some aileron on the end of the wing half to lever it back up up for a smaller landing footprint.

    I believe that the escape pods used later on in the game is down that ladder in the "guts" of the ship. My theory it that the ship only has two small personal quarters, (the orange doors in the mid-section.)
    The floor is elevated from the mess and back, giving space to a lower deck (if the outside frame would be a bit bigger)
    On the other points I believe you are correct.

    The lower deck looks to be half-height, probably for maintenance rather than hosting additional berths. I think both of those doors were escape hatches as Cere and Cal both use a pod at the same time, which also suggests that someone was supposed to be left behind if the ship got into trouble.
