These songs are sacred............They're American Blues Hymms. Thank you for treating them with such respect and staying true to the original recordings.
That’s an hour of my life I’ve just got back…. If I watch that on repeat I could be 17 again by 2062 … so much brings you down, but the blues can inspire and lift. Thanks.
Edward Phillips you are AWESOME. The history of the blues is still alive and well thanks to guys like you. Nothing better than a man (or woman) singing and playing the guitar with nothing else in-between. Hope you keep doing it till the day you die brother
That's a crap load of work man...fok you must have spent years workin on those... what an achievement! No one suddenly plays that well..... Respect man! Very inspiring! Thanks for sharing - what a treat! Your Blues Rocks! Haha! Cheers from Cape Town, South Africa!
South- 110% agreed. Years of work. Nobody talks about that. Evh used to come home from hs and work on his songs. “ naw, I got to go home and practice “ he told his friends.
One thing I like about authentic renditions of old recordings like this ('40s Big Band is another example), is that as much as I love the familiar old analog sound and sometimes the sound of the scratchy old records, is that these are almost certainly closer to what it would have sounded like to hear Robert Johnson, Benny Goodman, and so on. Glad I have both options here on YT.
Love the Robt. Petway number, you have a nice style and strong vocals, I started playing in 1969 when I got home from Vietnam, then I saw Fred McDowell at a Seattle Folklore Society concert and was hooked. Then I became concert promoter and we booked all the original bluesmen to come up a do a few gigs. I was very blessed to play with the greats, even got some Robert Johnson stories from Johnny Shines, Booka White once asked me what happened to Washboard Sam. They got separated over the years, Bukka used to stay on my friends' houseboat on Lake Union, he dug Seattle. That's a sweet resonator there, I have a Jay Turser. Keep pickin!!!
Great compilation Some suggestions for next time: Spoonful blues Good morning little school girl Smokestack lightnin Black snake moan St James Infirmary blues Poor boy long way from home Last kind words blues Dry spell blues Farther along (gospel song) Come around to my house mama Worried life blues Pistol slappin blues Motherless children Samson and Delilah Pony Blues
Thank you soooo much for keeping source music alive, I love your voice/ playing virtuosity, you are possessed of power, blessings. I will follow you. This music must be kept alive!
Every time I listen to it, I'm completely amazed by the quality of your interpretations. It's simply magnificent, or even more so... Words cannot describe it. Thank you for all this beauty!
Mr. Phillips, as a slide player I really get a lot out of your vids, as they are such informative examples of Delta and old acoustic blues, and you also sound so good doing it. Your renditions are a pleasure to listen to. But it's also so cool that you are keeping the flame of such old styles and the old songs alive.
Wow I am just blown away by how great this is! Edward, if you had been around in the late 60s you'd have become rich and famous in a few years. I saw all the great bands back then. You could have been on the bill with Canned Heat, Butterfield, B.B, so many others. All the best you're the real deal!
Thank you so much, Edward. But once again, if it isn't too much trouble, put all these tracks on Bandcamp. Quite a bunch of us will be very glad to pay for the music you bless us with.
Fantastic compilation! This is now my go-to background track while doing data entry at work. I love the blues and you do these treasured old songs the justice they deserve!
You’re a national treasure. The last of the dying breed. Nothing like old blues in the morning. Thanks.
Thats for sure !😊
People like him can keep it alive!!!!
Young American guitarist here. As long as I live the blues will not die, you have my word.

One of the best blues players I've ever heard. I've listened to a lot of your songs. Really good ,,,.
I guess I'm in love with your guitar man xD
Like Keith Richards supposedly said about Robert Johnson, "...yeah, but who are the other two guys playing with him?"
Edward Phillips you are AWESOME. The history of the blues is still alive and well thanks to guys like you. Nothing better than a man (or woman) singing and playing the guitar with nothing else in-between. Hope you keep doing it till the day you die brother
i want to move next door to this guy so i can come home every damn day and hear him sing.
Been to my Crossroads, and discovered Christ God.

Damn, this guy has a delta soul. Don't make any deal with the devil dude lol
That was one fine hour.
Soundin' real fine, Mr. Phillips. 😄
No sweeter sound, then a slide on an acoustic guitar. That was awesome
This guy is the business. Finger style on 'Mojo Risin' is super quick and in the pocket.
Please forgive my consumerist approach but I'm so glad to have a playlist from him!! The thing will accompany me....
That's a crap load of work man...fok you must have spent years workin on those... what an achievement! No one suddenly plays that well..... Respect man! Very inspiring! Thanks for sharing - what a treat! Your Blues Rocks! Haha! Cheers from Cape Town, South Africa!

Last kind words blues
Dry spell blues

Priceless
A minute in and it already sounds like I'll get an hour back of life lost, too, as other comments say....
