This movie was ASS. The worst in the Disney pantheon. The reason for the conflict was stupid. What they need to make the movie better would have been an outsider of the family to help even things out. The only reason this movie has GENERALLY positive reviews, is because of three things: Disney’s long established credibility, animation, and CATCHY music (even so, the music was annoying).

I really appreciated how there was no twist villain, with the closest thing to an antagonist being Abeula. But even then, she's revealed to have understandable motives behind her actions.

And last summer I have fallen in love with the pixar movie Luca and have watched it more time than any other Pixar movie in less than 6 months. Wally and inside out which has been my favorite picture movies since they first came out had been dethroned.

Personally? I think Encanto deserves a series or sequel. There’s a lot of interesting dilemmas that they could’ve explored with the rest of the Madrigals. Expand on Luisa’s pressure and Isabela’s perfection. What if Camilo had an identity crisis? What if Pepa admitted she was feeling crazy stressed from having to constantly maintain her emotions? Dolores feeling like no one ever listens to her when she has to listen to everyone else?
The movie, for what it was, was great. Touched on themes that were super relatable and its songs grew on me. But I think we need a little more.

I’m autistic and as I was leaving the theater I couldn’t believe how perfect an analogy it was for a neurodiverse person growing up in a neurotypical family! I think it was how everyone in her family felt compelled to tell Mirabel how ‘special’ she was, yet they never took her contributions to the family seriously. Even though she was working super hard to help get the casita ready for Antonio’s party everyone was telling her to stay out of the way and let the more ‘capable’ members of the family handle things.
Best of all her superpower ends up being her empathy. I love this because contrary to outdated stereotypes many autistic people have a type of extreme empathy. We often experience the suffering of others so strongly that just being around heightened emotional situations (or even watching it on TV) can be unbearably painful. This extreme empathy is by far the most difficult part of being on the spectrum for me personally. So seeing it portrayed as a literal superpower was a big deal. (Ok. I cried.)

As a Brooklyn born Latino, who is bilingual in English/Spanish - I actually love that both theaters and streaming services NOW make these Latino theme animation movies available to watch in both English/Spanish for our children, grandchildren and the whole Family.
As Latinos, we are aware that each group is extremely PROUD of their own unique history, food, accent & customs - but when it comes to Family values & heritage we are all quite similar. We didn’t have Latino theme animation movies, when I was growing up - so
    1) I love that we can experience the movie as a family
    2) we can educate non-Latinos about the various PROUD cultures that makeup the diverse Latino Community in & outside of the USA 👏

@@heartroll8719 - Here is some TRIVIA: American movies have been dubbed into other foreign languages, since the beginning of cinema. As such, the standard Spaniard Castellano accent is what was often used.
However, today the industry is sensitive to using the proper Spanish accent associated with the group being represented in the film, so:
      - “Encanto” will be dubbed with a Colombian Spanish accent
      - “Coco” will be dubbed with a Mexican Spanish accent.
The Soundtrack songs are also translated
You can also wait to see when the movie is release for rental or purchase, to see if it’s available in your prefer language of Chinese. I only purchase movies that are also dubbed in Spanish so I can enjoy the experience with my friends & family that are only Spanish speakers. I watched “In the Heights” on HBOMAX the first time in English and the 2nd time in Spanish. It was great on both viewings.
NETFLIX is great at offering Foreign movies in multiple languages like the popular “Squid Game” is
available in Audio dubbed: German, English, Spanish, French, Korean
Subtitles are available in: Chinese, English, Korean
I watch a lot of Foreign Language films and I don’t mind reading subtitles at the theater. However, if I’m at home and the Foreign Film is not available in English, I will select the Spanish, French, Italian or Portuguese dubbed version with English Subtitles. I’ve been translating Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese documents into English for over 30+ years and have visited for work many of these countries, especially the Spanish speaking ones and after a 4 month assignment, of course, I immediately adapt to their accent, so I do not standout.

My favorite things about Encanto: 1. There is a more diverse range of bodies; especially for the female characters. Luisa and Mirabel aren't the typical skinny Disney princess figure which I really appreciate. 2. There isn't a typical villain; though Abuela is the main protagonist, the solution to the conflict comes when we come to understand her and why she acted the way she did. We have sympathy for her and can relate to her, which is a powerful message. 3. All the characters are flawed, which is not very common for Disney movies of the past, but really, really adds to the quality and realism of the story. Honestly this movie beats Frozen for me which is a big deal!

Encanto is by far one of my favourite Disney films. It doesn’t follow traditional trends and patterns. There was no plot twist villian, which makes a difference in my opinion. They initially make it out to be Bruno, I personally got a lot of Scar (from the Lion King) vibes, but we find out he’s got a heart of gold and was trying to protect Mirabel and the family despite him being rejected. I wouldn’t say Abuela is a villain, more an antagonist as she is (sort of) against Mirabel throughout much of the film. Her actions are understandable, and there isn’t necessarily any malice intended towards Mirabel. She just wants the best for her family who she cares about massively, as well as wanting to give back to the community but didn’t realise until the end of the film that she was expecting too much of her family, apologised to Mirabel for letting her down, and said she would change her ways. This film is perfect in so many ways. It’s set in a beautiful location, it’s colourful and the music is the best since Moana. Most importantly, it teaches us that no matter what, your family will always be there

I don't consider it Disney's best. I consider it one of the best movies ever made.
I knew from the start that I was either going to LOVE or HATE this.. I am from the English-speaking Caribbean and spent 6 weeks in Colombia in uni for Spanish and I consider Colombia home. I was already in love with Carlos Vives and Sebastian Yatra. Colombia mi Encanto makes me want to get on a plane or at least pull out the aguardiente. Dos oruguitas though... I have seen the movie 11 times and that song pulled my soul apart and leaves me bawling every single time.
As for representation, I expected my Colombian side to identify, but I was amazed to find a bunch of other little non-mainstream things that I share with the characters as an Afro-Caribeña. Like when Mirabel points at Antonio's present with her mouth or when Camilo does the finger-click in Antonio's room. These are everyday things for me and I don't think I have ever seen them on screen outside of my culture. Made me think that the Caribbean and Latin America are closer than we think.
I also really love that Disney decided to keep Dos Oruguitas and Colombia mi Encanto in Spanish. English-speakers are notoriously unreceptive to other languages. So I am glad the choice paid off and everyone loves the song and it is already nominated for an award. I am glad they went for an all Latinx cast for the English too, and all Colombian for the Spanish. (Although that might be backlash from Raya.) Itfeels autentic to have some of the characters have a little accent. I love the decision not to dub in Castilian Spanish. For once, we get to tell our own story on the world's biggest stage.
All that said, I think that what makes Encanto great overall is how open it is to multiple interpretations. Frozen changed the game, but we were told (and it was obvious) that love was the answer. Encanto wrapped up two months ago and we are still all in different campa about whether Mirabel has a gift, whether she IS the Gift, where the miracle came from, whether Abuelo Pedro Is the House ....
    Encanto is a masterpiece.

I'm 59 years old and have been watching Disney Animated Features since I saw 'The Jungle Book' in theaters in 1967. Suffered through the hit and miss years of 'The Artistocats,' 'Robin Hood,' 'The Rescuers,' 'The Fox and the Hound,' 'The Black Cauldron,' 'The Great Mouse Detective' and 'Oliver & Co.,' before Disney had a major comeback with 'The Little Mermaid' moving them into the limelight again. 'Encanto' has become one of my all time favorites - potentially in my Top Three. It's so good. And I'm not sure why it's not getting more buzz, more viewers and better box office numbers.

I love how a gift can easily feel like a curse:
Bruno: Can become paranoid about things he can see but not control
Pepa: Must always suppress her emotions
Antonio: When the animals have to eat each other and run away to survive, they end up dragging Antonio into their conflict. Antonio has to choose between predator and prey. Whoever he chooses, someone will hold a grudge.

Encanto brings something new, it touches so many true issues in life, it shows realistic conflicts, Disney wasn't afraid this time to open up. This movie is so mature, it's not only for the kids audience but especially to the grown up too. This movie would make you laugh, cry, identify and relate to one or more of the characters. The songs there are Beautiful and addictive as well, in short this movie is a masterpiece.

On reflection, I think the gifts aren't random. Casita bestows gifts that amplify traits that the recipient already had. Antonio already loved animals before he gained the ability to understand them. Isabela was probably always goin to be a bit of a prima donna. Luisa was going to be a physically strong young woman anyway. Pepa is tempestuous. Julieta is nurturing. Camilo in indecisive. Dolores is in everyone's business. Bruno can see some of where things are going.

As a Filipino who has a family struggle of having to have to do something special or having to get a great job it's been hard to communicate with my family especially when my grandparents actually expect alot from us going as far as casting out anyone who has a love interest before finishing collage or even as a fully grown adult dating someone they don't like/think is capable enough to be part of the family(said thing happened to my sister and at some point at my mom). There's also the fact that they are likely to interact with you if you have some sort of talent/focus like:playing a instrument, heavily dedicated to church,a top student. I even had to repeat a grade because I didn't get to the top 3 but-
My point is Encanto has touched my heart where I just feel..seen in a way.
I wish they could just let me do art and accept the change of life and slowly adjust away from the old fashioned way although I can't blame them either. My grandparents living long enough to experience war and had to deal with alot of financial problems in the past so now that they have a more middle class life they're really holding tight on it.

Encanto was perfection. If they ever make an Encanto 2, I’d be in line going to see it. I also loved that it focused on the whole Madrigal family, not just Mirabel or the siblings. The sister rivalry between Isabela and Mirabel also shows things that go on in everyday households. The songs are catchy, but the storyline isn’t perfect, although Encanto is amazing.

This movie couldn’t have come out at a better time for me! I just spent 3 years of intense fighting with my family trying to address the hidden issues no one else wanted to see. After over 30 years of depression, suicide attempts, violent anxiety attacks, and misunderstood ADHD symptoms, I finally got my opportunity to put my foot down 3 years ago. I spent those 3 years fighting with my family who had been convinced that I was developmentally slow, incapable, spoiled and selfish. It took allowing my stepmom to come to my therapy sessions and informing her that none of that is correct and no one has actually listened to the truth; and then letting her (a more respected member of the family) mediate on my behalf to force my stubborn ass family to listen for once! All of that to get the chance to contribute to family dinner conversation on equal terms with my siblings! Equal! With light banter and teasing! That’s all I wanted! To actually be seen as a part of the family and not the family’s burden! So when I saw Encanto, I felt like I had just lived that! I could see myself in each of the characters. I’ve seen it multiple times now and I still can’t get enough!

I was literally just talking to my mom about how this is the first Disney/ Pixar musical I've liked in years! I wasn't a fan of Frozen except for a few songs and I wasn't even a huge fan of Moana tbh. for me its the music thats the main reason why I love it. there were some loose ends that they maybe will finish in a sequel but that was my only complaint. the animation was great, it could've been better like Toy Story 4, but it was still well done and the dancing was very realistic.

His cracks weren't as apparent as the rest of the family, but he still played comforter to his mother when she was panicking, babysitter, family greeter, and fit the family's "entertainer" role. Camilo's family pressures weren't as obvious, but he still gave us pieces of the puzzle that this Perfect Family was breaking under the pressure. Plus he provided some great exposition (if incredibly inaccurate) about why we don't talk about Bruno. 😂

    • @sarahprince2412

@@VidDuality That's why Disney needs to do a sequel or a series and go more in depth with each character. Everyone loves Camilo, Bruno and Dolores the most from what I keep seeing and yet they had so little screentime. Show us their rooms(not talking about Bruno since we've seen his). Show us their issues with dealing with their gifts. Have Camilo and Dolores have their own songs. Have Mirabel interact a whole lot more with her cousins(besides Antonio because he was the most interaction with her). Everyone is saying that her and Camilo should have been the closest since they are the same age even though he is older by a few months. So show us that Disney. That's what everyone is saying and I agree. There's so much that Disney can do to expand on this movie. So hopefully we will see something come out of it.
