Wither On The Vine

- After years of going cap in hand to record labels and begging for money to do this or that and then being beholden to the soul sucking machine that is the music business I've decided enough is enough. My new solo album 'Songs Of Candlelight & Razorblades' is being released, with the help of my manager George Allen, on my own label, Eyes Wide Shut Recordings.
So, in the spirit of self sufficiency and the cottage industry I have become and not wanting or being able to rely on a record label's big bucks for budgets I have made a video for 'Wither On The Vine' that I am rather proud of. Filmed by my wife, Cinthya, on a normal domestic video camera, using just either natural-light or candlelight and with no use of electric light, and edited by myself, it cost absolutely nothing to make except time and imagination and grappling with software hitherto unexplored. All the £££'s that I've spent on videos over the years only to find it is not the arcane art that video directors and editors, and the record business in general, would have you believe and, thumbing my nose at such po-faced conventions as 'always use down-lighting for video, donchaknow', I found it is something instinctual and fun to do without being a big learning curve. Therapeutic almost, zen like. It just goes to show that you don't need the big budgets and the snobbery of so called professionals, anyone can do this stuff these days. Of course it's not an attempt to compete with big budget videos but it is my visual interpretation of the song and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did putting it together.
The same with making music. Imagination and creativity. That's all you need. You don't need big, fancy studios with expensive equipment. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Answerable to no one but myself. That's how I like it. Long live the cottage industry.
Wayne Hussey, Aug. 29th 2014.
Every song, every vídeo...Wayne is better with the time. I dont know what to say. .. his voice make me feel alive, make me believe that dreams can be real. This Song is perfect! Seems like 80's. I Love!!!!!!!
I can imagine this echoing around The Ministry back in the day....Very 'Jerry Lovelock'.....Love it! Nice one Wayne.
Forgot to mention we have just brought into the world a beautiful little angel 16/3/06
a priceless piece of our heaven.. best of all we named her after one of your songs you'd be rather shocked which one.. thanks wayne!
I'm going to sound like a stuck record here but this is a truly beautiful song. The video is perfect - it instinctively accompanies the song. Astonishing and inspirational. I am unsure about the intended meaning of the lyrics but my own interpretation relates to the feelings that sometimes overwhelm one when gripped by middle-age... yet one emerges from that momentary panic bathed in hope. I hope that makes sense :-) Thank you Wayne... so glad to see you back and doing what you do best in the way you want to do it - and thank you to Cinthya for the filming of the video :-)
Brilliant song - and a fantastic video. Well done from one "cottage industrialist" to another. RESPECT !
Very good song. With the essence of the good times. In the same box of the first albums.
Much better than the video clip "Tower of Strength". LOL.
what are you talking about? that video its great
Hi Wayne, I totally agree with you about to do the things all by ourself, this days is the only way...I like so much the melody of the chorus, well and all the song too...say Hi to Cinthya, nice job of both of you.
By the way, I pre-ordered your album.
This is prime example why I think this guy is far to underrated... this is pure evidence that classic music thrives below the belt of commercial crap ROCK ON Jerry!!
Fantastic Video, fantastic sound. Looking forward to see you in Hamburg on Wednesday.
I love it, Wayne.
An incredibly emotionally articulate man, singer and songwriter. I am going to share his TH-cam channel on Facebook, Twitter, more people deserve to appreciate his unique talent.
Nice tune this, good way to promote the album. Looking forward to hearing what else is on the record, sounding like an album for those long cold nights ahead.
I also feel Hussy never quite gets the acclaim,, acknowledgment or respect he deserves, his always writing and recording music and putting his heart and soul into everything he creates and that alone should be applauded.
I concider this song as one of the best songs of 2014.
The real Pearl in my music collection! I got hooked from first time I heard it! Nobody is doing music like this nowdays, and so liitle count of views is really dissapointing. Every line of lyrics is strong and True! Thank you Mr. Hussey for this masterpiece, that will go with me trough all my way
THIS IS A HIT OF THE ARTIST WAYNE HUSSEY. ILOVE THE SONG IS VERY GOOD AND THANKS CIN FOR THE VIDEO.
best wishes, Wayne!
Congratulations, Wayne. The video is atmospheric and professional, matching the music perfectly. The song is simply stunning, and in my opinion is the strongest work that you've done in ages. As a Mission fan of some twenty-three years standing, I found this far superior to the latest Mish offering. I don't have "Songs of Candlelight and Razorblades" yet. It has been ordered, but is being held back for Christmas. I can hardly wait to hear it.
This is brilliant, Wayne! I love it!
Abrazos dese Uruguay y sigan adelante.
Gande Wayne
Excellent song! fine vid.
Love the song and video, looking forward to hearing it later on this month at Leicester. Can't wait............ On your own or with the Mission your No. 1 :)) Brilliant
Very nice Wayne!
Good song, a pleasure to hear, thank you Wayne.
Beautiful
Épico!!!!! A genialidade de um músico de verdade. Parabéns pela postagem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First I thought, unfortunately this is average. But then it grew on me. And about five and a half minutes in I think it's a great song. 2nd time listening to it and I am hooked. Looking foward to see you in the UK on a few dates. And the dance goes on.
Fantastic man , you did not allow the money limit his art and creativity ... this is for just and true artists
Fantastic .
I really like this Wayne, nice one! :-)
Looking forward to seeing you tonight in Cape Town! I've been waiting ages to see your genius live again.
what an excellent song. and I loved your intro to the piece. much respect to you for your talent and dedication and for doing what you love on your own terms. well done. will enjoy exploring more of your current and past work with Mission, Sisters of Mercy, etc... unfamiliar till today when a friend shared some songs with me. cheers!
Blinder of a track Wayne!! - first heard it whilst at the bar at your Malta gig - which was delightful - Steph and I remain thrilled to have met and chatted with you after the show ;)
Love this song and it's swirling guitars - and the video's very cool too - nice one Cinthya! Really hope our paths cross again - truly magical - Lots of Love from Malta!! Jody & Steph xx
It's always great to hear genuinely talented musicians. This is simply stunning, highly infectious music with a video that really caps it off as a magnificent piece of art. Well done Wayne and team - really looking forward to hearing the rest of the album and wishing you well with the pledge campaign.
Love the song and video. Looking foward to the new album and finally seeing you for the first time in Dublin in November!
Oh, God, I desperately need the lyrics to this song!! I still haven't found a national edition of this cd, which probably would come with a booklet. I can understand most of it, but not everything. I loved it!
Video looking good, and it´s a great song as well! Can´t wait for your shows in Sweden!
Amazing song Wayne, as always !!!!!!!!!!
Genius! The best of the best!! Love Ya!!!!!
Wayne your voice is magical, hits the heart, hit nostalgia until I feel what goes through your head emotionally in every song you compose, you're a terrible singer songwriter .... the best
Amazing guitars on this one! Makes me wanna...
Awesome!!!
Bravo Cinthia!
Wow, Killer track !!!
This album really has some stellar moments: Nothing Left Between Us, JK Angel of Death, Devil's Kind and the mesmerizing Aporia. In fact, the only shortcomings on the album were Swan Song (Lament) because we already had it on the Swan Song single, and the re-recorded version of Wasting Away because, well... the original was perfect and you can't do better than perfect.
Hearing this first single and how it has that electronic sound, I was expecting another album like Masque seeing as Masque was pretty much a Hussey solo album in spirit, but SoCaR turned out to be a lot more varied, which is pretty much why I've always loved the Mission/Wayne's work... what other band could write the Crystal Ocean, the majestic That Tears Shall Drown the Wind, the clever Sour Puss, the hypnotic Melt , the raw and powerful Black Cat Bone and then pull off a cover of the garish Mr. Pleasant!?
muchas gracias, ¡que grande eres!
Espectacular!!!
See you in Barcelona!!
Great !
I saw this guy and his band The Mission in Lisbon in 1992.Best concert i ever saw before and since. And i saw hundreds of concerts. The atmosphere breathed in that show was EPIC! Ending with a 10 min long Tower of Strenght version...Damn, those were the days.
Now i see Katy perry, Biebers and s#iT like that making millions without a drop of talent...
maybe it´s me who´s wrong.
Grace Ventura You are correct. Thankfully these guys can still deliver, as well or better than in the 80's/90's. Saw Wayne solo three times this week, very happy to report he is on top form, as always.
dang, how'd this elude me? great track
Congratulations for the video! Great Job!

Dear Mr. Wayne Hussey, please post the lyrics.
Thank you.
From your Brazilian admirer
Here you are the lyrics! :):)
Like the Bordeaux grape I’m getting better with age
A fool to some but to others I’m a wise old sage
There’s dust blowing ‘cross my mind
Like the stars when they’re all aligned
We shout and scream and wail and cry
But in the end, well, we all must die
Please don’t judge me by the colour of my skin
‘Cos the man I am is the man within
Don’t judge me by the length of my hair
Or the clothes or the hat I wear
We wail and cry and shout and scream
But in the end, well, it’s just a dream
Please don’t judge me for who or how I love
For how I choose to worship, for my God above
The tongue I use, for speaking my mind
Or the flag I stand behind
We scream and shout and cry and wail
But in the end, well, it’s heaven or hell
I read their words of spite and scorn (my kingdom is a distant light)
I’ll live by the creed to which I’m sworn (go softly into the night)
And though the sky is ripped and torn
(spread my wings take heavenly flight)
I’ll die the death to which I’m born
But I won’t wither on the vine
Take me in your arms and love me
Love me like I need to be loved
Take me in your arms and love me
Love me like I want, I want, I want to be loved
The sun ain’t shining it’s a spiteful day
Taking a walk down Nostalgia Way
We cry and wail and scream and shout
But in the end, well, what’s it all about?
I read their words of spite and scorn (my kingdom is a distant light)
I’ll live by the creed to which I’m sworn (go softly into the night)
And though the sky is ripped and torn
(spread my wings take heavenly flight)
I’ll die the death to which I’m born
But I won’t wither on the vine
Si se parece en primer acorde de la guitarra . Osea una nota larga, y si claro la batería hace lo mismo q todas las canciones de sisters
I was searching for a son GB of the same title by the pernice brothers. Found this happily by mistake or not..
Maravilhoso, obrigado por fazer parte de minha vida.
This is insane. I need the lyrics.
from breathe me in 2004
Great video, Wayne. well done to you & Cinthya for putting it together. I love it.
Just as a matter of interest, what editing software did you use?
Best Wishes Always
John
Wayne's on record as being a long time Cubase user in the studio.
☺❤
mission
genialllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
Why does This starts just like "MARIAN" from "SISTERS OF MERCY" ?

Great !
wow!
