Got diagnosed with Stage 4, efficiency was about 17% 20 months ago. Modified diet with your books' guidance. EFG is at 25% now. Went to celebrate with a restaurant meal. I could barely finish the meat because it tasted like PORK flavored Salt. Absolutely outrageous amount of salt in restaurants!
John - so very happy to hear this. It sounds like you have truly changed your buds. Its amazing how your tastebuds can adapt and change. Restaurants load their foods with salt to keep customers coming back. You are doing amazing work!!
I was told at the beginning of the year that I have CKD. A few weeks ago they said is was Stage 2. Last week when I asked if I should see a Kidney Dr. I was told that their practice doesn't do that until kidney function starts to decline. My problem is that protein is overflowing into the urine. I have cut back on both meat and plant protein. At the same time I was diagnosed with Peripheral Vascular Disease. I have already had a stent put in my left leg. And had an ablation done on it. Ablation for my right leg is scheduled for September. In March we found out I have osteoarthritis in both my hips. I also have diabetes and high blood pressure. So now I need to eat the following diets: 1. Diabetic 2. Low sodium 3. Heart Healthy 4. Kidney Friendly 5. Arthritis Friendly I 've been trying to find good, up-to-date information on my own. All the experts disagree with each other and give contradictory advice. I have requested referral to a nutritionist but appointment hasn't come through yet. To make everything worse I'm suffering from fatigue and have no desire or energy to cook even though I know how. Even "healthy" frozen meals aren't. Situation has been made worse by getting COVID at the end of March. It took a month before I tested negative at the end of April. Your 5 points are spot on, however.
Jacquelyn - I am really proud of you for staying on top of this. I know this journey can be difficult and finding good healthy food can be daunting (the frozen meals a lot of times can be loaded with sodium). I wish you all the best and hope you can get that appointment soon. A nutritionist can be very helpful in leading you through healthy changes. Stay strong and keep being very proactive in finding answers. You got this.
@@thecookingdoc Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. The good news is that I have lost 25 pounds since January 2023 putting me in the Overweight category instead of the Obese category. I would like to loose 23 more pounds by the end of the year.
Thanks for your guidance. Very helpful. I found a source that states that 28 research studies from 1975 to 2016 found no evidence that high-protein diets cause kidney damage in adults. As you say, the jury is still out.
I am so glad I found you on TH-cam. I am at Stage 5 CKD cause by the excessive proteins from Cancer. I recently change my diet and supplement to fight Inflammation in my body. Once I did that the Cancer Blood Markers went down and they took me off of Chemo Drugs. Now I am concentrating on how to keep my kidneys from getting worse. I have been looking for more ways to eat a more kidney friendly diet. I am looking forward to getting your cookbook.
@thecookingdoc Great video. I believe increasing plant based proteins is not necessary when losing weight. Portion control is best. After all too much protein of any kind is an overload on kidneys.
Just got tested with creatine level of 1.3. Looking more towards prevention, certainly not looking to game the test, but the first available appointment with the kidney specialist is in 6 months. I was probably still a bit dehydrated when I got tested.
I got tested also last December 14,2024 anf my creatinine level 1.3 also and my egfr 67..im on a low protein and low salt diet and mostlybon green leafy veggies and small amount of chicken and fish..i hope i lower my creatinine level and improved my egfr
No one ever mentions ppi's or pain meds. I hve a hiatial hernia hence the ppi's and I take co-dydramol for pain which is worse. I do not diabetes. Scientists hve discovered now that ppi's do cause kidney disease but my GP in the UK has never heard of it. Do u have the Link for the Scientific studies please?
You really have to consult your doctor because not everybody can not eat just plant protein. You also need to maintain weight so you are not malnutrition.
In the last couple of days I have watched three videos of testimonies about how these people went from totally failing kidneys back to normal numbers on the carnivore diet or restrictive KETO with high levels of animal protein. They were able to get off almost all of their meds, and even one, who was on dialysis, was taken off, and his port removed. It is confusing to see the videos saying meat is bad for kidneys and testimonies saying it saved them from getting a kidney transplant. They did put emphasis on getting meat from trusted butchers or meat shops with grass fed or natural sources of feed. I tried the carnivore diet once, and didn't like it at all. I couldn't even stay on the low carb diet for long. So now, to address my 58 number on my blood test, I am on the mono program, simply eating one whole food at a meal. I don't like beef, so eat chicken, fish, eggs and a little dairy. But I cook at home, and don't eat any bad foods. I think my problem came from prescription anti-inflammatories and Ibuprofen, Excedrine, and other OTC pain meds, which I would take one dose a day. But I think over the years, this adds up. I upped my water drinking, too. I have to outlive my kidneys!

hi can i get an example of your diet .... im a transplant patient and still trying to figure out my diet.... your example would be really helpful.
The best thing I've done is find a renal dietician. She explained that we need to eat for our particular needs, shown by lab tests.
I am really glad to hear this Kathlyn. I absolutely agree with them. Thanks so much for sharing.

Why does animal protein put more stress on your kidneys than plant-based protein?
Your question posted 4 months ago and amazingly no one knows.
It’s just harder to filter. From what I’ve been told
My mother kidney creatine level 1.70
is this danger plz tell me sir how to decrease this plzzzz
Thank you sir

What foods to eat after kidney transplant
This is a great idea for a future video. I just made a note of it. Thanks so much!
@thecookingdoc along with maximum grams of protein a meal.

I don't even know what stage..cos the Dr didn't even let us know
Fire your "doctor"! He wants the dialysis premium which is a % of the facilities profit for bringing them another patient. Sad but true.
I have realized soup needs more salt
Can someone with egfr of 28 take magnesium?
Not a word about salad or cabbage?!?!?!?!
