    I use HLG3 with the Leeming LUT. Great combination!
    And thanks for comparing SLOG2 and HLG3.

    All good comments here and this might be the first bad one. After the compression of TH-cam, the artefacts from s-log2 are not visible at all or alternatively, they are the same as on HLG.
    I literally watched 10 more videos which titles says "Best Sony A7III picture profiles" and everybody is telling a different thing which is best. Don't listen all those guys, because you will get more confused... Just go outside and test it for yourself, please!

    this video is the best video on TH-cam that explains the real differences between S-log2 and HLG3, I just have a question is that really both of them have the same dynamic range?

    • @rynonortje
      @rynonortje  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ran a test earlier this week and it looks to me that S-log2 has the better dynamic range.

      @@rynonortje so which one do you recommend me to choose for the sony A73 camera for real estate video S-log2 or HLG3?

    • @rynonortje
      @rynonortje  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@firesmaug3214 I shoot a lot of real estate and have done a lot of testing. HLG3 is the one for me, its a lot more versatile. The S-Log2 falls apart in anything other than ideal lighting conditions.

      @@rynonortje thank you so much, I'm just worry and confused about something, Is there a limited lifespan of a camera sensor and the number of photos and videos can produce before it start getting tired or decrease the quality of the content? and if it is then how many photo or video the Sony a73 can take before it die?
      and secondly is it really that videos hurt the camera sensor more badly than photo and can reduce its lifespan? because I heard that when you take video you're exposing your camera senor to pick up more dust which is (the greatest enemy of sensor) more than photos because the shutter speed take longer time than photos to shut down especially for mirrorless camera like sony?

    • @mr.bugbyte
      @mr.bugbyte 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can assure you that your camera wont die just because you filmed something with it. In a mirrorless camera the sensor is always "open", no matter if you're taking pictures or videos. The only damage that can occur is a mechanical damage, like the shutter not closing and opening anymore, but on mirrorless cameras the shutter is electronic (this is why you have a silent mode for shooting photos) so even if it broke you could still theoretically work with you camera. I have cleaned my sensor just today because there was dust on it, no big deal. I know it can be scary but cameras are a durable piece of tech. I have filmed with sand, dirt, water etc. I have had water on my lens and all that stuff, don't worry about it. If you can avoid dust and water it's better, but don't stress about it if you get some on your lens or sensor

    The problem I have with slog 2 is the amount of noise once I start grading partially because of that 800iso minimum. Hlg3 and Cine4 works best for me.

      Unfortunately with S-Log2, some degree of noise reduction will always be necessary in post, whether that's by using a noise reduction tool or by creative use of curves.
      Just last night I shot a test video in my dark apartment with a single LED lamp on and ended up with a lot of noise at 0dB. In post, a little bit of pulling back on the shadows and s slight upward curve on the deep shadows and it was all but gone.

    Nice comparision. I exactly found the same issues. Could resolve them with slight chroma noise reduction on slog2, bending in skies is still there unfortunatelly. Which HLG3 color space do you use? Rec709 or BT2020? What do you prefer and why? Cheers!

    You mention highlight handling, and rolloff...you don't mention your KNEE settings for HLG3. KNEE setttings can have a dramatic affect on the highlights of HLG. I am not sure if Slog allows for any sort of knee, if not, this could be the difference you see in highlights, the HLG default knee allowing highlights to blow out more?
