I love this song. I think it’s because my 84 year old mother played it when I was a kid. It’s strange because I feel uplifted and sad at the same time. Unique and a personal treasure.
@B R haha cool thanks man another one I feel strongly about is "lips of an angel" I will legitimately be standing in the store and will freeze for that one XD
I was conceived when this song was #1 on the billboard 100 in 1973. 9 months later. A baby boy was welcomed in sunny Southern California. I'm good with numbers.
Got to admit, even for a Chinese guy like me, we listened to this when I grew up back in 1992 in primary school...such an amazing melody that I finally find it!!!!! LOVE IT!!!
For those wondering, the musicians are lead and backing vocalist-drummer Karen Carpenter, lead guitarist Tony Peluso, guitarist Louie Shelton, steel guitarist Red Rhodes, bassist Joe Osborn, drummer Hal Blaine, keyboardist-backing vocalist Richard Carpenter, bassoon player Norman Herzberg, bass flutist Tim Weisberg, oboe and English horn player Earl Dumler, and tenor saxophonist-flutist-alto flutist Bob Messenger.
One may be crazy for hip-hop, rap, trance, hard rock or whatever genre of music one may think of... yet, i wouldn't consider him a real and pure fan of music if he can not sit back, listen to this song and smile... We have been shelled with so many things since the time of the carpenters, but still, when the word "music" comes in my mind, their songs - this one above all- is the first thing i think of... Beautiful, mainstream music for all humans, classical and evergreen... Thank you!
She's always been my favorite female singer of all time....such a rich voice, ...I would've loved to find the guy that told her she was fat and shut his mouth for him, he robbed us of a precious treasure!
Silk and warm butter are jealous of the smoothness of this voice! This was my happiness song when I was a little boy and my mom had the radio on. Uh oh...getting teary.

Probably THE greatest duo group EVER. Both were extremely talented in their own manner. What made this recording so damn good was of course the talents of The Carpenters; BUT it would be cruel not to mention that THE world's greatest steel guitar player; Buddy Emmons was asked by genius Richard Carpenter to be on this recording; and he graciously obliged. Together, the three of them made a tremendous hit of all times. May Jesus rest the souls of Karen and Buddy.
This song is one of the reasons I have the idea of love I do. My dad used to sing this to my mom all the time. This and Danny's song. I'm not much of a country person, but I hear these songs and they touch the heart. I love you Mom and Dad! Thank you for giving me these gifts!
It's funny because I'm a serious guy, into politics fighting against injustice yet this makes me smile. It really is a wonderful and uplifting song. Thanks' Carpenters.
My mom had a very good singing voice and this song was all over the radio when I was 3 years old, she would sing this to me at bedtime. Every time I hear this, I'm instantly transported back, snuggled up in bed, and knowing everything is right with the world.
wonderful voice. lyrics are sweet as honey, can really make another mans see through another mans eyes.. This people really had spirit in their song, makes me breathe with air.. Roses to them :)
They are talking about the love of god that's why this song makes you feel happiness. His love puts us on top of the world 😄. Praise god. have a blessed day brothers n sisters
NIOBE TOVAR Well good luck with that music program, NIOBE. They chose a beautiful and classic song from the legendary Carpenters..that is sister and brother duo Karen and Richard Carpenter. The two had many great and lovely songs in the years from 1970 through 1983, when Karen passed away, oh so young at the age of 32. She had a voice like an angel. This particular classic, "Top Of The World," I consider my very, very favorite from them. "Top Of The World" was the fourth single released from the Carpenters June of 1972 A&M Records fourth studio album release entitled A SONG FOR YOU. The words and music are by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis. It was arranged and orchestrated by Richard Carpenter. It was produced by Richard & Karen Carpenter and Jack Daugherty. The single was A&M Records AM-1468-S TOP OF THE WORLD---Carpenters #1 [2 weeks] on the United States of America BILLBOARD magazine 'Hot 100' chart. #1 on the Canadian RPM magazine 'Singles' chart. #2 on the United States of America BILLBOARD magazine 'Easy Listening' chart. circa October-November-December 1973--January-February 1974. :-)
If i had to choose a song to remain for the rest of my life it would be this. I cannot explain the feeling i get everytime i listen to this but this is my happy song 😊
I picture myself looking at azure blue skies with puffy clouds, trees swaying as the cool breeze lifting my hair lingering in mid-air. I look upon green pastures as a small lake beside me showing a reflection of myself. Sitting down resting on a tree not far away from a small town with cheerful men and women. Simply paradise.
Very refreshing song....and makes me envious of those who lived in those good goody good ole days....I'm a late 80s baby ,and a 90s kid.I have a fascination with the 1970s.😂🙂😊😊😊🤗😍😍😍
I am one of the few who still remembers Karen singing all these songs. Such great songs and such a smooth silky voice. Takes me back to many years ago. Always loved her music and always will.
Very beautiful! I'm from Brazil (Brasil for me) and The Carpenters are fantastics for me! God bless you for post them in TH-cam! They touch my heart as nobody else can do it. At this moment, I'm really feeling at the Top of The World listening to them and reading the pure lyrics. I love it!
I, particularly, love all the musics of this duo. Karen Carpenter was for me the most beautiful female voice in the world, R.I.P. Karen, God bless you...
This song brings back so much memories. Even though I was born in the 90's, my mom would play this really loudly in the house and I'd just dance to it. The nostalgic feeling is just so precious.
I first heard this song In Friends sitcom, in the episode "the one with the blackout". Joe, Monica and Pheobe were singing it while the cat was attacking Ross on the balcony.
I have this desire to walk right up to Karen Carpenter, gently putting my hands on her shoulders, looking longingly into those warm loving eyes of hers, and just asking her to say or sing anything to me...and as she does, I imagine just crying and crying and crying, not in sadness but in utter relief, a deep joy that knows no bounds....just listening to that Golden Throat of hers, would instantly catapult me into Heaven itself. I would be on Top of the World, looking down on creation.
I first heard the Vietnamese version of this song and I loved it. I didn't understand the lyrics at all but something about it made me happy inside, and now that I've heard this original English version, I think this will brighten my mood up even more no matter how I'm feeling.

This song is too good to be this short 😭 this needs an extended version
I taught my grandaughter to sing. The day I heard her scream I knew she would be a singer..
Anyone else LOVE The Carpenters' songs, and they came here because they listened to this as a kid?
+The Flash's Fury well i was an adult when they hit, such a magical voice, sad that she was told she was fat, led to her illness
