Been meaning to upgrade this for some time, enjoy this one, an absolute classic and one of my favorite sets from the era, the 20+ minute ACDC bag is legendary status.

Trey is trying to tell Mike and Page at 52:49 they're gonna do Frankenstein, and due to the noise they can't hear him, so Trey does his best "Frankenstein" impression to relay the message.

If you read the book then you know that Frankenstein wasn't the monster. If you understand the book then you realize that Frankenstein WAS the monster...
Although the song is named after the fact that it was stitched together from different tapes, so the band that wrote it definitely didn't read the book OR understand it. Or they just didn't give a fuck and needed a name for the song. Probably mostly that last part lol
22 years later and still one of the best Phish experience of my life. Drove from Colorado only show that year but so impressed from 95 Boise decided to go again good choice...
What makes Trey my favorite guitar player ever is the juxtaposition between how he plays in gumbo then DWD. Pure groove and patience into straight melt your face off shredding. No one else does that
Whatever creative subconcious he was tapping into was feeding him the dopest guitar hero lines ever.
This is some of my all time favorite Phish right here. iTunes tells me that this AC/DC Bag is my most played track...ever.

I did the 5 show run from British Columbia, and this show was worth the 5 hour drive from Bend Oregon. My buddy and I practally had a whole section to ourselves down in the 100's section. People chose to skip this show and head down to San Francisco from the Portland show. This second set is one for the books. Also Trey is playing on the right side of the stage, now Trey is on the left and Mike on the right.
Back to this show tho, the "another on bites the dust" teases were out of left field.
In Portland the first set where Phish first played Trey band stuff playing "Mozambique".
The Portland and Boise show was a hint of what i think was to come for phish longer jams, adding some of Trey band tunes to thier catalog another attempt to raising the stakes.

I grew up in Boise, this was amazing. My 2nd show. The first one was at Wolf Mountain by park city Utah. Double rainbow perfectly over the stage and fish busted out the vacuum for Somewhere over the Rainbow
Loops of destruction days there. 😂 Saw a good few of these show leading up to Cypress. What a year.
There was just an electricity 🔌 ⚡ to the shows back then. A garage rock feel where one of Trey's licks could just send you off into excitement-ville. And it seems like the songs told more stories, which I appreciate. Felt like we were part of something. Ya know?!
I think it was a matter of "youth". I must admit I miss it.

My first shows were Sandstone then Minneapolis 99. Best phish era ever.
No suprise, as they were gearing up for Big Cypress. The pinnacle of phish.
The release at 20:10, complete with Tortilla war during the Bag.....bliss.

I was living in Alaska at the time. However I saw them earlier in July 1999 at Volney, NY (Oswego)...about a week before Woodstock 99...then I drove back to Alaska in August so I missed this gig.

The jam has it all. The one funny or weird part is that you’d think Trey would be all animated???!!! But he’s in ZONE! We all know now that he was on cloud ???? and laced to the max on all sorts of goods, but just wow!!!

I know it’s 3 years after you asked, but since no one replied, I’ll give it a go. There are a few subtle variations on the specific voicings (depending on things like which strings he’s accenting when strumming), but I’m hearing some Am9 (xx7557), a bit of Am6 (xx757[7]) or Am6/9 (if he hits the high E string). There’s a little more going on, but more or less he’s embellishing an Am (xx7555) with some of the more colorful note choices from the A Dorian mode. Hope that helps!
