- In this tutorial, I'll show you how to convert an AVI file into MP4. Unfortunately, after effects doesn't have an option to render to MP4 directly. Officially, Adobe recommends using Adobe Media Encoder. Luckily, there is another program which comes absolutely for free that you could use to convert the .avi into .mp4 efficiently. Hence, in this video, I'll demonstrate the workflow from after effects into handbrake and therefore mp4. MP4 files are more portable files that you can use in iPhone, iPad, as well as they take considerable less space on your hard disk as compare to after effects AVI files.

Handbrake uses some of the resources from Microsoft Framework which is totally normal for a software. you're a life saver!! I was working day and night on after effects while learning it at the same time, then when it was time to export I did not have a clue since I didnt have AME, and the avi and move was too large! I was thinking of giving up my project and accept my fate lol. This came in clutch, I can now sleep in peace , thank you so much!

Great Explanation! But it exports in M4v, you could also tell just to rename it to mp4.
You're most welcome! M4V and MP4 are almost the same. If you would look at 1:38, I've saved it as MP4 format. I know later it shows the file type as M4V. M4V = MP4 plus optional protection. If you have problem playing M4V, please let me know?
