Your take on Shaman is interesting. Usually people place them last on their Cata healer preference but I always found them to be really fun and effective at the same time so it baffles me that people don't go for them. Sure, you don't have absorbs and Pallies (with Holy Power being a thing in Cata) probably have better longevity but you can still pump a lot of healing. I guess people are always trying to minmax-pigeonhole healer roles and it's that "jack of all trades, master of none" situation that doesn't qualify them as the "best" healer at any specific task. Plus, Elemental is probably one of the most fun dps specs, albeit a bit rng-ish. Overall, sounds like a top class choice to me.
Also people surely remember early tiers rsham which was horrendous. First impressions last, especially bad ones
cuz their offspec is great and most raids will have them as a flex.

they are really fun and can be effective, its just in a 10m setting, where people will often only have 2 healers, you just cant compete with a paladin for single target healing, and then they lack a raid cooldown so they cant even compete with priest or druid. like 100% you can clear the hardest content with them, its just easier with other combos of healers.
Believe it or not, Disc goes from the most boring healers in Wrath to an absolute joy to play in Cata. In case anyone watching has never tried it, it's actually fun.
Yeah definatley you have the option of two different healing styles, shields and atonement so you can play heavily towards wrath healing or this new style :)
Still most boring speck, by far.

I disagree. I play all heal specs in Wrath - Disc is by far the most fun to me.

From original Cata experience at max content...Atonement Disc + Resto Shaman in 10m is just crazy good.

I would also love to hear a bit more about this combo. I’m narrowing down my healing main and resto shaman’s “con” list currently has “not great for 10 mans” so I’d love to be proven wrong.

Best combo is Atonement Disc plus Resto druid w/ mage for TW..
hpal was best in cata as well. I think a lot of wrath holy pals will change classes. You can't just spam holy light and never run out of mana. Also Flash of light in cata is much more healing intensive. I think a lot of people will get turned off by the new way of healing in cata. Especially in the beginning when healing feels super weak. Also curious why you dont have your raid frames closer to your character... Less eye movement.
Mainly because i rarely heal, and when i do its a Rsham who just Healing Rains and afk :P

I completely agree with everything you said, but do have a slightly different take when it comes to shamans. In my opinion, spirit link totem is just on another level, and it alone makes a well played shaman invaluable, and a perfect partner with a holy paladin in a 10 man stetting. Disc is pretty much almost as good, but that damn spirit link man… too good.
If you use and abuse spirit link its rediculously overpowered, but i see so many groups not use it correctly!
pallies: tbc they were kaio-ken, wrath they were super saiyan, in cata they get bumped up to like super saiyan blue. as far as a resto sham goes, you can spam your big heals all you want as, you can refill your mana with a few lightning bolts. a resto shammy should never go oom unless they are really really bad.

Feel like Holy Priest would be a must in a 25man. The Divine Hymn healing is absolutely insane if not the best healing CD in the game, also give out good manage cd, tank cd, grips etc and can do some insane healing especially if people have braincells to click Lightwell.

Blood lust is huge deal towards the end of the raid content with chain heals. Dics priest is a most for anything.

I have a question for any who knows Disc. I absolutely love the pre shielding in Wrath. I love spamming the button and being top on the meter. You mentioned that they still play an absorb based build. Is the playstyle still similar to Wrath as in: You must have knowledge of WHEN damage will come in, and shielding a large group of players will spike your HPS if you do it properly. The atonement build looks very boring, but I really enjoy the inner-workings of how WOTLK played hoping its still around now. Also I noticed when I tried disc on a Pserver, PW:S was only 15 seconds. Does that introduce any awkwardness / clunkiness to ther spec overall? Less PW:S duration basically means less pre-shielding a big damage amp which sounds kinda lame.
Its absolutley a thing but with some changes - PW:S is a little more costly and as you mentioned the duration, so a well timed ramp will get PW:S on 10 players, perfect in a 10 man raid team, in a 25 man raid team theres actually a reason to bring 2 disc priests. HOWEVER, unfortunatley becuase of fight length this can be very very mana intensive, and you will have to have a healer that can take over inbetween ramps to allow you to regen.
PWS (all healing spells, but PWS especially) cost significantly more in Cata than in Wrath. If you mindlessly spam shields in Cataclysm, you will be oom in under 30 seconds in a 25 man raid. There are no more 1-button healers in Cataclysm. "Knowing when damage is coming out" is significantly easier than correctly iterating an Atonement rotation that correctly makes use of Archangel, but then again if the reason you don't like Atonement is because it's more demanding than Wrath Disc, there isn't really an alternative with -any- Cata healing spec, since all of them are significantly more complex than their Wrath versions.
Not saying that's why you don't like Atonement btw; plenty of healers hate the idea of doing damage as a healing class, and while that's -objectively- suboptimal play, you're playing a game to have fun so as long as your group is fine with dead healing globals instead of useful offensive globals and you're having fun, you're good.
TLDR: Disc is still a proactive healer that rewards fight knowledge. The Atonement build rewards fight knowledge even more than the non-DPS build due to how Archangel windows work. There is no one-button build for any healing class and you can not spam PWS no matter your build. PWS is not your only source of shields, since PoH automatically shields an entire group and you'll be using it with Inner Focus every time it's up.
You dont focus as much on shielding, mastery is shit for disc and u wanna gear haste/crit and just efficiently smite away as long as heavy healing isnt needed.
Disc was really bad on some cata private servers due to custom raid difficulty buffs that affected their throughput, so much that People preferred holy just for divine hymn on certain hc mechanics
Just say at it is, you like to do zero work and be top of the meters. Disc priests are actually shit even in wotlk. They can do nothing to contribute to a recovery if something unplanned happens , just high useless Numbers. Play holy priest and do it well, youll be respected and people Will remember your name

These kinds of guides have a lot less value after WotLK. Starting with Cata and going forward, any healer can do any role totally fine.
100%, but different healers do still hold different roles and skill levels in raids.
holy paladin is buffed since forever because they have 4.3 ability "holy radiance" even tho you play 4.0.6 content. Resto shamy got nerfed from 400% mana tide to 200% mana tide and so on

I would 100% carry a Resto Shaman in a 10m and at least 2 in 25 man. If you don't know how to cheese mechanics with Spirit Link Totem then, well...I'm not sure what to tell you.

Holy paladins definitely the best healer. best single target, incredible aoe, and tons of utility. holy priest definitely pumps a lot of HPS and are a good addition to any comp. disc can cheese on some fights like alakir and halfus, but shielding isnt really necessary since cata buffs health pools. its more for the atonement dps and giving PI to your horny mages. sadly, both restos are fitted to being better as the 3rd healer, instead of one of the main 2. shaman cant tank heal like a paladin nor can it pump aoe like a priest, but its a good mix. druid can absolutely do swell tank healing, and a lot of HPS, but they dont have anything to really save people with. if they gotta spam regrowth on you then they fall behind in rejuvs. theyre kind of selfish in a sense.
IMO best healing specs for cata are Atonement Pr, Resto Druid, and Holy Paladin.. Rest are crap.. Honorable mention is resto shaman.. Holy pr is worst

Rdruid is very strong in Cata, we even ran Rdruid / Disc in 10 man for a while
