I bought an unlocked V20 with intent of upgrading from my 2016 LG Aristo. After one week, refiled the V20 as a "nightstand only" mini tablet as once unplugged you can just watch the battery life plummet in real time. As for upgrading for real, went from Aristo '16 to V35 no regrets
The video quality in the v50 is better than the v40. That to me is a big difference. The V40 still has the G7 autofocus problem. Also, Image quality in low light is better on the V50.
I am having both, speed, camera, operation no big difference, but v50 has bigger battery and 5G, if you are not using the 5g, v40 is still good, depending on the price difference.
There's a few Korean unlocked versions on Ebay for reasonable $300-350. Main concern is instead of unlocking, it would need phone wiz to manually (soft)drill and root settings to adjust from KOREAN interface to GLOBAL interface. If you're like me and want attention to detail, would also appreciate a phone rooter to swap the boot-up/shutdown MP4s from Korean to T-Mobile, and maybe swap the default ringtone to T-Mobile as well. If a Korean based seller offers to root into global mode for a small extra $20 fee, might be worth it.

You can find the v50 unlocked and in like new condition for $250-270 on ebay. V40 $180-200. The v40 is a bigger upgrade from v30 than the v50 is from the v40. You won't be disappointed with either, but get v50 if you want bigger battery and newer processor.
Yeah I got v50 but not the price the other guy commented. Verizon phones are more expensive. Only big con the phone notch/gap on the screen. It's sticks out like a sore thumb.
@@mike_t_007 the V35 and V40 have the same battery size. But because the V40 screen is bigger, it'll tend to die about 40 to 45 minutes faster than the V35. Depends on usage and your phone settings like brightness etc. And how new the battery is. I use the V35 more than my V40. Love both tho. But I tend to steer more towards the V35 for its wider form factor and less tall and slim form factor like the V40 has. And no notch. But the V35 speaker (although loud) can sound tiny or barely no bass. But you can go into sound settings and tweak it better.

@@mike_t_007 honestly, when I go into the deveolper options and die down the animation scales for both, the V35 seems to be faster. I find myself flying a bit faster on the V35 than the V40. Not by too much as sometimes the V40 can seem fast but the animation speeds on the V35 are more consistent. I have to add tho that I have the unlocked amazon prime alexa V35. Its the factory truly unlocked version non carrier version but there are pre installed amazon apps on it. But you can disable them. Looks like a an unlocked model. No boot up logos or power off logos. Model of phone is LM-V350ULM.

Hello, i have a wonderful red LG V40 (3300 mah battery). It's very great phone, and the battery life is always good, over 1 day of use. But, LG V50 is little better..because the battery is bigger (4000 mah), 2 days with a normal use. Sorry bro, but my english is very bad..i'm italian boy :) I love LG phones
The V40 battery life is better than many top phones from same year of release. There's comparison test here on youtube that showed that that V40 came in 2nd best amongst a test of several top branded phones. A lot of the criticism in the various TH-cam reviews are unfounded. Part of the problem is there are some LG -specific settings that reduce battery life that you need to turn off/ deactivate. There's TH-cam vids that can help with this. My V40 also gets me through the day unless I watch TH-cam or game nonstop.

I just upgraded from the v20 to the v50 but the selfie quality is horrible. It's super blurry and has focus issues.
