I started bee keeping three years ago and made a virtually identical one to your deluxe version as soon as I started, the only difference being, left a gap below nostral level to stop steaming up, that was the only difference. Also allows the user to blow on bees when inspecting. Used thinner velcro strips so vision was better. Used old stock PPE visors bought on ebay. They work very well though you have to be careful though as the cheap visor material scratches easily. Being BB, I'm sure these ones will be supplied with better anti scratch material. As for steaming up, anti-fogging glasses spray works well or failing that wiping soap over screen works. Hope they also use anti-glare material as this was the only other slight problem encountered. Your nose can on occasion touch the visor and leave a smear mark so it is worth carrying a soft cloth around with you to clean it at end of session. Can see the oblong visor is not full width so will restrict vision, Having made one full width willbe better if it goes right to the edges. They are already selling versions of these in America. Believe these have been introduced in the last year.
Appreciate the thought that's gone into the panel Lawrence, but I don't think the mesh is the problem on visibility. On a "fencing" veil, it's the ribs falling across your eyeliner that is the problem, and for me, it's Swienty that have addressed that with the "Breeze" veil.
My first thought was it will steam up. Glad you presented that concern. A bifocal set up would be interesting. The top 4/5 are regular vision. The bottom 1/5 is magnified to easily see what’s going on in those cells. Maybe gives a headache to some, but just a thought
And I tought for a minute that you've come across the alien technology where you create an invisible shield around yourself where no bees can enter. Maybe next year! ANYWAY..I've already experimented with this concept 2 years ago but I could not find clear material that would not distort the vision and is sewable onto the bee hat itself. So my hat goes off to BBware for coming up with the concept of velcroing it onto the hat(inside or outside). And I guess, since it is velcroed on, the material must be a clear-thin-perpex or similar. I believe the condensation issue can be easily overcome with variety of sprays available on the market and even rubbing a toothpaste then cleaning it off could solve the problem. Chris Fixit (a car mechanic) has done an episode on his very popular TH-cam channel on this very topic. Worth checking it out.
Thanks for your comment! It took a while to find the perfect solution, still a little tricky as we cant cut the hold for the screen in the face veil in bulk but its come together nicely and we are really happy with it. With the condensation, I dont think you would even need a spray. Its only when its really cold that it would happen, and of course you dont want to be going in to the hive for too long when its that cold 🥶
@@BBwear Sorry I spelled your company name wrong! :) You are very welcome. I agree but when you are lifting heavy supers even in the middle of summer, all that heavy breathing will most probably cause some degree of condensation but that is debate we have to have after a trial period of at least 12 months. What about it Lawrence? :) 🙏🏼
Ha this was great we have the easy see here in the us but u have to buy the easy see and install it your self. and it is 40.00 that is a lot hoping 1 day that the people who makes bee suits will soon make suits with the window in them already Larance hope u have a blessed week.
I'm used same solution but i diy it couple years ago. Condensation is a little problem, but you can think different and keep your bees in the plastic bottle. This is call a "бутылочное пчеловодство" aka beekeeping in a plastic bottles, find it!
So I bought one of these having seen this video, The screen does drop down, badly, it pulls the veil forward, and the only way to keep it clear is to not breathe. Any condensation makes it impossible to do an inspection and I had to abandon mine and go back to my old hood. It may be a good idea in countries with warmer weather, but we are in May and its still only just above 10'C in the north of the UK. Going to see if BBWear will refund this, over £100 hood. Worth a try though :-). you sure you didn't get paid for this one Lawrence :-) haha
Oh dear. Sorry to hear that Stefan! I'd never recommend anything that I didnt think was a good product and I certainly never receive any remuneration (I wish). I've been really happy with mine but cant use it for videos at the glare from the sun means you cant see my face :( Definitely worth speaking to BB. Good company with good customer service
@@BlackMountainHoney A magnifying glass on a suction cup would probably do the job. There are clip on eye glass magnifiers which you could probably clip to the front bone. But the screen alone will help no end with the extra light coming in, as well of course as the unobstructed view
Here’s my top tip. (Hard to explain) but I roll the middle rib in my hood around and back again (think similar to rolling up your sleeves) this then holds my mesh veil closer to my face (not quite on my nose to be stung but nice and close) this gives me a good view into the comb for eggs (and I wear glasses). Alternatively use a bull dog clip on the back of your hood. Can you touch the screen with propolis fingers and then touch the mesh with propolis fingers. I think there will be noticeable difference.
Many thanks, we have worked hard to make it right and make it well like we do everything we make. We think it is going to change inspections for the better that is for sure.
See drumcdoo comments directly above. It is a lot of work to make your own version. By the time you have bought, stitched and glued materials together you will realise it is much easier to purchase one that has all the hard work done. Like Laurence says, can soon see these becoming much more popular, especially for those wearing glasses...
Not sure how that is happening, but yes even if the face panel gets too close to the face they cant sting through the polycarbonate screen that is for sure!
@@BBwear only goofing around b/c Laurence used to film a lot of discussions without his bee suit on but now he will be able to wear your veil while talking into the camera = )
@@BeesNTrees47 Ah my apologies - I misread it like you were being stung in the face, its been a very long day getting everything ready to launch the product. I clearly need to get some sleep! I see what you mean! haha! Laurence certainly wont be getting stung in the face any more either, no need to be stood in the apiary without a veil anymore.
We saw this video, but of course his is glued, and the glue would degrade in the wash or when wet, and its also not replaceable. We tried to make this something that is easy to wash as our standard fencing hood - just remove the screen when the hood is in the wash. And easily replaceable if it ever becomes damaged, with the replacement being more than affordable.
Just checked out the BBW site, didn’t expect it to be as much as £105! I know there is the R&D cost and smaller production runs but higher than I imagined.
HI Rob, Thanks for your order, we really appreciate it and will work hard to get it out to you ASAP and look forward to your feedback. We have made it as cheap as we possibly can. Unfortunately the hoods take so long to put together as there is a lot of fiddly jobs to do to get them made - the suit part, though it takes a long time, is relatively easy. Its the ultra fabric which makes it particularly expensive - but it is so worth it
I bought the ultra range suit used for one season got stung through suit twice shoulder and back . The 2 zips on ankles broke and also stitching of zip came away from suit on two areas plus the elastics both broke on bottom of two legs..very very disappointed since it cost me over 500 all in to Ireland
Hi@@deecull8750I have sent you an email. This damage you mention is unheard of, especially after only 1 year. But we do have a warranty repair for parts and labour which would cover all of the issues you mention. And being a warranty repair we would cover the costs all the way from you to the uk and back to you in Ireland. There would be no import costs this time either as the invoice would be £0.00 as a warranty repair. I look forward to hearing from you and getting this sorted for you as a priority.
My pleasure@@henrycheese4138 thanks for your order, we will get that out to you just as soon as we can. I know we have them with our machinists so hopefully we will have one in the colour you ordered this week to get that out to you.
Hi Robert, it wouldnt be £505 - the TruView is only £20 more than the standard hood - The ultra comes with a standard hood for the £399.99 so for an Ultra with a TruView hood is would be £419.99. Also we do the hood in the poly cotton as well so you dont have to have an ultra to get the benefit of the Truview, a polycotton basic suit with a TruView hood is £209.99, or a deluxe would be £244.99. I appreciate our prices arent the cheapest, but you get a genuine UK made suit that will last you 15+ years if well looked after, along with great cutsomer service and after service (repairs which help to prolong the life of the suit).

So for those who don't have issues with a normal veil, this is an unnecessary expense, yes?
If you have no issues with a normal veil, then it's not needed. You'd be amazed (as was I) quite how many people do have issues with the veils though
