    I can see they're all brand new hives are you going to take them back to the allotment afterwards. I had to do the same thing
    I got a phone call a new beekeeper keeping bees in allotment had a letter from the Council to remove his bees they were stinging everybody I agreed to requeen then for him and he would have them back. I brought them back home well they were like African killer bees I'm an experienced beekeeper but I had to run from these.

    I have some bees (calm! ish) on my mates allotment. Although an extra cost I put 4 x harris fencing in a square with scaffold netting around the fencing with one corner moveable/open for an entrance. Works really well. That makes the bees fly up and away and not directly flying over other allotments. Additionally, it protects from wind and with the winds we had this year the fence did not move and not a hive blown over. I have also put a lock on the fencing so no one can get in except me. I have to say I dislike going through my bees when there is people around but the compound seems to help. Supers on and I'm currently doing swarm prevention because they are preparing to go. They do so well there. They always go 1 May guaranteed!

      Hi there, thanks for sharing, can you please tell me how big the allotment is and how many hives you have? Just want to see what the minimum space needed for the bees to get a nice flight path assuming the hive entrance is some distance from the fence? Thanks heaps

    You can't have emergency cells and swarm cells in the same hive, 😜
    They're either emergency or swarm cells, the position doesn't matter 🙃

    I’ve got bees on my allotment and the local Beekeeper has seven hives on his allotment. Mine were angry last year. I re queened and they have been lovely since. However we have LOADS of room like five acres of land. Otherwise it would be unsustainable on the allotment.

    Hi Laurence, cool 4 nice sized colonies with exellent equipment as you said mate just drop your F1 buckfast queens and hopefully they should take the nastiness out of these bees I can’t wait to see how you get on, I have one colony similar in temperament at my work yard apiary which will definitely be getting a new queen soon. Thx mate another good vlog from ya .

    My bees can be a little testy... but it's usually a handful that get riled up and keep charging at the veil. Those were berserker bees. Hopefully the new queens should chill their mood.

    That was a brilliant and very educational video, thanks so much. Such healthy and vigorous bees, hope the old owner can find a more suitable site as he/she has obviously spent time ,managing them and money on good equipment and is I am sure missing them. Do you think some may have already swarmed? Thanks

      Thanks Peter. I have come to the conclusion all the queens were killed but one had already started swarm preps. It was sad to see how much love and care had gone into them so ive promised to a do a few videos on them and give them a nice home.

    My bees are building emergency cells like you said 90 degrees but they are shallow and I didn't see it being charged or sealed....They did that September than October/November last year and 2 weeks ago.. Not sure why she is good laying queen.

    Aaah those extra fiesty colonies! Had one the other day, been working all day with only my bee jacket and gloves, until the last site and the last hive. Twothirds in they all of a sudden had enough and they turned suddenly. With 30 seconds i had 8 stings through my trousers. Had to walk off and put my bee overall on, over my jacket 🤣
    Had to drive away with the car after i closed the hive up and get far enough away before i could remove my beesuit. Luckily they weren't agressive when just watching the hive before opening so no danger for bystanders but they will get a new queen nonetheless 😊

    Why are they making worker brood in the supers? 🤔

  • @JM-nd4kt
    @JM-nd4kt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The queens genitic material decides if the bees are aggressive or not it has no bearing if they are made queenless or not. If you requeen an aggressive hive it can take at least a month for the bees to behave better. This is because the old workers from the bad queen are still alive and carry the defensive traits that came from the mother.

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've experienced bees that have been perfectly placid when queenright, then when a split is made and they are queenless, they immediately go on the defensive and their temperament becomes much worse.
      I always say to for people to wait until the following year to assess temperament post requeening to ensure there is no bees remaining from the previous queen

      @@BlackMountainHoney All of this is very interesting and good knowledge. I wish the beekeeper that put hives on my land would have given me a paper to know what to do. Bees seem to react differently whether there is pollen to harvest or not. Thanks for the videos.

    Will Any Drones not pass on the aggressive nature?

    • @Stumper52
      @Stumper52 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd think he wouldn't bring unknown genetics into his mating yard. While the currently present drones would pass on the agressive genetics it is also a lot less likely that any single queen would get mated with only drones from those hives (queens mate with around 10 drones). You are likely going to get genes from the wild bees in the area and yours and other beeks in the same area and if all others except these 4 are gentle the hot genes should diminish with time as these 4 colonies requeen themselves. To speed it up you replace the queen yourself. With that all you need is a full cycle of brood to get the new genetics in.

    • @weibring
      @weibring 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      once he re queens with his buckfasts, job done..as they are all mated and ready to go, they will not take genetics from these other drones

    For those of us on the other side of the pond, what's an "allotment" - a farm?

    • @joeyvanvuren1335
      @joeyvanvuren1335 ปีที่แล้ว

      An allotment is an area of land, leased either from a private or local authority landlord, for the use of growing fruit and vegetables. In some cases this land will also be used for the growing of ornamental plants, and the keeping of hens, rabbits and bees.

    Larry, ask yourself this? What were the bees behaving like before Mr Numpty killed the Queens? If they were ok but maybe not quiet enough for an allotment, just move them, and if you don’t have the funds to buy Queens, leave the best QC. After a little while, with an emerged new Queen and with a more diverse foraging area, you’ll be golden.
