    I think DJI would need to change the laws of physics to make much impact on this 'issue'. If you want a camera that records for extended periods while its CPU is going flat out, don't buy one that is in a small case which can't continuously dissipate the heat. Or, as you say, use it where it has some chance of being cooled. Of course I can't prove it but it seems to me that most people who have bought it and actually use it in real world situations - like me - don't find that overheating is a significant problem. Usually mine gets no more than a bit warm - here in sunny Australia.... Some people seem to want to do crazy things with it - one reviewer complained that it couldn't be used for 4K120 vlogging. Hmmm. Slow motion vlogging... now that's a new concept. I mean, really.

    I have overheating issues with Go Pro too so I am still going for this at least for the convenient design plus Rock steady stabilization and low light capability.

    If you had one choice, would you get the action 2 or gopro 10? The deal breaker for me are cheaper batteries and replaceable lens.

    Hi folks. Cooling air flow on bike, solar heating through car windscreen on black camera body as mentioned below. The comment about the codecs (H264 vs H265) may well be right, H265 requires a lot of computer effort to encode. I'm not at all sure why hyper lapse should be a problem, the cameras just running a timer between taking the frame shots. Does seem a bit odd that this happens. Maybe the heat cut off settings are too conservative? Letting it run too hot though would shorten its lifetime.

    Young next time chose the white body camera. She doesn't overheat. For example, in very sunny day body black car is very hot. But body white car isn't hot. And when you are inside a black car in hot weather, it's terrible. But in white car is more comfortable.
    I was surprised that the camera isn't powered off in such cold weather.

    did you set temp to high? and is it possible to turn of screen during recording? i think the oled screen always on is whats causing the overheating. btw insta360 go 2 cant record 4k tho, so its not really a comparison.

    • @freakenste
      @freakenste 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If set to high, it still does overheat but it will take a bit longer to overheat. Also it will get super hot that it will hurt your hand if you hold it more than 3 secs.
      The screen can be turned off while recording.

    I see that it overheats in the car, and if I record or have my iPhone in a holder in my car, the windscreen amplifies the heat and the iPhone gets hot. If I record for 40-50min on my iPhone in my workshop on a warm day, it gets warm but does not overheat. Anyway, just sharing my similar experience with my device in a car. Great update BTW - keep smiling 😃

      In a car, turn on the air conditioner, and if on the dashboard, direct the fans to the defroster vents for the windshield.. turn it down to a fan, and let the fan keep it chilled.

    • @aa-au
      @aa-au 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrPir84free I now have a mount right in front of the vents to keep it cool. I previously had a mount on the windscreen which made the phone hot, and I could not point a vent onto it as it was above the dash and in an awkward spot on the windscreen.

    it's not a fair comparison. recording at 4K is 2 times faster than recording at 1080p (2k).
    Try using the same resolution for both and use all the same factors like stabilsation off/on

    • @silbay
      @silbay 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      wrong 4K is 8 times the resolution of 1080p and you have not idea if the data stream is faster unless you know the bitrate

    Thank you for the honest, real-world testing and what you found with the overheating. I was n Florida in September with eh original Action 1 and never got any overheating...next summer I think there will be a lot bigger issue as people use the OA2 for vacation video and it overheats.
    Not sure if there is much that DJI can do with firmware to correct this.
    Can you turn off the screen while recording after it starts and the shot is framed to save battery and help with overheating? Do not own, just curious if that is an option.

    Here in Taiwan it has been between 15C - 20C and just saw on one of the major local tech TH-cam channels here that it overheats with 5 - 10 minutes of recording. Maybe some of you complainers should take a film class. Real cameramen for real film don't shoot continuous 10 minute clips. They shoot 10 second clips. Watch a movie or TV show someday and time the clips, shooting hours of video to edit it down to a few minutes is moronic but how most of you operate since you have no clue about scripts, timelines, pre-planning, etc. Just totally amateurish.
