9:56 The junkyard is only shuffled when new cards are added to the junkyard. Getting a tie in a skirmish adds that contested resources card to the junkyard (and then shuffles the junkyard) but the junkyard does not otherwise shuffle at the end of the round.
I actually played this a few years ago but needed the refresher. I love SU&SD but this is the 1st "how to play" video I've watched from them. Excellent as always! Thank you.
@@Geokinkladze It's a better implementation than the actual rules, where you do so any time anyone junks one or more cards. Cue 4 separate shuffles turn one, ugh.
My second favourite deckbuilding game after Star Realms. Love playing this! Thanks for a mint play through guide, hopefully more people will be encouraged to get this game and rate it!
one mechanic I am iffy about, as a player who has played TCG's who have them, is the whole interfering with Snipers and Saboteurs. Cuz you gotta tell your friend "stop", which gives away you got a card like this, and then if you reconsider and regret using it, you just gave away you got this card. Furthermore, it demands you to be super quick, cuz if your friend starts doing his action and quickly looks at the deck cards before giving you a chance to interfere, it's so annoying, what happens if you decide "no you know what, I kill your scavenger" after your friend has already picked up the cards.
Hi I'm a new subscriber :-) Really good rules video! Not too long, humour not too silly but still fun and engaging. Perfect way to prepare for new game - just get everyone to watch the video, while one person (me usually!) actually reads the rules. Do u have a request list somewhere (eg your website or bgg) for people to suggest (+/- vote for) Rules vidoes? That would be awesome (Rahdo does that, I hear). Cheers from a fellow Brit, Sal
Arctic Scavengers was one of the first SU&SD review I ever saw. I still need to buy this game; my friends haven't really liked most deckbuilders we've tried (Dominion, the Marvel deckbuilding game, Warmachine: High Command), but I think this one seems to be a cut above the rest.
I'm confused by 5:05 - "Let's say I've send them both to hunting", is that a legal move? I thought tools and group leaders are enhancing abilities, so how can two Scavengers go hunting? Also can a group leader do anything on their own? /Edit: Also with "you can only do each thing once", does a buy for pills count as hunting, so that the Scavenger(s) cannot shop this round?
I have nit played the game yet. But the rules say you can only hunt for 1 card. You can choose two scavengers to get a two cost card. Pills are considered hunting aswell. So i hope this answers your question
So the initiator gets advantage in fights as the first person to act with their snipers after all the hands have been revealed? Any sniper taken out by another sniper, doesn't get their effect when their turn rolls around?
If you take out a sniper team with another sniper team, both players discard them. What does it matter who shot first? Both cards end up in the discard piles of the involved players and come back in future rounds, as well as count towards your victory population.
@@Muenni If I snipe your sniper your sniper cannot then take out my brawler. Hard to shoot if you're dead. Meaning my brawler is much safer going into the skirmish if I can support them with a sniper team.
Shut Up & Sit Down oh, thank you for replying personally. Your videos are great. I met your channel a few weeks ago (when I bought great western trail) and it is the best! My son and I like trading card games, so I was looking forward a deck building game, I was finding this one great, but then I saw the cannibalism and suicide bomber cards O.O
So glad you're enjoying, welcome! Both are optional, so you could pull them out and still enjoy what is probably our favourite deck builder - but there are certainly safer options out there.
Man, I am always so confused why you guys like this game so much. I have played it a Tonne and while at first it seems quite fun, the theme is great and the game brings out the theme nicely. However it really is not a great game in and of itself, your decisions hardly matter, each game is usually very close with the winner only pulling it out because of a bit of luck. Snipers seem like a cool idea, but using them always feels naff as you are only advantaging everyone but the leader by taking then, while dis advantaging yourself. There is no feeling of play and counter play that happens with picking cards, it kind of feels like you need a few more turns for your engine to ever work. I found it a good game to get people into the idea of some more thematic games, but not something that you would want to play with the idea of having a good interesting and deep play session.
^This is a bit of an unfair retort: a truly solid game has a strong core which holds solid no matter how many expansions you tack onto it. That said, given that the first 4 expansions for AS come in the base box, and at least 2 are good enough to start with fresh, it does hold some truth. The game is genuinely best when you can simply unleash it upon your friends without any idea of how it will play and go (and who among us would say base Dominion isn't solved by this point?), so striving to lunge ahead to all of the juicy content is critical.
10:25 "Group Leaders. These guys are a bit of a cross between tools and humans." Just like in real life.
Haha

Once I noticed I couldn't stop watching Matt fidgeting via his reflection in the glass of the picture in the top right corner.
Thanks for the walk through! Saved a lot of time on learning this game!
Pills here!
Quinns startled the Witch!
wait? don't you not have a skirmish on round 1 and 2. its on page 4 of the book.
Kyle Nevling You are correct. Skirmishes don't start until round 3.
Also you don't shuffle junkyard at the end of every turn.

Our group plays with the discard pile hidden.
O wow I always thought you HAD to take at least one card when digging. Always worth watching these even when I already think I know the rules.
Impeccable timing guys! I just snagged a copy of this at Origins.

Mark Dryden I've just picked it up based on this video!
Jimmie Harp, it is excellent!
Coool video. I just ordered this game.
Loved this, big help! Cheers.
The lighting in this video is much better than in the review

Mine's coming in the mail today! Can't wait :D
Is that an ANR credit shirt? If so I want 10
ditto!
These how to play videos were a short lived series from SU&SD. Were they a trial? Will we see them return?
This looks damn tempting... You can get all the expansions in one box too...
5:40 PILLS HERE!
Doesn't look that complicated, will have to try it sometimes. Thanks for the vid :)

After I noticed the lady in the mirror, I had a hard time ignoring it.
I really love your channel, I'm really worried about you because you don't look so good are you okay?

Ha!
This game seems inappropriate for children, does it?
The (optional) leader module has implied cannibalism, and the core game involves battling, so we'll leave that in your court!
