    NGL, I'm gonna pick the that green robe rattie every day because that green is so purty (and reminiscent of the late great goblin green). I like the stage comparison shots a lot, it kind of lets you see what will actually look good and be worth doing, in this case the grey/metal bits on the arm and knee really popped at the last stage, a small thing and I could probably skip a lot of the other extras but that one detail kinda made it for me.

    Awesome video as always. My video suggestion would be something I struggle with a lot, and that is deciding what order to paint the various parts of a fresh miniature after the undercoat. My inner reasoning tells me to do the hard to reach places first but if those areas contain fine detailing you lose the opportunity to 'slap' contrast paint on with reckless abandon. Do the contrast first and suddenly you need to go super slow mo to get all those inner areas. Some guidance on how to prioritise would help me if no-one else!!

  • @koz1138
    @koz1138 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    I think the unspoken variable in the speed vs. quality debate is a sort of slightly-indefinable measure of "interest." It varies from model to model but after some nonzero number of hours it feels like you just get sick of the one you're working on and want to do something, anything else. The same thing can happen with a unit - I've been working on a squad of 10 Deathwing and I really, really just want to be finished them, but I'm sort of forcing myself to power through and get them done to the standard I want.
    The trick would be to find a process that gets a model done to a standard you find acceptable BEFORE you cross that interest threshold. Still working on that, myself.

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Absolutely man, it's ALL about batch-sizes and feedback loops, whether that's on one mini or an army, it's important to keep the enthusiasm, which makes you enjoy it, and find the time.
      Everyone's different, when I was doing armies I really put a lot of thought into this, it makes such a huge difference.
      Top tip: Save basing for when you're 70-80% done and motivation and grind vibes are at the lowest, do the base, feel good, home straight, black rim, DONE. It makes such a big difference because you know you have a fast, high-impact process to look forward to, and you do it and suddenly your minis go from looking 30% done to 90%.
      Great comment, thanks for your input!

    If someone has ever to use fluo markers on what you said, be it the very last words: Good Bye.. jk😅
    The method axiom: One coat paint solutions will get you better results faster, both in application and learning curve. Also being so forgiving the fun factor goes up insanely. That's really something to keep in mind, brain candy so you won't quit. BUT... there's a skill roof you won't EVER surpass just using speed painting. On the other hand, old school will give you (over time) brush control, dilution knowledge, etc. Yet 1st steps will be really disheartening as it demands to be super neat. Going this path you've setting the road for glazing and such.
    Speaking of which, my suggestion is a video on glazing and there's why: in the past you've done a service to the comunity destroying the myth that drybrush has nothings to do with technique nor control. You've done such great job at that even my wife (long ago) bought me a D series set with my name on it. And I never ever do drybrush, despite it's a really wonderful way to get half of the work done in no time, then you can pump it up.
    So, as you have series S you might debunk how 'pro' is glazing by both explaining why a good brush makes the difference (how it loads and unloads paint compared to cheap brushes) and how easy is to glaze when you know the ABCs like what dilution rates are you aiming for, how to unload your brush before going into the mini, and which part of the brush and kind of motion (stopping the pigment push at the frontier of both colors etc) you should be using. Color choices are really important (don't use the one with lots of white on them).
    IMHO you could unlock this knowledge to lots of people just like you did with your series D as it's just matter of what you have to aim for. Plus you already have a terrific product to make it easier. Newbies sometimes need to kill the fear of ruining "good brushes" as really good ones like yours will spread glazes like hot knife does butter, something cheap synthetic brushes struggle with most of the time.
    I do not leave coments often so when I do I want to rest sure you acknowledge how grateful the hoby should be for having people refining and refloating old outdated topics (it feels like drybrush got demonised back at the Rackham minis /nmm era).

Do you think it's a decent technique?

      @ArtisOpus  26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    • @ArtisOpus

      Airbrush varnish is great, make sure you put thinner first and mix thoroughly, your thinner will dilute and MATTE your varnish of choice, so consider that the higher the ratio of thinner the higher the matte :).

    How do you paint surfaces to look gloss, satin and matt? Can these be combined with different varnish finishes? I’ve seen some amazing reflective surfaces painted but when you notice that they’ve been done with very flat paint it can break the illusion.

      Paint finish is definitely worth a video, our concern is how to get people to click it 😅. It's something I cover a lot in classes, and is completely underused and underrated

    Heh boss man… Any chance of a video showing how to dry brush the Libarian in Terminator armor please ? These glowing runes are doing my head in. And I’m sure there is a way to dry brush my way to a nice effect.

    Hey Artus I’ve been binge watching your leather/fabric 3 watch videos and was wondering if you could do one on grey leather or a shark skin type texture?

    I'd love some ideas on uses for the set I just bought on a whim.

    I love to just paint. I really don't like "speed painting" at all tbh. I started in the days before we even knew we had to thin down the paints. When minis were made of lead.

      This video is timely AF for me, I've just this week started to revisit the basics of base, wash, highlight as I found I was getting lazy and sloppy with Contrast/speed paints.

    Baybe ill still put a wash over contrast if it needs it. Or do a wash after the zenithial (could be any color) then hit it with contrast.
    I still have most of the set of those foundation paints. Ive put them in dropper bottles for safer keeping.
