    Shameless plug. Cop working graveyard in some of the worst parts of Vegas. Can’t tell you guys at CD enough how much I appreciate your guys support and the products you make. Use this flashlight every night on duty and it’s perfect. I was able to PID a guy tossing a gun over a fence who was trying to flee a scene with ease. Light punches through cars and ambient lighting very well too.

      Hey man, city cop in the southern states here. I unfortunately recently lost my gen 1 MCH during a hot call, and felt absolutely naked during a K9 track for an armed subject a couple nights ago. How do you feel about the MCH duty vs the HC? My main concern is PID long-distance and punching through tinted windows when hunting dope. Secondary consideration is battery life, but I keep extra 18650s in my unit.

    • @BLR653
      @BLR653 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@Gman902 I've used them both. I prefer the Duty for a few reasons; the color temperature is much more natural which allows you to identify things much more easily, the spill on the duty is wild (like 3x the spill of the HC), the throw is not quite as far as the HC but this thing still punches far - and not at the expense of situational awareness. Stay safe.

    I'm 5 lights deep with CD: REIN 1 & 3, MCH HC, MCH DF and an OWL. I've been satisfied with them and had no problems with any of them except programming my MCH DF.
    My criticisms are:
    Control switches could be made better on the REIN lights. Less finicky, lower profile to start and maybe also more universally compatible.
    MCH lights need knurled texture somewhere. When it's very cold and hands are super dry or hot and sweaty it feels extra slippery. I used a small ranger band on the MCH HC I use for work to make it grippier.
    We don't need a charger with every light. I'd rather save the $10 or have the option for a second battery included.
    Please keep a version of the OWL in your catalog, maybe make it slightly smaller.

      Agreed on all points.
      Re: knurling, my favorite is on the Convoy L7 --feels smooth to the touch, but extremely grippy when you actually grasp it.
      Re: chargers, I have too many extras from CD bundles that I never opened since I have an XTAR VC4, which is a better charger anyway. Wonder why CD doesn't allow the option to opt out of a charger...

  • @kevinmanning640

    How long can it hold 50,000 cd and 1,800 lumens before it starts stepping down in power?

    • @callofduty60
      @callofduty60 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Off of 1 18650, at 1800 lumens it MIGHT last 20 seconds before its down to 1200 lumens
      Then gradually stepping down and by the 3 minute mark down to about 650-700 lumens where it will remain for the remainder of the batteries life.
      Of course these companies won’t actually give its customers a breakdown of this, they will try to just sell guys on “1800 lumens” … but anybody know what’s flashlights know that’s simply not sustainable AT ALL on 1 18650 battery… for any useable amount of time. Terrible move going with 1800 lumens on this. A light like this should be 1,200 lumens at turn on MAX…. And even then within 5 minutes it’ll be down to about the 700 lumen mark.
      Also, 1800 lumens will make that LED super hot, and create a significant chance of that LED burning itself up …

    • @SteelCityIceBirds
      @SteelCityIceBirds ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Probably about 10 seconds. Watch Werkz videos. Their lumen and candela numbers fall short. Still great lights, but they use instant on numbers which drop almost immediately. So the numbers quoted aren’t the actual functioning numbers.

    • @callofduty60
      @callofduty60 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@SteelCityIceBirds what’s worse is if you read cloud defensive website on the product page for this light.
      It states that the runtime is 60 minutes on “full power”
      It’s beyond false advertising and false information….
      You will NOT get 60 minutes on “full power” you will get 10-20 seconds on a fresh battery at “full power” then the output will drop SIGNIFICANTLY…. if you try using this light for 8 mins + steady on, you will be getting at most 700 lumens.
      Really wish they’d just upload a chart showing lumen output and runtime which would illustrate how the output falls over time and where it levels out to an actual sustainable level.
      The website should state “1800 lumens AT TURN ON, then drops to “X” after “x” minutes and “x” after “x” minutes at the very least.

    • @gtrspeed5311
      @gtrspeed5311 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@callofduty60 And good luck holding onto the light for three minutes of constant operation. Holding the light and using an IR thermometer, the head of the light where it meets the body was up to 124° F after just two minutes. I literally couldn't continue holding on to it and had to shut it off and set it down.

    • @callofduty60
      @callofduty60 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gtrspeed5311 yup, not surprising at all.
      1,800 lumens is just way too much for a flashlight of this size. It makes absolutely no sense.
      I dislike cloud defensive in general due to the sub-par build quality. With that said I’d highly recommend looking into the modlite HOG. It has quickly become one of my favorite tactical flashlights. It’s certainly much larger and runs on a 21700 battery, but it outputs 1350 lumens and can actually sustain the output for a really decent amount of time. The light doesn’t get too hot to hold ect. It just makes way more sense.
      1800 lumens out of an 18650 is just so dumb.
      It won’t even sustain that output longer than 10-15 seconds then it’ll start dropping down in performance.
      All that heat will negatively effect the battery and LED itself over time… id steer clear of this product for sure.

  • @callofduty60
    @callofduty60 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Too much output for a small light that runs on a single 18650.
    1800 lumens isn’t sustainable on 1 18650.
    You might get 20 seconds from turn on at 1800 lumens (and a a burnt hand from the heat) then it’ll step down very quickly. Within 2-3 minutes I bet your only outputting 700 lumens.
    Would be very kind of a company to provide the whole story by providing charts with actual runtime / output for their lights.
    Both CD and modlite just throw the highest output they can get at turn on and use that to market the light, neither company offer any insight in to how much time you actually have of that amount of usable light. Really frustrating especially while they are marketing to first responders.

      Didn't work. Battery jack has also been tightened a ton too, both before and after installing the head. No dice.
      They took it back, claimed they couldn't find anything wrong with it, and told me to torque it some more like you just did. figured id give my input on potential features and other things, I'm a mechanic and fairly serious shooter, and I've got a streamlight protac 2lx thats been my daily driver for 2ish years now and it has been a VERY hard two years on this light and its been amazing to me.
    #1 great thing about the 2lx is its small diameter, it fits in the 1" belt loops that are becoming common on work pants these days, the thyrm switchback would work just fine holding it in one of those loops but not so great holding it on the right side of my back pocket next to my wallet. I feel that a thyrm switchback with a 90 degree offset pocket clip would fix both these issues, but that's for thyrm to mess with, but obviously head size will always limit performance as such with modern technology
    #2 big plus with this light is that it'll do a low/high mode which is perfect for wrenching so as to not get blinded by constant reflections off of metal components that are inches away from my eyes. programmable modes are a huge selling point for me
    if yall make any money off these ideas all I ask is for a case of beer, or a light if I haven't bought one by then.

    CD sold me a bad MCH with a misaligned led and useless tint and they never make it right on me! Not worth to deal with a company that does not stand behind their products!

      That's unfortunate. They sent me the wrong color MCH and had the right one at my door in a few days.
