  • As of a couple days ago, I HIT 10K SUBSCRIBERS!!! I can't believe it; thank y'all SO much!!! I'm so happy my tutorials help so many of you!!!
    Welcome back to part 3 of my first ever fullsuit! And he's finally got a name! :D Debating whether I should edit the previous video titles to say "The making of Jasper" instead of "the making of goat". hmm...
    A more exciting timelapse today - we're onto the fur for the body, and I make the feet hooves! These are my Use Your Own Shoe design - I'll be uploading a video showing the feature off soon.
    I WILL MAKE A GENERAL HOOF FOOT TUTORIAL IN A FEW MONTHS!! Didn't film much of Jasper's feet, sorry!

    I've been having trouble with sewing bias tape and having the stitches on the back being all messed up, do you have any tips on tension, what size needle, or anythings else when sewing through such thick fabric?

    • @triangleshiny
      @triangleshiny 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      very basic tip since i don't use a machine myself: make them far enough apart for your *thickest* material. fur only needs ~8-10 stitches per inch- too many or too small and the seam will bunch and pucker, because there's too much material between each stitch. the extra tension this creates will weaken the overall stitch.

    • @freckledcatcreations
      @freckledcatcreations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@triangleshiny thank you divonne! I'm not sure exactly what tension is necessary but mine is set at about a 3! and my needles are size 90/14 and are ballpoint needles ! @arctanubis

    Hello! I've loved watching this timelapse, it's VERY cool! Do you mind if I ask a quick question? What is the benefit of stuffing pillows and using them when you already have the foam in the right shape over the thighs? Wouldn't the foam provide a more stable shape? Or does that make it harder to move around in because it's not soft? No criticism, just curious! :D

    • @freckledcatcreations
      @freckledcatcreations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! Both foam padding and stuffed pillow padding are commonly used! I haven't done any tests on which retains more heat, I heard from some people that foam is hotter... and you're right, foam would be more stiff. Some makers want really angular strong shapes for the legs, and some want a more squishy soft appearance! I wanted soft for this goat. But in the future if I'm looking for a really defined and stable leg shape definition, I might use the foam.

    • @freckledcatcreations
      @freckledcatcreations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ooh yes!! i completely recommend getting these things (sewing clips), they are cheap and easy to use, and I feel like they're more effective. with pins it pokes a hole in the fabric (which isnt good if youre using vinyl, for example) and it also kinda makes wrinkles and waves? hard to explain... if you check out my Hand Sewing video at 3:10 I show the difference between pins and clips!

    Would you believe me if I said I made a fursuit head out of EVA foam?

    • @freckledcatcreations
      @freckledcatcreations  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      its totally doable and has been done! it makes for a less squishy head, maybe more fragile idk. but a good way to get sharp smooth geometry esp if you do it by the clay mockup method!

      Yeah lol, it was the hardest thing ever. Litterally took me three days with the help of my bro to do it. I had to use a k n I f e. Then after a knife incident later I hotglued two of my fingers’ together and had to get a smalL cast on them.

    Hey I'd like to ask a question! You recommend using upholstery thread when sewing, but does 100% polyester thread work about the same too? Thanks!

    • @freckledcatcreations
      @freckledcatcreations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Youre mistaken! I say that you want to use polyester thread instead of upholstery thread because poly is still strong and upholstery would just tear the fabric first.

      haha nice, the spring scissors are really useful!

    • @NyoomMonster
      @NyoomMonster 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@freckledcatcreations yes they are!
      The part that keeps them closed wore down on mine, though, so storage is harder. But they make it soooo easy to poke through the fur and just get the backing.
      I'm glad to see another maker who pulls the fur off the edges of cut pieces too. A lot of my friends complain about fur being everywhere and I don't have that problem because I clean up the fur from the edges of my fabric before I do anything else with it.

    Do you know how much thread and fur it took to complete Jasper?

    • @freckledcatcreations
      @freckledcatcreations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      he took a lot of fur since he had so many colors! bought like 6 yards of pink, 2 fuchsia, 1 yellow, 1 teal, 3 white... depends on how many colors your character has. but I dont think I ran out of a spool of thread for him. one of most colors should be enough.

      i use a $150 Andis AGC 2 speed , it is GREAT and you get what you pay for! but i heard cheaper ones might work too - Enjoy Pet clippers, Wahl pet clippers. those are like $40

    Do you sew on the seam allowance or on the exact tracing line?

    • @freckledcatcreations
      @freckledcatcreations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I showed it in the video - I'm sewing with a 3/8" seam allowance, meaning I'm leaving 2/8" wiggle room on all the pieces! It might end up being too big giving 2/8" of room on all the pieces, but I'm experimenting !
