I love how this episode emphasizes that at the end of the day, growing old with your family or love of your life (whether that be romantically or platonically) and living a life you can be proud of is truly what humans desire above all else.
Cool Stuff About This Episode (NO SPOILERS): 1. People estimate that Bill is about 10 years older than Joel, which means he was a young adult during the AIDS crisis of the 80s/90s. It's also a popular theory that this is what motivated Bill to be so distrustful of the government. Which makes perfect sense given that he would have seen the Regan Administration completely ignoring a deadly disease because it impacted people they didn't care about. So when the Cordyceps outbreak happened he was distrustful, and it saved his life. 2. Bill probably hated "the world" and "most people", because he's a gay man who grew up in the 20th century, lives in a somewhat rural area, and has no one in his life because of who he is and where he is. Like, yeah, I'd be pretty grumpy too. 3. Frank probably picked up on Bill's sexuality because he spent more time with the gay community, especially given how social and outgoing Frank is. Bill didn't seem to pick up on the hints cause, well, he wasn't around the community. Which makes Frank's attempt to get a read on Bill even funnier, cause Bill is like "It's so strange talking to someone." and Frank is like, "BUT IS HE GAY OR NOT?!" 4. Frank's illness is never specified, but the creators said it was either MS or ALS. I think it's probably ALS, because it's more common in men and mostly diagnosed between 40 to 70 years old. 5. Frank said, "Paying attention to things is how we show love" and later the house is full of paintings that he made of Bill. And judging by the number of paintings I'd say he really loves Bill. Also, if you notice, Bill is watering the flowers and maintaining the outside of the house, because he knows it makes Frank happy. So I'd say Bill also really loves Frank. 6. Since the world fell apart in 2003, same-sex marriage never happened in the US. So, Bill and Frank getting married is extra heartwarming and heartbreaking.
I agree with everything except that it was probably MS. Bill and Frank would have no way to diagnose ALS, meanwhile MS can be diagnosed very young without having serious medical consequences for some patients until they are much, much older. ALS also impacts the body differently than what was presented. He had upper body motor issues (swallowing, fine motor control, but could still do walking transfers - those few steps even with Bill's help says a lot.) I know most people wouldn't know that if you don't have personal experience or medical experience, but it's an amazingly accurate portrayal of MS.
It makes you realize how many bullets they dodged in that first episode as far as infection goes. They didn't make pancakes, they didn't eat the neighbor's biscuits, Sarah didn't eat the raisin cookies, Joel forgot to bring home a cake.
bunch of people complained that 'this episode is irrelevant to the story and is a waste of time', no, this IS the story, this IS what last of us is about; protecting those that you love so that you can live out your lives.
i think a lot of people, especially those who played the game like myself, was expecting something similar to what they got in the game, or, what they got from bill in the game but i honestly liked the changes that they made. bill in the game DEFINITELY served his purpose and it was a fun section along with the fact that he was a fun character but i think the show NEEDED this. so much of it is bleak but this was a nice breath of fresh air.
@trevvy2124 Yes. Especially on how Frank went in the game, honestly that made me so mad, but I'm glad they at least gave the character a chance in the show. I do wish Bill and Ellie got to meet, I loved their interaction interaction the game.
i'm sure i've said this before but i can't get over the way rizzo is so open and vulnerable about his emotions. it's so sweet and speaks for how big of a heart he has. love you guys to infinity and beyond 💞
If Rizo is sobbing while watching this episodes, baby boy is not ready for the next 2 and the ones following after that !!! P.s. I was sobbing too. 13:39
This is the only episode I cried at. But then, I don’t usually cry at sad things. It’s wholesome family dynamic that gets me every single time. I wonder if Benji ever cried at any reaction? The dude is rock, lol
I loved this episode as well but I did not shed a tear while watching it as well. My daughter was crying but I wasn't. She found that really weird because I am the one usually sobbing my eyes out. I don't know why the water works didn't happen but I thought this was a beautiful episode.
If I ended up in an apocalyptic scenario, I’d loot the Barnes & Noble for books on foraging, first aid, the dummy’s guide to becoming an electrician, etc. Otherwise I’d just hope to go immediately lol. Anyway, one of the best television episodes ever
I've watched Benji say "Gwon! Get!" soooo many times in the past 9 days that I accidentally said it to a colleague today and then had to explain why I couldn't stop laughing at myself! 😅🙈😂
I'm the same way. My family has always mocked me for it. Thankfully, my husband understands and is also very readily emotional. Welcome to the club Hobbes.
So I cried worse than I have cried in a long time at this episode. My dad’s name was Frank and during the last part of his life his husband took care of him like Bill did and I could not hold it together. I’m glad you guys enjoyed this episode and are watching this show. This was the episode I decided to continue watching the series.
I LOVE this episode. I completely missed the sexual tension, so when Bill was playing the piano and Frank was behind him, I was convinced Frank was going to kill him😂. It was so sweet though. Nick Offerman did such a good job, especially in the scene where he told Frank he was basically a virgin. He conveyed the mixture of anticipation and nervousness at the same time. The whole thing was perfect, even the fight.
20:05 I’m a married dude in my 50’s. I’ve been married to the same woman for literally over half my life. I’m onto firearms, preparedness etc. My wife also is into these things but not as much as I am. I used to watch prepping stuff a LOT. But then on one channel the moderator asked a question to folks in my age group (50 and above) - “You are older and having to take medicine regularly. What type of life would you have in the post apocalypse? Could you really see yourself living relatively alone and fighting off younger stronger people for decades with failing health?” My wife has had health issues and I’ve literally had to carry her up the stairs so this episode hit hard. After that thought I just changed my mind on a lot of long term stuff. As long as an emergency isn’t an end of the world SHTF scenario I will prep and be ready. But if it’s a global crisis I’m not gonna try to survive that by myself. Keeping my wife and our dog alive would be my priority and purpose. But there is no way I would try to live like Bill did alone. Had Frank not shown up dude would have probably went completely nuts and deleted himself. Frank saved Bill as much as Bill saved Frank This is a good human story anyone in a long term relationship can identify with. Kudos
In an episode full of genuine heart that I'd already rewatched and cried over multiple times, your line "They would have loved her," made me bawl all over again. They would have SO loved Ellie.
Watched this with my roommate, a straight guy who doesn't often cry at tv and movies, it takes a lot to get to him. Both of us were SOBBING at this episode. It was such a beautiful story, one that post-apocalypse stories don't tend to get into at all, which made it feel even more intense for me. I never played the game but I watched a Let's Player play it. I really appreciated the changes they made in the show to Bill and Frank's story. In the game, it's very different, I won't spoil that if you end up wanting to play it, but I personally much prefer the show's take on them. I was crying like Rizzo, but I was also bracing myself like Benji. I've seen so many queer couples suffer in media, usually just for tragedy p*rn reasons, and I kept waiting for that here. I think the show handled it well, and especially because they go into their room and close the door ... we don't get to see their final moments. They get privacy together. It's not gratuitous. Idk, I've seen a lot of painful stuff over the years and this one didn't feel cruel like those did.
This was a rollercoaster of emotions... When I saw the episode I cried so hard one of my friends told me "I got emotional seeing you cry".... It was so well done!!!
Honestly the most insufferable reactions are the clearly performative ones that constantly try to be a third rate MST3K by making bad jokes every five seconds.
I've seen this episode 5 times in its entirety, and I've watched well over 30 reactors react to this episode, but when Rizzo started to cry the first time Frank kissed Bill... I lost it. I broke down like an old beat-up truck... 😭😭😭
I absolutely BAWLED at this episode I was definitely questioning Frank’s motives at first, but after seeing the whole 3-4 years later part, I was like 😮
This episode almost felt like a mini movie. It’s incredible how they managed to make such a beautiful and compelling love story in a single episode while some shows try do that in 6 seasons and fall short. I definitely cried like Rizzo. I really think this show deserves an Emmy for the overall quality of the production (acting, storytelling, cinematography). (Unrelated, but just had to mention how I lol’d at Benji threatening to put Rizzo in the straight corner)
This episode pissed me off cuz how dare they make a zombie apocalypse show and dedicate an entire episode to one of the most heartwarming and heartwrenching love stories like fuck you 😭 (as always I love your guys reactions)
If I'm not wrong, in the game Frank actually hangs himself because he gets infected. He leaves Bill because he's fed up with the life they have and goes into the world where he gets infected. When Joel and Ellie get to Bill's they all go out to a city I think or something and they find franks hanging body. He leaves Bill a letter basically saying how the worse thing of the whole zombie apocalypse thing was living with Bill. (I saw someone who played the game react to this show and they explained that ^). Honestly I'm happy I the show their love story ends the way it did and not in the way the game did it.
Your reactions are great as always! This episode was so beautiful. it was so refreshing seeing this gay love story portrayed just as a story, without any stereotypes or coming of age/bullying tropes. Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett were perfect. I also loved Bill’s letter to Joel in terms of influencing Joel’s character development-he learns from Bill that through loving Frank and letting himself be loved, he was able to not just survive but live-surviving this world is meaningless without love. Joel realizes that he needs to protect Ellie the same way Bill protected Frank. Lastly, Joel is for sure an LGBTQ+ ally and we love that for him…Pedro is a huge ally and advocate himself (he has a trans sister named Lux)! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🍓
I loved this episode. They really gave us a much better ending to their story than the game. In the game Frank gets bit and kills himself before he turns. 😭 And they broke up
I genuinely still sobbed watching even a reaction video of this episode. I don't know how they made something so thoroughly, fully, beautiful but I'm glad I didn't miss it
Knew you would love this one! It’s so beautiful ♥️ Hope you guys enjoy the rest of the season! (Though when you mentioned that you’d heard this one is “The sad one”… well… they’re basically ALL “the sad one”… be prepared 😂)
I love how even though the bigots tried to review bomb this episode they couldn’t drop it below 8/10 . One of the best episodes of television in a long, long time.
Awwww. Rizzo. 🥺🥺🥺. Benji, you are a hard one to crack. Oufff. It only gets better and better with the stories that evolve during the journey of this show. As always, love your reactions.
I'm getting married tomorrow and today at 3 am I woke up sick till about 10 am because I stupidly mixed jello shots with ice cream 💀 I needed this reaction to take my mind off things Thank you 😂❤
When Rizzo started crying when they kissed I thought, "Oh noooo he's not ready 😭" The first time I watched this episode was through another reaction video (Brad Evans) while I was at work and was blindsided by how fast I cried. The two moments that got me was the conversation on the couch and Bill crying, then Bill saying "You were my purpose" ugh it gets me every time. Another video I watched on this episode pointed out that since gay marriage wasn't legal yet, this was the best possible future either of them could have ever hoped for.
@@PinkPopcast you guys were actually one of the few I've seen to remember that fact! That and the release dates for various movies, very impressive memory 😄
Watched the live stream, but here's a comment for the algorithm: This episode made me cry so hard that I was worried my neighbors would come check on me. I'm not exaggerating. As a queer person with a degenerative neuromuscular disease, this episode hit me HARD!!!!!! People don't talk enough about how significant it is that Bill not only turns his back on Frank to play piano, but he immediately admits, "There's no girl," to a stranger. Frank could've been a raging homophobe who would've wanted to harm him for being gay. There were several real-world examples of that happening to people at that time. Bush was trying to ban gay marriage then, too, so this had to be intentional timing on the show's part. The fact that Frank cries when they first kiss, and Bill is so hesitant at first but reciprocates the kiss quickly despite how paranoid he is, shows just how lonely and starved for love both men have been. Frank may have gotten some gaydar vibes from Bill (the chargers, plating, and the way he poured the wine all read very queer to me, on top of all the body language and acting choices by Nick Offerman). Bill likely would've ignored any intuition like that he had, being as paranoid as he is. The show runners said Frank already knew about his MS/ALS, so he always knew he was going to deteriorate physically and need a lot of help. He definitely would've told Bill, and Bill was prepared to not only continue to protect them but to take care of Frank's physical needs. The man who doesn't care about appearances takes care of the flowers because he knows they're important to his partner, and he cares about Frank's emotional health as much as his physical one. Bill doing that is unfathomable on day 1. Bill and Frank getting married set at current day (as gay marriage staying legal in the US is on unsure footing) is so poignant. I definitely would've done the same as Bill and Frank at the end. If Nick Offerman doesn't win an Emmy for his performance, I'm going to be so upset. Thank you, Megan Mullally, for telling your husband to take this role. The world is better for it. Joel's daughter did have a bunch of biscuits at the neighbor's house, so she was going to turn regardless.
This really was an amazing a beautiful episode and truly surprising that we were able to follow this live story in such an unlikely setting, I always love Megan Mullally and knowing she made this happen makes me love her that much more ❤️❤️
This episode killed me when I first saw it. Still does. In the game it’s insinuated bill and frank were together but never was explored. This humanized them so much and really makes it a wonderful love story. I still cry every time
This damn episode wrecked me for a week. I couldn't even focus at work cause I kept thinking about them. I adore Bill and Frank so much. As soon as Frank showed up, I just knew these gay dads were gonna ruin me in the best ways. I even gushed about it with one of my supervisors at work. While episode 8 might objectively be the best episode in the show (no spoilers), episode 3 is my absolute favorite no contest. ❤❤
Rezo is such a crybaby. I loved it. I think this is the best episode. But you are in for more tears. Thank you, guys, for doing what you do. The best reaction channel out.
I think what keeps people going on is the people they develop relationships with. I think you'll have a a great traumatizing time with Joel and Ellie, and seeing them really grow as characters.
I’m so glad you guys are enjoying this show so far. Also love how in sync Benji is with Ellie😂 I loved your jokes and your thoughts on it. This episode really sends a clear message of what this show is about, the difference between survival and living. It kinda reminds me of a conversation I had with my parents when we were watching it, we like this show a lot and find it really interesting because not everyone is bad and not everywhere is doom and gloom. It is possible to live a better life, which makes things interesting because there’s more a moral weight to everything. It’s not like we’re all desensitized from everything because it’s all so bad and it doesn’t matter if you do something bad because everyone else is being terrible, instead there is a weight to it all. That it matters what is right and wrong and that we can do better. That helping people or opening up isn’t a guarantee to blow up in your face. Bill and Frank are proof of that, that we can be happy and help each other despite how bad the world is. The world might have gotten messed up, but it isn’t the end of it, it can still be good.
Yeah, that’s definitely like the conversation we had about really not liking zombie movies that are just about surviving and enjoying this one because it’s more about living ❤️❤️
Having never played the game, I didn't know the characters. My untrusting mind kept expecting something bad to happen, mainly because everything seemed to be going so well. When it cut to Bill and Frank three years later, I decided to go back and rewatch them meeting. Im so glad I did. This has to be my favorite episode, despite how sad it is. This episode is so beautiful.
I've been rewatching your first and second episode reactions, waiting for this... I just click on your faces four times before realizing it only premieres at midnight in my country. 🥴🤕😒
When this episode aired and I watched it, my only thought (after I stopped crying) was ‘damn we got the best episode of TV of 2023 out of the way EARLY.’
Remember the code for the radio in episode 1? 80s means trouble. Bill hasn’t been around for at least 2 weeks to reset his transmissions so when it played the Depeche Mode song it’s was 2 weeks ago that they died. #NotOnTheStrawberries 🍓
I love how this episode emphasizes that at the end of the day, growing old with your family or love of your life (whether that be romantically or platonically) and living a life you can be proud of is truly what humans desire above all else.
🥰🥰
@@PinkPopcast will you marry me💍
and that makes ellies story next season a lot sadder ngl
Cool Stuff About This Episode (NO SPOILERS):

Same-Sex marriage was legalized in Massachusetts in 2004. Cruelly, a few months after Outbreak. So... yeah, double underline your point 6.
about 4th point, franks illness and assisted suicide mirrors how he got bit (als and fungus make you lot control of your body) and killed himself.
I agree with everything except that it was probably MS. I liked this episode. Bill and Frank had a great dynamic that felt authentic. It showed while Bill knew how to survive, Frank knew how to LIVE.

😭 And they broke up
I much prefer this, and not a bury tour gays trope that disrespects their relationship
I knew Rizzo would cry but I thought Benji would shed at least ONE tear!! One day!! 😂😂
😅😅
😂🤔
14:22 - I love that Frank's love language is Acts of Service ❤
😭😭
WILL SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE RIZZO A FUCKING HUG???
He doesnt always want to be touched when he’s emotional ❤️
❤😊
my god, benji is bill and rizzo is frank lmao
🤣🤣🤣
Me seeing RIzzo tear up at the first kiss already like oh. Oh this will destroy him at the end.
It was beautiful 😭😭
Even in a series about apocalypse there was a bittersweet romcom through Bill and Frank's story. 🥺🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I genuinely still sobbed watching even a reaction video of this episode. I don't know how they made something so thoroughly, fully, beautiful but I'm glad I didn't miss it
This episode was soo good. I loved it! I was basically Rizzo watching this episode, I could not stop crying. Can't wait for the next episode!

Knew you would love this one! It’s so beautiful ♥️ Hope you guys enjoy the rest of the season! (Though when you mentioned that you’d heard this one is “The sad one”… well… they’re basically ALL “the sad one”… be prepared 😂)
Haha thanks for the heads up
This actually the happiest one said the creator
RIZZO STARTED CRYING THE EXACT MOMENT I DID WHEN I FIRST SAW THE EP FOR THE SAME REASONS LMAO
❤️❤️
The hosts reactions were as moving as this episode ❤
It is one of the most beautiful episodes of any tv show ever.
Absolutely 🥰🥰
This episode was a stunning masterpiece designed to make you FEEL all the feelings. 🎹🍓🍷🛏
Eversince you started not reacting to this show I was DYING to see your reaction to this episode! I cannot wait!!!!!!!!!
Love you guys so much
Lolol almost there
Sobbed my heart and soul out at this episode. Broke me. Nick Offerman was an absolute revelation. Xx
Aww as soon as I saw the release I was like “oh no, Rizzo isn’t gonna make it thru this one without tears for sure”.😂😢 Wonderful episode boys!
I love how even though the bigots tried to review bomb this episode they couldn’t drop it below 8/10 . One of the best episodes of television in a long, long time.
🙌🙌🙌
15:35 Rizzo breaking down saying "😭they're living life😭" is when I could no longer deny I am 100% Rizzo
Rizzo is too pure for this world 🥺
Tyler Posey couldn't stop crying.......so cute.
🤣🤣🤣
Awwww. Rizzo. 🥺🥺🥺. Benji, you are a hard one to crack. Oufff. It only gets better and better with the stories that evolve during the journey of this show. As always, love your reactions.
🥰🥰
I'm getting married tomorrow and today at 3 am I woke up sick till about 10 am because I stupidly mixed jello shots with ice cream 💀 I needed this reaction to take my mind off things Thank you 😂❤
Hope you feel better and congratulations!!
@@TheSuperNats thank you!!🥺💕
No prob lol, and congratulations!!!
Rizzo crying is so friggin endearing holy eff
It's adorable how Rizzo is immediately crying and Benji is just 😑
Bill and Frank won the apocalypse
They absolutely did!! Haha
@@PinkPopcast omg. Did we just become best friends?!
Every time rizzo cries he gets more attractive to me lmao
😂
When Rizzo started crying when they kissed I thought, "Oh noooo he's not ready 😭" The first time I watched this episode was through another reaction video (Brad Evans) while I was at work and was blindsided by how fast I cried. The two moments that got me was the conversation on the couch and Bill crying, then Bill saying "You were my purpose" ugh it gets me every time.
Another video I watched on this episode pointed out that since gay marriage wasn't legal yet, this was the best possible future either of them could have ever hoped for.
Yea I assumed they considered themselves married until they had a wedding and we remembered it wasn’t legal before everything went down 🥹
@@PinkPopcast you guys were actually one of the few I've seen to remember that fact! That and the release dates for various movies, very impressive memory 😄
I love how Rizzo loves love🥹🥹
Love this episode, I can't see anyone but Nick Offerman play Bill he did an awesome job. So glad his wife Megan convinced him to take the role.
OMG the editing. Community, Friends... and in pops Vin D. with the Family.... has me cracking TF up.
10:33 Benji is so real singing Piano by Ariana Grande 😌👏🏽👏🏽
🥰🥰
Rizzo is such a sweety 😭 it warms my heart 😢
I still cry every time
OOOMMMMGGGGG RIZZZZ GOT ME BALLING IN TEARS LIKE WHHHYYYYYY😭😭😭😭😭😭
This damn episode wrecked me for a week. I couldn't even focus at work cause I kept thinking about them. I adore Bill and Frank so much. As soon as Frank showed up, I just knew these gay dads were gonna ruin me in the best ways. I even gushed about it with one of my supervisors at work. While episode 8 might objectively be the best episode in the show (no spoilers), episode 3 is my absolute favorite no contest. ❤❤
Haha it’s definitely a super impactful episode
Rezo is such a crybaby. I loved it. I think this is the best episode. But you are in for more tears. Thank you, guys, for doing what you do. The best reaction channel out.
Rizzo, you are a sweetheart. I sobbed while watching this episode too. I hope you got a big hug from someone after watching this.
“The gay one” hahahahahaha as if there’s only one gay episode of the last of us🤣🤣🤣🤣silly goose
I think what keeps people going on is the people they develop relationships with. I think you'll have a a great traumatizing time with Joel and Ellie, and seeing them really grow as characters.
Yes, all about the people
I swear to god, I was reacting like Rizzo the first time watching this. 😂❤ god bless your kind heart. ❤
Rizzo Stop making me Cryyyyy🥺🤧Fantastic watch my Pop Kings👑💞👑
🥰🥰
YES, Pop Kings and soon to be a million Pop Stars joining the charge.😊❤
guys crying is so hot. I'm still recovering from this episode and I watched it weeks ago.
YES YES YES! I’m so hyped for this review!!!!!!!❤❤❤
I cant believe Rizzo is watching The Last Of Us get ready for more tears sweet guy
Rizzo is all of us. And Benji is a robot! Seriously, no tears??! lol
12:19 I love your emotions
❤️❤️
the most beautiful episode of television ever written. i stand by that
lol “I don’t know straighty want me to send you to the straight corner?” LOL I LAUGHED TOO HARD
Oh no sorry! We’re almost there
we were all just waiting for this episode lbh.
Much hugs to Rizzo that episode really was a cry marathon my goooosh ❤🩹
When this episode aired and I watched it, my only thought (after I stopped crying) was ‘damn we got the best episode of TV of 2023 out of the way EARLY.’
😂😂
Remember the code for the radio in episode 1? 80s means trouble. Bill hasn’t been around for at least 2 weeks to reset his transmissions so when it played the Depeche Mode song it’s was 2 weeks ago that they died.
#NotOnTheStrawberries 🍓
Benji if you cry I cry, too😢
The song at the end...😢😢😭
I know that this is off topic but I notice Rizzo is wearing Guess and I work for them. Love my brand being represented lmao
Rizzo you should read Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. It’s actually a lovely post apocalyptic story.
My husband and I both teared up watching this episode and just hugged each other 😭
YASSSS BITCH ! episode 3 lets go Benji and Ri-Ri
