  • This video shows the highlights of our walk across the top of Australia on the 21st November 2020. We originally were scheduled to do the walk in March of the same year but due to Covid restrictions, we had to postpone to later in the year. How fortunate this turned out to be, as the seasonal snow was still on the ground making for a very pleasant set of circumstances to enjoy some fun in the sun and a few detours from the main track.
Located within the Kosciuszko National Park, the Main Range Walk takes you from the car park at Charlottes Pass to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko, Australia's highest mountain. From the summit we continued on back to the Charlottes Pass car park via the Summit Trail. This completes a full circuit of the range, a total of approximately 24km. Along the way we took a short detour to see Blue Lake and enjoyed breaks at Carruthers Peak and Lake Albina (Note: in the video it says Lake Alpina, this should be Lake Albina). The walk is along a formed path, well sign posted and easy to follow.
However, it is not an simple walk and requires some preparation in terms of fitness and adequate hiking essentials like food, water and appropriate clothing for the prevailing weather conditions. Fortunately, the weather was as good as it can be for the region and the walk was successfully completed in 11 hours. A little long perhaps, but the opportunities to play in the snow and take many photos had to be taken! Hope you enjoy the presentation.
