☕ the CSR is probably over the Amex plat to me since the $300 credit is basically instant and priority pass restaurants is something people should look closely at their home and destination airports since they offer higher value and no crowding vs the lounges. The earn rate on Amex platinum is basically nothing unless it's through Amex as well. The CSR is a combination earner and benefits card with easy to utilize benefits.
One thing Sebby does that is great is letting you know that your best choice depends on how you use the card. For me, I travel Delta often and go through lots of places that either have Sky Lounges or Centurion lounges, so I get a ton of use from that aspect of my Platinum card. I don’t travel to places that have Capital lounges, so for that particular benefit, Platinum trumps Venture X (for me). I do make use of the other Amex benefits, so it works for me. That is the key. Find the card that works for you.
☕ My issue with the Venture X is that all purchases must go through their travel portal. Typically, travel portals seem to have a premium on prices along with a hassle if anything goes sideways (having to call the card company instead of dealing directly with the hotel/airline agent). Given LAS (and previously SEA) is my home airport, Plat is an easy win with lounge access alone.
☕ Love the Venture X, i attempted to pair it with the Saver One but i have applied to too many cards the past year based off their credit report so i was told to wait for February before applying again
The CSR is in dire need of a retooling and a massively improved SUB. I love Chase's ecosystem, but the Venture X, combined with CapitalOne's lounge quality, are definitely going to bring in some competition for it. I'm more than 48 months since I got my Sapphire Preferred and I'm downgrading it for another Sapphire soon, but if they don't boost up its quality, the reserve is an easy pass.
The problem is that the domestic lounge scene in the United States with Priority Pass is bad capital one’s fix for this is opening their own lounge, net network Chase’s is fix for this is to keep Priority Pass restaurants. I know, I get more excited about going to a lounge, then getting a restaurant credit. The other issue is the CSR has an annual fee without any offsetting credits for part of it.
@@jarrod499 This is straight up misinformation. First of all, Chase has their own lounge network too. In the USA, they have a Boston location and have them coming in Las Vegas, New York (LGA), Philadelphia (PHL), Phoenix (PHX), and San Diego (SAN). Also, the CSR certainly does have annual credits that offset its annual fee. They have a $300 annual credit that any travel expensive is eligible for. This is arguably better than the Capital One annual credit, especially since after Capital One's recent change of their annual credit where Capital One gives you $300 to spend on their portal (you earn no points on this spend), while Chase's is an actual reimbursement where you'll earn points and it can be used on anything from flights to parking to trains. I'm not knocking the Capital One Venture X. I have the card myself. I just wanted people to have accurate information.
I agree for a $550 af having the same SUB as the preferred is sad, Imo the base offer should be at least 75k and 90-100k for special limited time offers.
dont't forget the sapphrie reserve provides you with up to 20k trip insurance, and 100k medical insurance when traveling. if you toss up ~100-150 annually as an insurance fee, suddenly the sapphire reserve starts punching pretty hard.
I'm sad for the CSR. It was the perfect card back when it was $450/year. But at $550, it makes no sense. Glad to see Venture X stepped up with its offering. Not perfect, but good enough to challenge the big boys.
As a Sebby School of Credit Card graduate, I must say I agree with all of them. Venture X over Plat, I wasn't so shocked once I realized you just can't go wrong with VX. I love United Quest and of course my all time favorite, Hilton Aspire. Can't have them only 1 so I am planning to get 2nd one soon by upgrade!!!
If they add a CSR or Cap1 Lounge to SFO I'd def switch but until then I'm kinda forced to stick with the Amex Plat. The SFO Centurion lounge is really solid
☕️ I’m surprised you put venture X ahead of platinum. I didn’t realize that you could add authorized users for no fee and they also get the lounge perks. Great thing to consider for my non local family that travels frequently.
☕ my issue with the Citi premier is that i use Costco almost exclusively for gas, so I'm stuck using a Visa card for that big category. Because of that, I wound up getting the Chase aeroplan card for groceries and then using whichever card gets me the highest bonus for gas at any given time, which is unfortunately often the citi Costco visa with a flat 4% cash back (unless a random chase card has an elevated points offer for gas that quarter)
I've somehow ended up working with three card ecosystems - started out with AMEX & Chase; then got into Cap1 when the Venture X came out. I blame Sebby and having TONS of time to watch TH-cam videos during the pandemic!! (Not really, but I have gained a few great tips to maximize the value of all the cards.) I'm also one to go for caffeine when traveling, and since we go through DFW as our main international airport, the Cap1 lounge was the tipping point for getting the VX and Savor One combo. ☕
Even though most of my cards are with Chase I chose the Venture X over the CSR because it’s a complete no brainer. It’s easier to get more value than the annual fee, has a better bonus, and it gets you more guests into Priority Pass lounges. It’s not better in EVERY way, but it’s better for me in all the major areas. Maybe if I wanted priority pass restaurant access I would go for the reserve but otherwise I just think the VX makes more sense.
I went for the Venture X as my first travel card in September 2023 after getting the Chase Freedom Unlimited in July 2023. Snagged a 90k SUB for the Venture X, and was able to easily hit the $4,000 spend in the first month for vacation items in 2024. I did go for the CSR over the CSP because of the Lyft Pink membership + 10x on Lyft rides (which is at least $100 in value for me), my expected spend on flights the next 2 years (over $5,000, including round-trip on long-haul business/first class for one vacation/year - over $100 in value in UR points), $60 in Doordash credits (which can be used for pickups), and Priority Pass restaurants and spas (~$25/year in value on average, factoring in PP lounges being at capacity). In year 3, I will look at my savings to see if the CSR is still valuable, especially as the Lyft Pink membership and 10x on Lyft rides is expiring - I might downgrade to the CSP by then to keep the Chase transfer partners, especially if I plan to use my points for redemptions, rather than purchase long-haul flights with cash.
I remember seeing the Waldorf Astoria Park City all the time when I used to ski there once a year growing up. I knew it was a great hotel, but never knew it was one of the top hotels in the country until I learned more about credit cards
With the Chase Sapphire Reserve it makes it super easy to get a floor of 1.5C per redemption in anything travel through the portal. I feel like this isn't talked about enough. The convenience is key here. No homework or searching and searching for award space. Scheduling around when award space is available IF you find anything. With the CSR you get 1.5C no matter what whenever you want.
Problem is that by not price matching against booking direct or with another portal, you may end up paying a higher price, so you’re not really getting 1.5CPP. You’re getting 1.5CPP on Chase’s prices, but there may be better deals elsewhere. Also, booking through OTAs aren’t for everyone
☕️ this was the best all around travel card summary video. I would say there could be a lightweight and heavyweight airline and hotel card category though. The AA cards are pretty valuable
Sebby is sleeping on the CSR. convenience here is fantastic for earning, insurance on trips, travel credit for most of the annual fee, door dash and lyft pink. It has been a no Brainerd card for me where it is super easy to both earn and redeem at a really good rate. While technically it may not earn as much as say the Amex platinum, most of the CSR credits aren't monthly but annual. I don't need to shop outside of my norm or spend more money then I usually do in order to earn a bunch of points
Same here for me, especially since I don't own a car and am a heavy Lyft user. I just got the CSR, and I will have the annual fee covered with the $300 travel credit, $100 of value over the CSP from the Lyft Pink + 10x on rides, $100 over the CSP from the 3x on travel, and $60 in credits from Doordash. Add in the Priority Pass restaurants & spas (not available with Amex or Capital One), and the CSR will cover the annual fee in the first 2 years, as long as the Lyft Pink membership & partnership is around. I still have the Venture X, which is easy to justify as a keeper card even with the CSR. $300 travel portal credit and 10k anniversary miles with transfer partners means I'm earning roughly $80/year when keeping the card. The 2x on everyday spend is great for non-bonused categories, guaranteeing me at least a 3.7% return when factoring in TPG's estimate of 1.85 cents/mile for Capital One miles.
Meh, the CSR isn't really an earner once you're in the game pretty deeply. If you're working 2-5x categories, the CSR is easily beaten for spend, so it has to stand on the benefits which don't cover the $550 for most people. Anyway, it's easily below the VX even with the added difficulty's of VX's more difficult travel credit. With the VX you don't need to find another $250 worth of value "in order to earn a bunch of points" (and you get better base spend multiples than the CSR).
It’s is a great card and the 10x on hotel through their portal is nice. I don’t think most people get this card looking to use door dash and lift pink honestly. The cards largest selling point for me is the lounge access, if you travel enough and visit enough lounges the card pays for itself. As for the multipliers the only useful one is the 3x travel, almost every card in my wallet already provides 3-5x on dining. Then again I get all the lounge access from the venture X and I’m paid to keep the card🤷♂️ I also don’t find it too difficult to used the travel credit through the Cap1 portal, so convenience isn’t a problem for me.
☕️ So many choices! I need to think if I really want a Hilton card or go with VX. I’m planning on a big Japan/Hong Kong trip in 2 years. Building points with Amex plat
☕️ - business Amex gold, personal platinum and chase sapphire. - I am kinda stuck on a few things! Lol can’t keep everything straight. I need a business visa to compliment this package for things things that done take Amex
☕ Across the categories I'm using two winners, the Sapphire Preferred and Venture X. Everything else differs a bit due to bank and airline preference, but I can tell I've been in this hobby a bit since I at least have a card for every category.
I agree, I use my Citi custom Cash now for everything. My work horse car use the be the Chase Freedom Unlimited, its still a great card and I love it. To me though I feel like Chase is a bit too overrated. I got the Double Cash as my first Citi card and the Custom complements each other perfectly.
☕️ I would put CSR in heavyweight travel card and Chase United Club Card for airlines. Main reason is that you can unlock their super power: CSR - transfer to United and Hyatt for higher redemptions; CUC - lounge membership (bring family) and higher savings on flights than Delta Reserve.
dont't forget the sapphrie reserve provides you with up to 20k trip insurance, and 100k medical insurance when traveling. if you toss up ~100-150 annually as an insurance fee, suddenly the sapphire reserve starts punching pretty hard.
Completely agree with the BILT Mastercard. It's fine in theory, but I'm currently going after intro bonuses, so there's no reason for spending a Chase 5/24 slot on the BILT card
just from my perspective - good premium travel benefits like priority boarding free checked bag tsa pre check credit two united club one time passes every year and also primary CDW all for $95. CSP doesnt even offer tsa pre check credit. United Club infinite is a good choice too but unless yours active duty (which btw thank you for your service) the AF is really steep at $525 although it’s less than the CSR and the intro bonus is more than the CSR Tbh I was thinking of getting the club card too for the bonus. But I’m waiting for the right time when I know I’ll put 5k or more spend
☕FYI, some of the video bookmarks are off: - Airline Credit Card is at 5:58 but should be at 5:26 - Light Weight Travel Credit Card is waaaay off at 7:38, should be at 9:38
☕Love the Amex Platinum, my local airport only has an Escape lounge and they still allow a couple of guests free. I have the Cap One Venture and I hear they are already getting rid of the 2 annual Cap One lounge passes in 2025.
I know this is a taboo topic for many millennials, and that Sebastian is a Bay Area apartment dweller but the citi custom card is incredibly valuable as a homeowner. It is so hard to find good rewards cards for home improvement stores like homedepot and Lowe’s.
At least for me, I don’t travel that much to justify the CSR right now. The Amex platinum is more of a lifestyle card that does make it easier for me to use the credits in other areas and still get anywhere between $300 to $1,000 in net positive return after paying the $695 fee. Also achieved a retention bonus recently and am sitting on a nice amount of points.
☕️ can you make a video of how someone with great credit and great income would go about getting which cards first and how long it would take a normal person to reach your level of CCs with all the perks? The more I watch the more I want to keep applying to getting cards but don’t want to destroy my credit with 10 HI. I need a plan.
☕️Venture X free AUs with Priority Pass is 💪 but AMEX Platinum is the 👑 of travel cards IMO. Hilton Aspire is by far the best hotel card💪 Hard to beat that AMEX Gold 👑 Great video!🫵
☕️ Ritz-Carlton Maui this Christmas is how I'm using my 85K cert this year, so, Wrong!, it's not only off-season hotels. Waldorf-Astoria Maui is how I'm using my Hilton cert, and the cash price of both certs is just under $2,000 each.
i have a question about capital one savor credit cards i recently got approved for their excellent credit savor one with welcome bonus. is the uber partnership their 1st ever offer on this card? am asking because i would like to know if this is a rotation thing they do every 2 years or so and if they do renew their partnership or go with another partner do all card member get the new benefit or only new card member?
No one knows what they will do in the future. I hope they keep the Uber partnership because I use it a lot when I travel for work. When they added the Uber deal it went to existing card members so I would assume if they add something else it would be the same.
@@mjsabie8517 oh that’s good to know. Do you know if this is capital one first deal on this card? Prior to this partnership in 2022 did they have something else?
Are the rumors true - that Citi plans to launch a new Travel Card to compete with AmEx, Chase, and C1 ? I personally love my Citi Custom Cash cards (I have 2 of them) and my Double Cash card. I would love something better than the Premier to dump all my points onto!!
Sebby, I could use your help. I am debating between Marriott, IHG, and Hilton Middle tier card. Their sign up bonus look good right now, I was wondering if you think it would be best to go with hilton, or hyatt for long term. Previously I had amex platinum and had status bc of it, but had to downgrade for now and got the United card and hoping to complement it with a hotel card. Any suggestions? I usually stay in good (better than ok but not the best) hotels. I don't necessarily prefer one over the other. Just whatever gets the most benefits or makes more sense. Thanks in advance! or does it make a lot more sense to go with hilton Aspire?
Thank you! If I get Hilton Aspire, I wonder if I could status match to Marriott.. and what that would get me or if it would be best the other way around. @@AskSebby

@@AskSebby If both intro bonuses are 180,000 now, would it make more sense to just get the surpass, make the intro requirements and then upgrade later in the year when I am ready to travel? or you think it wouldnt matter?
Personally, I'm going with the IHG Premier. I don't care about status or staying in 5-star hotels/resorts, and Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express is a perfectly acceptable hotel for me to stay in on vacation. I just want a private room with a clean bed and shower with air conditioning, free wi-fi, and a refrigerator (if I am staying for more than a few days). If you are a "free agent" or not chasing elite status, the IHG Premier card can provide incredible value for the $99 annual fee. I plan on booking hotels for 4 weeks of vacation next year after applying for the card in late January 2024, and will be able to hit the $3,000 in minimum spend just by booking IHG properties. The current SUB is 140k points, and with just over $3000 in spend ($3077 to be exact), I would earn 80k points, netting me 220k points from the SUB + spend. With plenty of availability at the Holiday Inn properties at 20k points, I would get 11 free nights from the SUB. The real cherry on top is the 4th free night on redemptions of 3 nights (buy 3 get 1 free), essentially getting me 3 extra nights from the SUB. This nets me 2 whole weeks of hotel stays in the future from under $3200 in spend (if you include the $99 annual fee). Best of all, the IHG Premier comes with an anniversary free night worth up to 40k points ($200), so even after the SUB, the card provides value. If you fly United at all, the card comes with $50 in United Travel Bank cash each year ($25 every 6 months), which can be used when booking a flight directly through United Airlines.
Why do all the credit cards have the credits that we don’t use I don’t do Uber I don’t do any of the eating places that you mentioned We don’t work out So yes the none fee ones will work I only travel once a year for 2 months over seas to Italy and Ireland
☕️ LOL, this whole video is confirmation bias for me, I have all of the winners and runners up save for the United Quest, CSP and Venture (and I had a Venture once before it turned into a VentureX). I think the Delta Gold gets slept on a bit, 15% off award flights can be pretty valuable, no annual fee in year one, downgrade path to a Blue. But hard to disagree with anything.
I was denied fke both the USB Altitude Reserve, and Venture X. Thought i had gardened enough.... nope! Guess I'll garden for another 6 months. Edit: ☕️
If Capital One adds more lounge, then without a doubt Venture X. Essentially, it is $95 for 10K pts, Capital One lounge (no coverage so not worth mentioning), and priority pass for 4 people (only valuable overseas) Amex Platinum: Centurion Lounge + Delta Skyclubs (great coverage), CLEAR. Just counting airline, Uber, and Hotel credit, we are at $95. Not to mention the Hulu, Saks. Maybe downside is no AUs nowadays. But I rather pay for a card that does something, rather than pay nothing and get nothing.
As good as the Venture X seems, I won't be able to use their transfer partners in the near future so I have to pass on the Capital One trio. I am going for the CIP and Platinum in 2024.

☕ Across the categories I'm using two winners, the Sapphire Preferred and Venture X. Everything else differs a bit due to bank and airline preference, but I can tell I've been in this hobby a bit since I at least have a card for every category.
Autograph would top savor one for me. But i agree with mostly everything!
☕Amex and Capital One fills most of our categories.
☕️ some great picks. What would you say about closing the SW card if your player 2 goes for that over holding it?
☕️ Great card walkthrough! Thanks Sebby!
Gimme the link for that coffee cup at the end of the video pls! ☕️
☕️ looking at the united Quest card for sure
Completely agree with the BILT Mastercard. It's fine in theory, but I'm currently going after intro bonuses, so there's no reason for spending a Chase 5/24 slot on the BILT card
My two personal favorite travel cards
- Wells Fargo autograph
- United Mileageplus Explorer
Why Explorer? I'm thinking about maybe getting Club. I had Explorer, but downgraded to Gateway.
just from my perspective
- good premium travel benefits like priority boarding free checked bag tsa pre check credit two united club one time passes every year and also primary CDW all for $95. CSP doesnt even offer tsa pre check credit.
United Club infinite is a good choice too but unless yours active duty (which btw thank you for your service) the AF is really steep at $525 although it’s less than the CSR and the intro bonus is more than the CSR
Tbh I was thinking of getting the club card too for the bonus. But I’m waiting for the right time when I know I’ll put 5k or more spend
☕️ was the Ritz card barred from consideration as it’s no longer available to applicants? Or it just wasn’t as good as the Bonvoy Brilliant?
I’m guessing because you can’t outright apply for it
Ritz is great, but not widely available to everyone.
CSR Vx Plat AR
Those are all great but no need to have multiple of them imo
☕️ have heard of a new Amex p. annual fee fee going above the $695?
☕FYI, some of the video bookmarks are off:
- Airline Credit Card is at 5:58 but should be at 5:26
- Light Weight Travel Credit Card is waaaay off at 7:38, should be at 9:38
☕Love the Amex Platinum, my local airport only has an Escape lounge and they still allow a couple of guests free.
Ah, some good Sebby content. 😊
Hi, what is better betting 5% cash back on gas or 10 cents off per gallon ?
☕️ can you make a video of how someone with great credit and great income would go about getting which cards first and how long it would take a normal person to reach your level of CCs with all the perks? The more I watch the more I want to keep applying to getting cards but don’t want to destroy my credit with 10 HI. I need a plan.
☕️Venture X free AUs with Priority Pass is 💪 but AMEX Platinum is the 👑 of travel cards IMO.
Hilton Aspire is by far the best hotel card💪
Hard to beat that AMEX Gold 👑
Great video!🫵
Proud Venture X holder since March 2022. God knows how much money it has saved me and how many doors it has opened for me around the world.
@@newagain9964 Do your research. Lots of arbitrage in this card ❤️
☕I ended up keeping CSR, Venture X and MS Platinum all three. I'm lucky enough to be able to get positive expected values out of all 3 cards.
Awesome!
I have the CSP and the platinum. Team travel!
Lets go Sebb!! Top 10!!!
🙌
Venture X ftw, my work horse card.
Good video, gave me a couple of ideas for my next card. ☕
Just got Amex Platinum for 150k/8k. Not great but It's only for a year
☕️ Ritz-Carlton Maui this Christmas is how I'm using my 85K cert this year, so, Wrong!, it's not only off-season hotels.
My head is spinning. I wish i could keep "Shelby" in my pocket and my travel agent!
Are the rumors true - that Citi plans to launch a new Travel Card to compete with AmEx, Chase, and C1 ? I personally love my Citi Custom Cash cards (I have 2 of them) and my Double Cash card. I would love something better than the Premier to dump all my points onto!!
Haven't heard any updates yet 🤷♂️
☕️ just got Venture X and will see how the value adds up
Sebby, I could use your help.
I lean towards the Hilton Aspire and Marriott Brilliant due to automatic top tier status. I value the lounge access and free breakfast. YMMV.
Thank you! If I get Hilton Aspire, I wonder if I could status match to Marriott.. and what that would get me or if it would be best the other way around. @@AskSebby
PLAT AND VX! That’s it
I ate so much Sunday ice cream in this video ☕️
Gummy bears on your sundae? I’m starting to question Sebby’s taste.
great video
Why do all the credit cards have the credits that we don’t use
I don’t do Uber I don’t do any of the eating places that you mentioned
We don’t work out
So yes the none fee ones will work
I only travel once a year for 2 months over seas to Italy and Ireland
If you only travel once a year then go with cash back cards
If you only travel once a year then go with cash back cards
i love credit cards now that i know how to play the game ☕️
☕️ Team Ritz card + CSP over here :)
☕ thanks Sebby!
cool video
Sebby is it true Venture X no longer gives Priority Pass to AUs?!
When was this?
@@alexthai5223 It appears to have been sometime in the last month or so, but I'm not certain
Got approved for the VentureX last week and I'm still really excited over it lol. Glad such an expert still thinks it deserves the top spot. ☕☕
☕☕☕
☕️ LOL, this whole video is confirmation bias for me, I have all of the winners and runners up save for the United Quest, CSP and Venture (and I had a Venture once before it turned into a VentureX).
I think the Delta Gold gets slept on a bit, 15% off award flights can be pretty valuable, no annual fee in year one, downgrade path to a Blue. But hard to disagree with anything.
The only reason I have the venture x is the Signup and the priority pass.
Its a keeper
Coffee cup
excited to see if WF can beat the Venture X in 2024
Was sup sebby !!!
Hellooo!
☕️ why did the Ritz didn’t win???
Not widely available to everyone.
☕Happy Holidays☕
Happy holidays to you too! :)
W Bilt Mastercard.
I was denied fke both the USB Altitude Reserve, and Venture X. Thought i had gardened enough.... nope! Guess I'll garden for another 6 months.
Edit: ☕️
:(
☕️
Great! Amex credits for restaurants nobody's ever heard of!
☕
Hot take. The Amex green card is my favorite and my most used. Green imo is 10x better than gold.
If Capital One adds more lounge, then without a doubt Venture X. Essentially, it is $95 for 10K pts, Capital One lounge (no coverage so not worth mentioning), and priority pass for 4 people (only valuable overseas)
Amex Platinum: Centurion Lounge + Delta Skyclubs (great coverage), CLEAR.
☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️
Can you only have 1 sign up bonus from chase at a time???
First ?
🥇
"Like" if Love Tacos! 🌮 Good video Sebby!
Squuuuuuuuuuad
🙌
Perhaps not show raw meat when talking about restaurants? I’m not a vegetarian but I think you can do better than this!
☕☕☕ Shake Shack is also my preferred way to use the Gold credit. Good stuff! Very helpful line up of cards!
