Walmart is actually a pretty legit sleeper credit. Having a kid who like all the Nickelodeon kid shows on paramount + (included with Walmart plus) and the 10 cents off gas is huge. I have a car and have an Exxon like 1 mile from the house otw to work so those two together is a very nice to have. Platinum is a sleeper streaming card with paramount. I get Hulu bundle with my digital credit and my wife gets peacock with hers and that’s pretty much our cable bill.
I’ve had the platinum for 4 years. This is the first year where I used all the credits. My friend goes to equinox and I just paid for one of the months of his gym membership as a gift.
I finally used the current $50 Saks credit. I couldn’t find anything less than $100 that I needed so I got 3 small bars of soap for $45 including taxes and fees. Well, it’s free lol.
1. I use the Delta Reserve which is still Amex but with benefits more align with me. 2. My favorite benefit is the Priority Pass that I don't have with the Delta Reserve. 3. Maybe next year I'll get it
Delta Reserve is outrageous in the value you get back before you even use the companion pass if you can use the Resy credit (for me gift cards at Stoney River steakhouse) and the Uber credit (make a family plan and have the family member make a charge on the Reserve. Uber Eats is coded as Uber so $10 free meal every month).
Just got the Plat with 150k with 8k spend. Showed up when I logged into my High Yield Savings Acct. sad that no 3x on restaurants but got Costco card for that.
I opened my platinum card this year 2024 in April, if I wanted to play the downgrade/upgrade option to the green and back to the plat, how would that work?
The only appeal to me is the effective 10% return on spend with directly purchased airfare. But my next best card provides 4% return on spend, so I've done the math on how much I'd have to spend to make the additional 6% return worth the annual fee, and it's a lot, even after the subsidy from Schwab. So I haven't jumped on getting the card. Also, I think I'm in PUJ.
With January you can’t triple dip though, or? Just get the credits for 2 years. Asking since I am looking to get the platinum but not sure if December is a too early. Still working on a signup bonus for another 2 months
In PUJ and Amex knows I want that juicy 175k points. Instead they gave me a 100k upgrade on my gold for 6k spend. Nah, and yes I plan on applying next December 🤞
@@AskSebby just 50k pts for $2k in 6 months. Nothing huge but an easy free biz class using transfer partners and transfer bonuses. Enough time to cash in on the United Travel Bank and FHR credit now and January 🤔🤷🏽
Can you hold more than 1 Platinum card if you already have the original Platinum could you get the Schwab Platinum? I know you can't get the bonus but was curious if you can still hold the 2 cards at the same time.
Great video Sebby. Quick question, the Schawb version is offering 125K intro bonus. I have accounts with them already. Is this a better card than the regular one let’s say with a 150K intro bonus? I am leaning towards the Schawb… any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks
I currently have an AMEX Plat (Vanilla). I'm thinking of opening a Charles Schwab version of the AMEX Plat soon in it's place. Hoping to qualify for the SUP, do you recommend closing the vanilla one first before applying? I got the ineligible for SUP pop-up when I applied for vanilla (Not sure why).
The Schwab branded Amex Platinum is considered a different card when it comes to some things, like the sign up bonus offer. You received the message that you were not eligible when you checked for the vanilla because like you said it’s once in a lifetime and you already have a vanilla. Schwab Platinum Amex should still allow you to get its sign up bonus, but they are nowhere near as high as the vanilla bonus. I have the Schwab, which requires that I have a Schwab brokerage checking account, making the Amex MR points redeemed for brokerage $ at 1.1 cents/point really cool in my opinion. You do not have to cancel your vanilla first, but there is not a good reason to keep both (that I can think of) so just make sure to cancel it before the next annual fee is due. Hope this helps
So, what is the exact December dates to optimize the membership? Does signing up any time between December 10-31 work to get the grace month in year 3? So December 31, will grace month until January 31 in year 3?
Recently applied and received a $150k offer, but I'm hesitant to accept it. Does anyone know if they’ll do a hard credit inquiry, even if I already have another card with them (I currently have an Amex Gold)? I'm concerned that opening a new card might impact my credit and affect my ability to secure a loan for a house I'm planning to purchase.
📆 Do you know if levels of spend affect chances for upgrade offers? Recently cancelled my plat while keeping my gold after 3 years but I've been putting more of my spend on Chase and Cap 1 instead of Amex
Yes, this is the US Amex Platinum card, so it makes sense that the credits are mostly US based. Amex has country specific Amex Platinum cards and benefits.
📅 Do you have 30 days after the annual fee post or 30 days on your anniversary day? My statement post on the 20th and my anniversary is on the 23rd of November. My annual fee usually post on the Dec statement.

Just got approved for the platinum card with a 150,000 point sign up bonus!
📆In the December case, using those annual credits quickly would stress me out. But a great video! Thanks Sebby
Might be too close for some people 😅
Plat 5yr cst. I use Uber, Digital, Saks, CLEAR & Equinox+ credits as well as Hilton Gold and car rental status.
Nice!

I often purchase travel size fragrances e.g Tom Ford around 50 dollars.
I usually buy sunscreen with the Saks credits.
my wife would get cosmetics. get a female friend on board with it every 6 months.
You can always get 50 dollar gift cards. I have a bunch and give them as gifts during the holidays.
It's not "free". You prepaid it through the annual fee.

pair the Reserve with VX or Chase RC for PP

If ive never had a charge card from Amex yet, is it still wise to get the platinum first before the gold because of the once in a life time bonus??
do it the other way
Just got the Plat with 150k with 8k spend. Showed up when I logged into my High Yield Savings Acct. sad that no 3x on restaurants but got Costco card for that.
seb! any news on when amex plan to refresh business platinum card benefits?
I already have the platinum but I saw 175k sub too two weeks ago.
If the USA had a high-speed train system I'd totally get the business card.
Assuming it would be rewards eligible
Heh, if only...
I had equinox my first year with a steep corporate discount, it was sooo perfect. Now trying to decide if I should go for year 3 with platinum

*I got $35 Uber cash this December. Why?*
Yes, you're supposed to get $35 in Dec. It's mentioned in the terms.
12:52 i thought the gold card did too? Or is it just for lost/stolen items?
I’m worried about the timing. Will the hotel and airline credit be posted in time before closing the card within the grace period?
I would use it sooner rather than later if you're worried about timing.
December or January are both good.
With January you can’t triple dip though, or? Just get the credits for 2 years.

Does this rule still apply for Gold as well? As in getting getting now 2024 (early-mid Dec) and then plat upgrade 2025
Yes
I cancelled my Platty in July. Now they're tempting me with an upgrade offer on my gold to Platty after the AF just hit. They suck you right back in.
👀 what’s the upgrade offer?

@@x1928mines the same. Tempting but lower AF on gold plus way better multipliers makes me want to keep gold.

Yes. I briefly held the vanilla and Schwab platinum cards. I ultimately closed the vanilla and kept the Schwab but I did hold both at once.
Yes, I have both.
Can you use the credits for flights in 2025 if you sign up in December 2024?

Assume you apply for the card on December 10, 2024, do you have to use the hotel credit for booking or hotel stay by end of 2024? Thanks
Yes, just has to be the hotel booking.
Is the start date when you apply or is it when you receive and register the card?

Haven't seen data points on that. There does seem to be some correlation regarding spend and retention offers (but even that's a bit iffy).
