cam I just want to tell you I am 16 and I have been shooting a compound bow since I was 8 I actually had to teach my dad how to shoot a compound bow I just want to let you know that you inspire me to push myself when I hunt and I shoot at longer ranges my longest shot has probably been 60 yards and the only reason why is because you have inspired me to push myself so I just want to thank you
I've been shooting bows since I was old enough to hold one, but only in the last few years have I really gotten into trying to become a better archer and bowhunter. I've spent at least the last two-three years pouring over as much content as I could (TH-cam, books, podcasts, etc.) to learn as much as I could. Somehow, I only just recently came upon your content and in that short amount of time I've learned so much more about what I can implement in how I shoot, what I shoot, and how to hunt. I appreciate the videography being so clear and concise through your videos; more than anything, I've learned more just being able to watch and pick apart your technique, basically trying to reverse engineer it. Thank you for creating such clear and informative content. There's always something new for us all to learn. Thanks!
I doubt you still look at older posts like this but you are the reason I caught an interest in bow hunting and last year I picked up my first bow and been really practicing and working distance out to 70 yds and tonight it paid off. First kill ever with my bow at 57 yards! Just want to say thank you for all of your videos you have posted and keep hammering!
These are probably some of the best tips on accuracy you can get from one of the most inspirational people in the archery world This guy changed my life and I dont even know him! Lift-run-shoot
I've been shooting a compound bow for less than a month and I shoot at 30-50 yards. Don't plan on hunting till at Least next year tho. Just take a step back after every shot and you'll find a new comfort zone.
Ok never heard of you until now. Have to say I'm impressed. watched alot of your videos and you seem very dedicated and it pays off. Im just now getting into compound bows and i'm picking up my bowtech prodigy today same sight as you but mine is a two pin. keep shooting and training and thanks for the inspiration.
I'm just getting started on being more accurate and I'm learning as I go . One thing I found out not to do is leave your jaw open . Its hard to space your mandibular jaw in the exact spot every time . Your jaw acts like a hinge and it pivots from the temporomandibular joint . When your teeth are not making contact your jaw can move right or left and If your teeth are not in contact because your jaw is a hinge the angle changes and it causes your anchor point to move according to have far open your mouth is .So If your shooting left or right over far distances and your jaw is not completely closed like it is in this video , your hand can move your jaw to the left enough to cause your arrow to be off. Notice next time you shoot with your mouth open as in this video if your moving your jaw when you put your thumb against your open floating jaw. then try closing it and make contact with your teeth to lock the jaw movement in place so the anchor point stays exactly the same every time . This was one of the first thing I was taught to do. as far as anchor points go.
I am glad to see, Cam has his sight off to the side too. I thought here was something wrong with my bow :) Cam you inspired me to get a bow after wanting one for over 20 years. Thanks now I have a Spyder Turbo, but with Trijicon Accupin sight and a QAD HDX rest. I love this bow, fast but so accurate, even for a beginner. Thanks man, Keep on Hammering Dude ;)
You are a beast, man, You inspire me to do better an several aspects of life every time I watch one of your videos. Some people might try to critique this or that but I can tell ya, I have seen you take several trophy animals and you perform under pressure as well as anyone I have seen. When you pulled the sheep back off the cliff on ice...….. Beast! I really appreciate getting to watch the older videos with Roy too, he really seemed like a genuine person and your friend, sorry for that lose brother.
Hey this was pretty helpful as a new archer for me Cam. I realized that my grip was the reason I was shooting left. The part where you go over your grip helped me a lot. Just shot 4 bullseyes at 30 yards. Keep it up.
You have to spend the time behind the bow if you want to shoot with the best. You are the first person to agree with me that you should shoot farther in practice than hunting it will build up your confidence in you equipment. Thanks for the tips on set up
Preach it brother. I'm gonna practice some long shots like that to build my midwest whitetail confidence which is only 40 yards max currently with my mathews dren. I backed it down to 63 lbs and lost some speed. Think I'm gonna go back to 70 based on the fact your shooting 80!
i wanted to leave a comment about issues with carpel tunnel and a pinched nerve which i recently had surgery which was really effecting my steadiness...all is good expect the rehab which is what it is...never the less..i have been studying Cam's technique ever since i got really into archery....before the surgery i was pulling 65 lbs....not really sure where i am at now....i am busting my ass to get back to 65 lbs....my goal is 80 lbs.....keep hammering....
Cameron...used to work night shift CCU with another male nurse, great friend of mine, ex-Marine, loyal friend...you could be his twin brother from a different mother...same voice, build, positive attitude, cocky grin...thanks for all of your videos, tips, etc...your enthusiasm for the sport, life, is so contagious...do you ever work with disabled kids? So many who would love to take up this sport, if it is only for target shooting. You'd be a great inspiration/mentor to kids who are challenged but want to have the chance at a sport like archery like any other kid growing up...just a thought...
also I wanted to thank you for the tips because they've helped me to be more consistent and accurate at those longer ranges because before I was not very consistent at more than 30 yrds
Gotta love the jackasses on here leaving comments giving this guy advice. He's the best shooter I've ever seen at those distances, I have trouble making a good 200yrd shot with my rifle n he's reaching out almost as far with his bow! Unbelievable... Me an my Hoyt r happy at 60yrds and under but would love skills like this guys got. Also Wish I had the time n place to b able to shoot everyday to! Not getting that level of good without shit tons of practice.
6:04 Camera guy trying to focus Archer puts his finger in the shot Camera guy gives up adjustment Archer takes finger out of shot Camera guy again tries to zoom in on the sight Archer puts his finger back in the shot AGAIN ::repeat x3:: Camera guy tries one last time to focus for the viewer at home to see And for some reason the archer puts his finger back in the close up frame of the bowstring almost as the camera guy got the lense to focus at that rate of zoom, for some reason thinking at such a close shot that’s been on the screen since around 6 minutes into the film, that we need it to be pointed at even though there’s nothing else on screen besides the bow string (well, except for the finger again making it go out of focus focusing on the closer finger rather than the further sight of the bowstring...) All I’m imagining is the camera guy in the room trying to edit that part of the scene and bashing his head on the table. Seemed like an important scene in a great overall video, but we never got to see the sight itself at the moment it’s referenced because of all that over a tiny little thing the camera should’ve been able to get.
the farthest I've ever shot was 110 yards accurately but I was shooting a 1994 Hoyt Flashpoint FastFlite at 96 lbs of draw weight and an Easton 2317 at 29" with a 125 grain field point, deadly accurate but unfortunately it was very heavy and I got older, I like your videos Cam, you're an honest shooter keep up the great videos
Absolutely not questioning your accuracy, but it would've been cool for you to drive down and show us just how close to the kill zone your shots were. Very impressive! Oh, and thanks for walking us through your anchoring system. I've been playing with mine to get more consistent, doing pretty good out to 80 so far.
your awesome Cameron, I like your unusual long shots, I am gonna be making these shots one day, I love how you explain a lot about what you doing in your videos your not like everyone else that says it just happens.
My bow is tuned 'money' also and my sight is to the left. I feel your pain. I'm shooting a PSE, 33" axle - axle (long axle like you like), EC2 cams, 57 pounds, 90% let off...
the sight being to the left is due to riser flex. when you draw, especially at 80 pounds, your riser flexes as your cable guard pulls on the cables and bends the riser in. so at the shot when your bow unflexes, the string jumps left along with the arrow. the offset of the sight compensates for that
wow man I just moved here to eugene and want to become a great archer and bow hunter, I plan to scout a ton this summer and just get my cheap setup dialed in lol.
I got a Spot Hogg Fast Eddie last Friday. I was really excited to hit the range and start shooting 100yrds. ripped two fletch off arrows before I figured out they were hitting my sight lol
Well said... if you can hit the kill zone at 180 yds with a few minutes to get prepped / settled, easy (no hiking, climbing, stalking) breath control, etc.... then under the much more rigorous and tense hunting situation, 60-80 yds is doable.
Truglo versa peep, no inserts, so 1/4" otherwise I can't see the outside housing on my sight. I am getting an extension for my sight to be further out like Cam's. then probably smaller :) why you ask?
do you know if this type of sight can be made with a retina lock Cam??? I have a multi pin sight now but gets blurry and confusing on long distance shots 60+. If not could you use your influence to make it happen, please a big Cam Fan, Native hunter. ps you just taught me a new distance with the 160&175 marks wow #CAMKNOWSBOWS, LOL
That pin being farther away is going to move more with your arm movement, but, just like on a rifle, the longer the sight, the more accurate it will be.
Lol I live in Springfield Oregon just yesterday I got a new bow at bowteck it's the "boss" and I love it and I've been at the bow rack as well but it's a small shop but I love the valley on my bow it's way nicer than my last one
I’m actually thinking about flying to Oregon from Anchorage Alaska to get my next bow purchased, tuned and fully set up. The pro shop here in Anchorage can not answer questions with out getting offended.
Practice makes perfect, and i was wondering how you managed 180yards on that sight without touching arrows. i will be doing that to my sight also, i have only been shooting 100yards but i want to keep pushing it and practicing more and more. thanks for the tips, keep up the good work.
Considering using 2 leaf springs and steel cable on a large crossbow with smaller hoist as a crank mech..just an overkill project but yeah itd be unique.👊😎🇺🇸 great video thanks
Hey Cam. Nice video. I'll tell you why your bow sets up with your sight to the left. It's because the cable guard is pulling to the right, so you have to offset that force.
I wonder how you can see so far???...are you using any magnifying glass on your sight?( because of course, without comparing myself with you at all, but it is really hard at least for me shot a small target beyond 60 yards-hard to see it to aim I mean...)...
Hey cam can you please please make a video of how you set up the hog father sight to shoot with details for the tape on the side? I just bought a spot hog hog father single pin sight and I have no idea how to set up the yardage tape on the side. Thanks man
I never seen anyone shoot like that before. It’s incredible. Do you think practicing strictly with broadbeadss, like you would on a hunt , is the best way to go? As far as trying to shoot your best
Cameron, I know you are at 80 pounds all the time, what happens if you were to go to 70, how much does your pitch change? You've also said at 80 pounds, 300 feet /second. At 70, would it be 270 /s? Ps: I thought this type of distance was only in the movies, great work. Lastly in another video, can you suggest muscle building and stretching exercises for bow conditioning? Thanks 👍🏼
I got the idea to use a brass nock as a kisser from cam and it worked good until I got a nice gash on my lip , I don’t know if the string stretched and it spun around but I ripped it off right away and just learned to shoot without it
I don't know if it was the camera angle or what but when you were showing your grip hand on the bow it looked like a quarter of an inch away from the target tip. If I shot that with a broadhead I'd probably rip a knuckle open lol
Good day sir. I look forward to all your videos. I have a question. I am comfortable out to 60yds. I will be hunting mule deer for my second season. I shoot 70# with a 26" draw. My question is. What is a good hunting arrow weight? My bow is rated at 332 fps. I know I'm nowhere near that. Just want to know what you would recommend. Thank you. Have a great evening.
Cameron, I was told a person should shoot a bow with both eyes open do you shoot with both eyes open? Thanks for the great information you provide....by chance have you ever shot indoor 3D competition?
I would like to see you do what you do hunting with traditional gear. Talk about leveling the playing field. I want to see you do this. I am sure you can. Thanks, and good videos.
hello sir, please do me a favor and put an end to those who doubted you and your shooting at that distance, so next time you should put a lumenok onto your arrows and it'll light the path to the target..great shooting sir, love your video and your shooting is insane ...
that camera trying to focus was out of its confort zone
"Comfort" says grammar nazis
@@fenf777 we have the same humor
cam I just want to tell you I am 16 and I have been shooting a compound bow since I was 8 I actually had to teach my dad how to shoot a compound bow I just want to let you know that you inspire me to push myself when I hunt and I shoot at longer ranges my longest shot has probably been 60 yards and the only reason why is because you have inspired me to push myself so I just want to thank you
Bill Haas you’re 22 now then right. A year younger than me. How are you shooting now? Must be doing it well.

40 yards is out of my comfort zone
Then you need to practice

Timmeh2Buck I know its stupid to shoot any further than 40 yards.
Right
Practice at 60, then your 40 is a cake walk🤘🏼
I could listen to this guy ramble about bow hunting for days
Just got my first compound bow and your videos are great! Thanks Cam!
Grateful there are people out there like you I can learn from. I appreciate what you do. Sorry for the loss of your best friend.
So back in the days there were legendary archers like cam. That is amazing.
There's not a better presentation out there for what it was... Very informative and easy to understand.
Ok never heard of you until now. Have to say I'm impressed. watched alot of your videos and you seem very dedicated and it pays off. Im just now getting into compound bows and i'm picking up my bowtech prodigy today same sight as you but mine is a two pin. keep shooting and training and thanks for the inspiration.
you should do a video on single pin vs multiple pin sights!
Your a beauty. Love watching you videos and your respect and knowledge of the game.
Keep Hammering

Badass video. Cam, your videos are encouraging brother!
I always come back to your videos for refresher tips. Great job.. Thank you.
I would like to say cam excellent shot and extremely inspiring great person to look up to.
Love the tips man much respect mate
dude i listened to your podcast this AM its amazing. changed my life

Great tips. I really appreciate the fact that you're such an excellent sportsman and athlete, but your manner is very direct and unassuming.
Any Pro Shop who doesn't tie in peeps aren't a pro shop in my opinion. I can't stand that.
Josh Mathis aka cabelas
Papa Spanky haha no shit dude I need to get my damn peep sight reset and tied in
Learn to tie your own, come on guys it ain’t that hard to do.
Holy smokes! I didn't even know that range was possible. Nice shooting!!!
Preach it brother. I'm gonna practice some long shots like that to build my midwest whitetail confidence which is only 40 yards max currently with my mathews dren. I backed it down to 63 lbs and lost some speed. Think I'm gonna go back to 70 based on the fact your shooting 80!

Letting up with 90lbs, my shoulder would end up 20yd down range hahaha

2wheelobsessed If you have trouble making a shot at 200 yards with a hunting rifle, you need to hit the range more often.
+SeriouslySharp If you critique people on youtube, you need to... Wait nevermind that's what I'm doing.
The cam Hanes white knights are hilarious
Been watching your videos about to buy my first bow and just now find out you're a fellow oregonian.
Damn I didn't know he was in oregon. I wonder what part. Im I'm prineville over by bend.

Camera guy trying to focus
Archer puts his finger in the shot
Camera guy gives up adjustment
Archer takes finger out of shot
Camera guy again tries to zoom in on the sight
Archer puts his finger back in the shot AGAIN
::repeat x3::
Camera guy tries one last time to focus for the viewer at home to see
And for some reason the archer puts his finger back in the close up frame of the bowstring almost as the camera guy got the lense to focus at that rate of zoom, for some reason thinking at such a close shot that’s been on the screen since around 6 minutes into the film, that we need it to be pointed at even though there’s nothing else on screen besides the bow string (well, except for the finger again making it go out of focus focusing on the closer finger rather than the further sight of the bowstring...)

My bow is tuned 'money' also and my sight is to the left. I feel your pain. I'm shooting a PSE, 33" axle - axle (long axle like you like), EC2 cams, 57 pounds, 90% let off...
Excellent Philosophy, yeah I hit subscribe at 180!
the sight being to the left is due to riser flex. when you draw, especially at 80 pounds, your riser flexes as your cable guard pulls on the cables and bends the riser in. so at the shot when your bow unflexes, the string jumps left along with the arrow. the offset of the sight compensates for that

The pull to the left is actually from bow torque at full draw.
I met this guy at the Alaska Bowhunters banquet one time. Super cool dude. Humble and really easy to talk to. Kinda not awesome anymore. Oh well!
Cam is such a beast. My gf hates the man crush I have on this dude
I just completed my beginners course and you shoot a tighter group at 160 yards with your compound than I do at 20 with a recurve! Damn!
Truglo versa peep, no inserts, so 1/4" otherwise I can't see the outside housing on my sight. I am getting an extension for my sight to be further out like Cam's. then probably smaller :) why you ask?
Pins are to the left because of riser torque. At full draw it'll line up - pretty common these days.
i have always wondered how you get 180 on your bow sight...thanks .. great vid cam
great videos I have 1 question on the full metal jacket arrows you use do you know about crossbows and if so would these arrows be effective? thanks
I think I'm gonna grab a few of these sights for my bows. Been meaning to get a 7 pin.
Five times County (UK) Champion here, shooting Clout at 180 yards. Mind you, I was aiming at a 30 ft circle of grass, with a bullseye 5 feet across!
This guy sounds like Hoot from Black Hawk Down
It ain't up to you. It's just war.
Well?..... Shall we?....
"Cam, why do you do what you do? You some kinda buck junky? It's about the fella next to ya."
No distance down range of this man is safe. Beast
Love that UA shirt. Where did you get it?
do you know if this type of sight can be made with a retina lock Cam??? I have a multi pin sight now but gets blurry and confusing on long distance shots 60+. If not could you use your influence to make it happen, please a big Cam Fan, Native hunter. ps you just taught me a new distance with the 160&175 marks wow #CAMKNOWSBOWS, LOL
That pin being farther away is going to move more with your arm movement, but, just like on a rifle, the longer the sight, the more accurate it will be.
Nice bow Rack shout out... They are pretty cool in there.. Nice shooting too. Go Blacktails!!!!!
I thought you're praying the whole time youre drawing. Now i know you just feeling your kisser
Hey Cam, could you try using a luminock so we can see your arrows flight pattern. Thx bro dig your videos.
+*** Mr. “nocknload” Baby *** yea he should try that would make a nice video at dusk.
Practice makes perfect, and i was wondering how you managed 180yards on that sight without touching arrows. i will be doing that to my sight also, i have only been shooting 100yards but i want to keep pushing it and practicing more and more. thanks for the tips, keep up the good work.
Cam are you using a magnifier lens? If so do you also apply that out in the field when hunting?
Considering using 2 leaf springs and steel cable on a large crossbow with smaller hoist as a crank mech..just an overkill project but yeah itd be unique.👊😎🇺🇸 great video thanks
Incredible shooting friend. Love the sticker on your bow. Fear IS a liar. Where did you get it?
Hey Cam.
This is awesome . Where have I been ?
Hey cam can you please please make a video of how you set up the hog father sight to shoot with details for the tape on the side? I just bought a spot hog hog father single pin sight and I have no idea how to set up the yardage tape on the side. Thanks man
I never seen anyone shoot like that before. It’s incredible. Do you think practicing strictly with broadbeadss, like you would on a hunt , is the best way to go? As far as trying to shoot your best
Take you for the tips me and my son talk about you and your shooting thanks.
Thanks 👍🏼
nice range. I have own 25m, and 50m indoor ranges and a 125m outdoor range.
Do you release with a pull of the finger or do you pull your arm/ shoulder back holding the finger firm?
Dew claw archery is a great place in medford plus they have the techno hunt lane which is freaking awsome
What magnification lens do you have to use at that distance?
Hey cam!! What site are you using in this video?
I got the idea to use a brass nock as a kisser from cam and it worked good until I got a nice gash on my lip , I don’t know if the string stretched and it spun around but I ripped it off right away and just learned to shoot without it
What power scope are you using in that setup cam? do you use a clarifier peep? same exact setup for hunting?
I don't know if it was the camera angle or what but when you were showing your grip hand on the bow it looked like a quarter of an inch away from the target tip. If I shot that with a broadhead I'd probably rip a knuckle open lol
What kind of site do you use/recommend
I don't really want to get out of my comfort zone because I will lose arrows and cant afford new ones
Walmart my guy haha
Great video man thanks 🙏
Great shhot!!
What do you think about whisker biscuit ?
+Asys1985 testing has shown that even at 60 yards, a drop away rest is only slightly more accurate. Less than a quarter of an inch.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Your an awesome shot. I wish I could shoot like you.
A 400 grain arrow
thx man very big help!
I'm going for moose in Alaska
Nice shooting Cam! What size pin do you use? A magnifier? Thanks
Do you have a tip for steadying your aim?
L.J. Pierce, cam pulls about 80 pounds and around 300 fps, watch his other vids and you can see his setup, which is so sweeeeeeet :)
hello sir, please do me a favor and put an end to those who doubted you and your shooting at that distance, so next time you should put a lumenok onto your arrows and it'll light the path to the target..great shooting sir, love your video and your shooting is insane ...
