    Great to see Giulio active on TH-cam again! I was a big fan back in the SmallCameraBigPicture days. Figured you had to get serious and make some cash as a photog because TH-cam wasn’t paying too much in those days. Agreed the GM1 is awesome (I gave mine to my daughter). The G85 rules and is almost perfect, and the EM1 ii is still an amazing camera, especially with the new firmware AF updates. A great choice for a desert island camera for sure!

    Absolutely great video Ben, thank you! I am considering to get an Olympus EM1 mark II. I love my G85, and this Oly seems a better G85: phase detection AF, dual SD slots, 20MP, better IBIS, better battery life, log, headphones jack for monitoring your audio, etc. A lot of improvements in a very similar body size.

    • @b3naqua
      @b3naqua  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! The EM1 mkII is a big step up from the G85 imo. Also highly recommend the G9 over the G85 for much better autofocus and other features.

    Went to a store intending to buy the GH5, albeit it was not for me. The weight distribution made it tilt to the left and the grip was chunky but just not deep enough.
    Then I held the OM-D 1ii to in my hands. Instant love.
    It's a shame, really, I wanted those GH5 video features but I couldn't imagine holding it and still enjoy taking photos for a longer period of time. Same with the G9 and the GH5s.
    Something i want to mention is that the Oly slightly faster (higher fps and shorter time between hitting the button and taking the shot. She's a wonderful snappy beast!)

    • @b3naqua
      @b3naqua  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to know about the Oly! It really does feel nice in the hands. And you have a great point - sometimes design, usability, and ergonomics are more important than the camera’s multitude of internal features. If a camera feels good to use and is inspiring in design, I‘ll typically be more motivated to go out and shoot!

    It's nice to see some Olympus love. People especially on TH-cam (for obvious reasons) gush about Sony and Panasonic cameras because they shoot higher-quality video, but there's a lot more to a camera than video quality. You can still get some very good video quality from Olympus cameras.

    I'd suggest you try the EM5 Mark ii if you want to get into the whole Olympus system. It's got the awesome weather sealing and picture quality of the EM1 but at half the price. As an overall portable package the EM1 is superior but bear in mind that the pro lenses are ultra expensive and the menu system is sadistically complicated however you can eventually customise it to your shooting style

    Fun video. In today's world almost any camera you buy will be a great camera. It comes down to what you want, need and like to shoot -- they are all just tools in the end -- and each has their pro's and con's. I suffer from G.A.S. so I've got several different brands I use depending on the job I'm doing, but I have to say it is a real toss between Panasonic (especially for video) and Olympus if you are into smaller lenses and bodies with great IQ. I do love my Oly's though. Overbuilt indeed. Rugged tough little beasts that are very comfy in the hands.

    🇨🇦/🇺🇸... Greetings from the future. I'm a tall, lanky guy. I have two big, fat hands. I also have the Sony a6100 (same size as the a6400) and I have an Olympus OM-D E-M1 M2. I do not have ANY problem with "Dangly Bits" when holding the a6100. I also have a Nikon D8100 full frame, which I use less and less in favour of the Sony... the Sony has sharper, less noisy images than the Olympus four thirds by a tad. I do use the D810 when I need more MPs or need to crop in (despite even using a 600mm. But the idea that the a6100/a64100/a6500 is hard to grab is just crazy IMHO.

    Guys thanks for the review, but it would have helped to have someone with more insight in the Panasonic MFT system. The G9 is Panasonic's flagship MFT camera for still photography & also has a High Res mode that allows 80 Meg RAW photos, plus has equal IQ as the Oly EM1 II at least according to Imaging-resource. Also the G9 is freeze proof plus has 2 card slots--compared to 1 in the Oly--and a better u/i according to most camera reviews.

    Why you are not comparing the A6500 with the Lumix GX9 and Olympus PenF, or the EM1 or G9 with the A7 cameras with similar designs?
    Since you don't give importance to the sensor size...
    The main advantage of the mFT is the size of the system (camera+lenses). But the G9 is bigger than the FF A7...
    I would select the mFT system because of the lenses; but not the 4:3 format, AFc speed and side articulated screens, only if it were like the screen in the FUJI X-T100. Have you tried manual macro or discreet street photo with a side articulated screen?

    I have the Oly Em1.2. I think this was overly negative n Sony. Like it is trash. I like my Oly a lot but the menusystem is as bad as it gets. Even after almost 3 years of use it is still a myriad to me. MyMenu would solve it. Panasonic cams to my mind are really far more intuitive. Only reason I do not have the G9 is the HiRes mode which is hampered by no longer than a 1 sec exposure. Sure the Sony's are not ergonamically very sane. I know but the overheating on those cams is far worse. But IQ is fantastic, AF is so too and it is very reliable from that perspective and at a good price (A6400). The 30 mm F1.4 Sigma is about the worst out of the bunch btw when it comes to size and weight. You could have shown the 56 mm f1.4 which I ownfor my Oly and it looks a lot better. And most fixed focal lenses are not that big. The system when you add lenses gets bigger, surely with the zooms. All in all very single sided and I say this is one who exclusively uses mFT (GM5, GH4 and Em1.2).

The build quality is always better on olympus camera too. I won't even talk about the poor service from panasonic repairs ( there ton of threads about that). The 5axis is better on the olympus too. Overall i like olympus better as a company, they guve the best firmware on the market, they are innovative, ridiculous wheather sealing and great heritage too.panaspnic just copy all the features olympus bring to the market and that lame imo. 5 axis, focus clutch, live composite, pro capture, hires mode etc all of that came from olympus.

      I have the Em1.2 and the Gh4 and I can't say the Em1.2 is better when it comes to build quality. The Gh4 was standing near a waterfall in the sleet and snow for hours without a hickup. G9 has a lot of things (I won't even mention them) that to my mind are better than what my Em1.2 has to offer. While the HiRes hampers me, the IQ of Panasonic HiRes from what I have seen is better than my Em1.2 has to offer. The G9 is also quite a bit cheaper and its DFD works really well (also from what I have seen). I love the FW update on my Em1.2 for sure and notice it in video especially. Nice to have a choice.

    I know both of you are Olympus or M4/3rds lovers you don't really need to RUBBISH Sony. That's is unnecessary.

      It's always hilarious to see you consistently in the comments of any video with Panasonic and/or Olympus mentioned in the title being a typical little 'trollie' hack as usual.. Hahahahaha... I don't believe you own or have ever shot with any of the cameras in this video because if you did you'd agree with the presenters that all of these cameras are really good in some areas, and more so than the others in some cases. You're the worst kind of miserable troll; a spec sheet quoting, sideline troll who can't even get in the game. STFU and get outside with your Polaroid and get some oxygen into that empty brain of yours.

      @@GiulioSciorio yeah, high technology, low usability it seems like with sony. If they sorted that out they really would be the closest to the perfect camera imo. I'm still torn between the em1ii and the g9 myself XD

      @@kalisti2323 I agree about Sony. Good tech doesn't make a good camera. Get the G9 if you want slightly better video and are ok with manual focusing. Get the E-M1 MKII if you want a good pro stills camera with good video AF. It would not surprise me if Olympus released another firmware update to boost video features of the E-M1. I'll be addressing that and more in my upcoming review.
