I think the reason Zubat is more hated than Tentacool is the fact that you tend to run into Zubat way earlier than Tentacool. By the time you get to the water, you might have a few repels with you, but you can't really say the same right after the first gym.
Zubat also has Supersonic, and Confusion makes Zubat encounters last even longer along with taking more damage. Zubat is also much faster than Tentacool, meaning it has a greater chance to get off a Supersonic or another move before you OHKO and move along.
Plus, when you meet them, the zubats are close to your level. Whereas by the time you're surfing into tentacool, you are much higher levels than them. Also, experienced. Things that happen to you at the beginning are more memorable than things that happen in the middle. Especially when you will think of the tentacool as like the zubats from earlier.
I felt the same way about Zubat until I decided to keep it around and evolve it into Crobat. Now I actively have to stop myself from adding Zubat to my team whenever I do a playthrough where it's available.
You know that person at school who gets bullied by everyone so you want to give him some love just to make him feel better? That's pretty much my bond with garbodor
There was an episode on the sun and moon anime where a team skull grunt was worried about his garbodor, because he wasnt feeling well. the gang was working at the poke center for some reason and helped them out and oh my god that boy's love and concern for his stinky garbage pile filled me with so much love and joy, it's held a special place in my heart ever since 💖
"Nowhere is Zubat the only encounter" Actually, it's the only encounter in the Altering Cave due to the Mystery Gift events for it being unreleased. That *is* a completely optional location, however.
Yes, optional, out of the way, a few generations later in one of the least bought Pokemon games to date, so as you said I didn't feel it was worth bringing up. Especially since by then Tentacool was given some relief with Wingull coming in...
I completely agree with you on Chesnaught and I like to add Delphox to the mix. People kept claiming it’s a bad starter but I don’t understand how. Great speed and Special stats, it broke the exhausting Fire/Fighting typing for Fire Starters, and a surprisingly decent movepool (It can use Grass Knot, for goodness sake). Yeah, it’s Hidden Ability pretty much sucks, but it doesn’t mean the Pokémon is unusable. Really, the other two Kalos starters are NOWHERE as bad as the public makes them out to be. Thanks for putting the other Kalos starters in the light, Emperor Cubone!
I agree, Delphox is definitely one such Pokemon that seems to get more flak than is deserved, and the primary reason seems to be that people prefer it's middle evolution instead, which I find to be baffling given it's a starter Pokemon, which for many people, their opinions on them are made or broken by their final evolution. It has a fair number of redeeming qualities that too many people overlook just because it's pre evolution is perceived as being "cooler" than it for some reason, and also because of how wildly popular Greninja is that it overshadows most other starter Pokemon, especially those from it's generation
Bad HA, a limited move pool for what it's supposed to be, bad type coverage, the previous two forms before it have a better design, Greninja and to an extent Chestnaught both do their jobs better in-game than what Delphox's role is supposed to be. It needs a buff like Feraligatr or Serperior.
@@matthewkuscienko4616 I never understand people saying Braixen is better than Delphox. I think Braixen looks so awkward on it's 2 legs it will blow over in a weak breeze. I love how Delphox looks like a thiefy/sneaky wizard/witch.
That ending song was incredible and I love it. I was expecting Delphox or Crabominable on the list. I think at least for the yeti crab the hate is justified but I personally like Delphox and I feel bad for the multitude of people who bash it for surface level reasons. Zubat definitely isn't that bad at all. I doubt people actually hate it. Having Crobat as a thing to look forward to from the wimpy base stage Zubat is plenty reason for it to be liked, like you said already.
Oh I definitely hate Crabominable, but I do agree Delphox isn't all that bad, just not as good as its previous stage... Yeah, that guy has written some all-time Pokemon bangers!
I still don't get the Delphox hate. I'm a hardcore grass starter trainer, but i actually really like Delphox's design, so I'm tempted to do a playthrough with it :P
@@emperorcubone Delphox "not being as good as it's previous stage" is quite literally the main problem that most people have with it, you realize. I personally have never seem it that way, and I honestly think it's cool; it may not be a starter Pokemon that I'm that fond of, but I don't have any negative feelings for it, especially none stemming from the subjective notion that it somehow gets worse by evolving
Delphox is honestly awesome. I love the idea of a fennec fox witch with a long red robe. The main thing I don’t like about it is how they could have so easily given it the fairy type. Because witches and wizards are associated with fantasy and FAIRYtales. And also fairy seems like such a more magical type. I also for some reason have a love for hated starter Pokémon. Incineroar is pretty cool. I know people hate it’s humanoid design and how it stands up. But I don’t care. The design is just a cool wrestling tiger who uses dirty tricks to justify its dark typing. I do see why some people would harbour resentment towards it however. As it was another case of the fire starter standing up. But I feel like it’s a very petty reason. Inteleon is also my favourite sword and shield starter. I’m absolutely obsessed with its spy or James Bond vibe it’s going for. I know people hate how thin and humanoid it is. And yes it was off putting to me as well. But overtime it came off to me more as it being able to squeeze through tighter spaces due to its thin frame. And it looks so confident! Like it would never break down and cry so easily like it’s previous stages. It looks like it’s grown into its own. And honestly good for inteleon. Also, WATER GUNS, what a cool concept. Being able to snipe your opponent with water. Absolutely love it.
This is the issue with Dragonite hate. It doesn't look like Dragonair and IMO the two shouldn't have both been the same line, but should have both existed all the same...and personally since I started from seeing and latching onto Dragonite's design then looking for how to obtain it rather than starting with catching a Dratini and hoping it'd just keep getting bigger as it turned from that into Dragonair and then something else, my position was always more _confusion_ than anything.
I hate to see people hating chesnaught family, it is a good playtrough pokemon, cool design and I kind like quilladin too, I don't know I think I have a love for hated mons
@@jakerockznoodles me too I personally don't like garbodor but trubish is so cute and barbaracle is very useful in battle too and it is one of the strongest regular pokemon in kalos.
Yeah, Chestnaught hate is seriously overblown. Grass fighting isn't that bad of a combo. Lots of types have 4x weaknesses. I honestly love chestnaught and chespins design. One of my favourite grass starter looks. Haven't used one really to give it a playthrough and competive remark.
I don't understand why people dislike an entire line because of a single subjectively bad middle stage. Both chespin and chesnaught are pretty great. In understand quilladin maybe not so much but who cares.
Every time I see Heatran I go "oh right, you exist". Not like I hate it, I just keep forgetting it's there. If I have an issue with Heatran, it's the fact it feels tacked on. Which is the same problem I have with a lot of mythical pokemon past gen 5. At least Heatran you can catch in game though.
Heatran feels even less legendary than the Kanto birds when you really look into it. - It doean't really have any lore (ok, it was said to have been "birthed from the boiling magma within Mount Coronet" according to legends, but that's a _very_ basic kind of legend), - It can be either male or female, implying there's more than one, as other legendaries with genders are always a single gender (like Latios or the Kami Trio), - It didn't have a movie assiciated with it - the closest it had was a mini-arc in Journeys, but it can be summed up as _"OK Team Galactic needs a big source of power; let's use this big thing and jack it up with the god's artifact",_ so it implies it wasn't even strong enough on its own, - There was a random guy in the anime who had it when legendaries/mythicals are usually reastricted to explicitly powerful trainers if they're given to trainers at all and aren't treated as unique.
@@robertlupa8273 1. I'll grant you that it's lore is a bit limited even in Platinum but at least it was a focus of the Stark Mountain arc in Platinum. 2. Multiple same species legendaries or mythicals existing is nothing new, and if anything it being capable of being male or female makes it unique compared to others. There's also no rule that says a legendary/mythical can't be more than one gender; if anything the Eon Duo were the first to show that they can even have genders in the first place & Heatran the first capable of multiple genders (Kubfu & Urshifu later sharing this distinction). 3. Actually Heatran did play a role as one of Marcus' Pokemon in Arceus & The Jewel of Life. Yes it wasn't the focal point of the movie but not all legendaries/mythicals who appear in movies are. It also appeared a few times during the DP anime as well as during the Hoopa's Surprise Ring Adventure short in addition to the Journey's mini-arc. 4. Heatran appeared as part of a random coordinator's team at the Lily of the Valley Conference yes, but it wasn't one Tobias used (he had a Darkrai and Latios).
Even if you said that "some Pokemon deserve the hate" and showed Jynx, I still want to say Jynx. It's design might not be the most flattering (but in some games it looks actually alright, like FRLG and HGSS), But Ice/Physhic is a suprisingly effective attack combination and with lots of coverage, Jynx is a suprisingly fun pokemon to use. I had a blast using it in HG when I last played it
I actually used a Jynx in Silver, and the Lovely Kiss/Nightmare combo I gave her helped me to catch Suicune shortly after encountering it for the first time.
I used one in frlg and it carried to help resist sabrina, destroy koga, and if there were problems, kiss goodnight. Also gave it some speed help with some vitamins since I really want to get some first turns. Also, when i did the run, i picked venusaur, so neutral damage to charizard helps than resisting. Also, getting freezes are fun.
Funnily enough, HGSS is actually one of the Jynx sprites I _don't_ like. My favourite one is definitely the Gold/Crystal sprite. She actually looks kinda cute in it. Little miss kissy. :* Even the black-skinned, Japanese version of said sprite doesn't look as good as the international, purple-skinned one.
Pokémon based on inanimate objects get so much hate but it’s important to remember this is a Japanese franchise and their culture has a lot of folklore and many yokai that are really old objects coming to life and taking on personalities, the most famous (at least to Westerners) being a paper parasol. Hence this Japanese game about monsters having monsters based on Japanese folklore, including this. That’s why we get things like Voltorb and Electrode, the Litwick line, the Geodude line, Bergmite and Avalugg, the Boldore line, Bronzor and Bronzong, Cryogonal, and numerous more. It’s not laziness or being uninspired. It’s Japanese culture.
Heatran probably gets more flack than Volcanion or Phione because those two feel a little more unique to people, I guess Even if Heatran's typing is unique, Water/Fire feels more special, and Phione is "that one legendary you can get by breeding", especially since you gotta beat a whole other game to get Manaphy.
I think one of the most hated Pokémon to run into has got to be wobbuffet, even on a normal run of a game shadow tag then if you kill it, it can kill you makes it a pain. And if you ever fried a nuzlocke you’re done for
Two of the mons on this list are on my personal top 10 faves list, lol. Garbodor and zubat. Poison type is my 2nd favorite type right after steel and Crobat is just a spectacular pokemon all around. Gr8 video my dude! Keep up the eggselent work.
Garbodor is a Pokémon I absolutely love, so having it be so hated really hurts me. It is quite a decent Pokémon in combat and I really love its shiny which is recycling
One pokémon that I feel is severely over hated is Inteleon. I know a lot of people have their reasons but most of those reasons to me are ones that could be easily explained. Probably too many to go over in-depth here, that or I just can't be bothered right now lol. Either way I think Inteleon's really cool, Rillaboom's still the MVP though.
@@emperorcubone Spies are basically just modern-day ninjas so I'm not sure if those similarities could be worked around either way... Even still I think Inteleon does plenty to set itself apart from its far more popular fellow Water starter.
I honestly have mixed feelings on Inteleon, personally. In the video games, I've never been too fond of it since it has a lot more physical options than special despite it being a special attacker, and I have always found it's design to be a bit off putting, not helping matters that Sobble is a crybaby. But as a fan of the tcg as well, it has made me warm up to it because there is a playset you can put in your deck consisting of it's evolutionary family that provides a lot of utility, mainly by searching for trainer cards, which is a very helpful effect; somewhat ironically, though, even though it's quite good, there have been players that are beginning to hate it for how often it's been played recently since this line was discovered
Great list! The elemental monkeys are DEFINITELY overly hated! I don’t like, looove them, but they’re okay i think! Sure, we have cooler monkeys, but it’s not a competition, they’re just existing 😭
very cool list! I didn't even know that many of these were hated lol I'd say garbodor is THE single pokemon that most went from hated to beloved because it was too overhated :D I liked it since day 1 btw, I thought the design was cool and I think the people that hated it for being a lazy gen 5 design changed their opinion after gen 6. or atleast most of them.

It reminds me of a cartoon I used to sometimes watch as a kid. The main characters had yellow skin and similar proportions, although I'm pretty sure they weren't monkeys, but some other cartoonified animals instead. Plus, it's just pretty cute. :3
Here’s the thing. Tentacool DOESN’T get a pass either. It literally gets the same hate, maybe to a slightly lower degree than Zubat. It’s nickname “the Zubat of the sea” by many for a reason.
Tentacruel had an awesome first episode though while Zubat got stuck as a cameo in it's debut/capture episode. Still think it was the only offscreen capture made by one of ash's current companions.
I think it's more how goofy Garbodor looks rather than it just being ugly. Don't you try to talk down on the flower dinosaur just because it's not as competitively viable as Chesnaught! People don't like the design of Chesnaught not the viability and Meganium has a solid design. Great video as always!
I have never seen why people hate on Garboder, to me it’s a cool and unique design that is amazing and just another Pokémon. Same with Barbacle, to me he is an interesting design and just another Pokémon if not a little forgettable. Honestly the only Pokémon that should be hated is stonjourner
in pokemon xd gale of darkness electrode was one of the best pokemon if you wanted to beat orre collosseum. it made a great lead together with either forretress(one pokemon who could both survive explostion AND explode immediately afterwards)and also dusclops(bulky ghost type with the special move helping hand).
@@emperorcubone I don't think that most games have that many double battles. the main strategy with this pokemon was to give it choice band and have it explode on the very first turn, if you you get lucky you can kill up to both of your opponents pokemon(in orre collosseum both you and your opponent use only 4 of the 6 pokemon in your team). and if you get lucky forretress can kill the other 2 if they come later on. a kinda gimmicky strategy was also to combine it with hitmonlee who knew the move endure(which allows it to survive with up to 1 hp),the move reversal(a fighting move that does more damage the less the user's hp) and holds the item salak berry(which is eaten if the user getsinjured and raises speed by one stage).
@@videakias3000 Hitmonlee is my favourite pokemon and if it has Limber with a focus sash, you get Full power Reversal, Bullet Punch/mach punch for priority/Rockslide/Stone Edge for fliers, and Poisonjab for the Fairys(if I have Bullet punch, I go with Blaze kick instead). Ghosts are really his only issue. Gale Wing Talonflames back in Early Gen 6 competetive was so bad and this was my only working solution at the time.
I don't know, I guess because they're not starters but kind of act like it? But did anyone really expect to given another starter at any point? This ain't Kalos!!
Me neither sure the designs aren’t the best but they are a free perfect type coverage for your starter so you’d think they would be appreciated a bit more
Porygon. It wasn't the one who caused the seizures, it was ultimately Pikachu. Justice for Porygon. While we're on the topic of the anime, I'd also like to nominate two overhated human characters. First up is the anime version of Erika. It wasn't her that banned Ash from Celadon Gym, but rather her overzealous staff. The second, surprisingly enough, is Tobias. Now sure, Darkrai and Latios for a league challenger... kinda OP. But given how DP was shaping up with how they repeated many story beats from the previous two series, coupled with a certain interview at the time that said they're doing that for the newer viewers, did anyone honestly expect Ash to win the Sinnoh League? If anything, I'm impressed the writers decided to make his loss that brutal, and yet still give Ash some awesome points for being the only one in the competition to be able to take out Darkrai, let alone a _second_ legendary on top of that.
Does any Pokémon fan actually hate porygon for that reason? It seems to only be the anime creators who are really afraid of reminding anyone of that incident by not featuring the pokémon unlucky enough to be featured in that episode.
Wait people don't like Erika or Tobias? I always thought Scentsation was well received for an episode, & even if that version of Erika was somewhat boring compared to her manga version, I never thought there was any hate. Tobias never should have been forgotten he was so cool & mysterious & he really should have beaten Cynthia. Porygon Family deserves to appear in the new anime series though, it wasn't fair for it to be almost entirely banned for 25 Years.
Heatran has much lore than all legendary birds combined together He literally made the stark mountain (in sinnoh) and reversal mountain (in unova) by erupting its energy The only legendary to do something in two different regions
I think what makes me like Garbodor and dislike Electrode is more in-universe designs. I understand Voltorb is meant to be a mimic, and now with Hisuian Voltorb, it's possible it and Amoongus are convergent evolutions of this mimic idea, but I'm generally a fan of the more depth more modern designs have, compared to how same-y the Cyndaquil, Grimer, and similar lines are.
That's a really good point that I'd never stopped to consider before. Modern designs are just so much more interesting than Kanto and Johto especially, where evolutions were rarely much more than "make it a little bigger and a little scarier".
@@Watch-0w1 And I'm the exact opposite. I like the more simple, naturlaistic styles and those are usually my favourite pokemon from the newer gens. I recommend checking out so art of Gen 1-2 pokemon done in the gen 6 style and the gen 5-6 mons done in the Sugimori 2 tone style.
Tepig needs to be here. For some reason i always gragvitate to the unpopular starters (Bulb, Turtwig is my fav, Chespin, and Tepig is honestly so great and very powerful looking (except for 2nd stage but that is the case for almost all starters) i never got the hate.
@@lightdrgn20 Back then he was the ugly kid. Charmander was the cool dragon everyone wanted, Squirtle was for the others who didn't want to follow the dragon hype. Bulb was pretty much nothing before he became the loveable underdog.
@@trikalabris - Charmander was who the hype kids chose (the kids who probably beat the game with just Charizard and maybe 1-2 others). - Squirtle was the choice for people who liked digimon (the cannon turtle design) - Bulbasaur was for the kids who wanted to beat the game. Once a kid showed up to school and he was 3 gyms ahead of everyone on monday, lots of people realized how good it actually was. Bad sprite designs in Gen 1 also cemented some pokemon as "terrible"
I actually used a Barbaracle for the first time a couple of months ago because I wanted to try it out. Never liked it before, but man it really is fun to use. That move pool is pretty great too
Weird thing I heard about Heatran is that I heard people found it weird that it was the first Legendary to have a confirmed gender (being male or female when you encounter it) but that often gets overlooked
@@ph0to. Yeah like when I played Diamond for the first time and I got to where Heatran was, I had no idea what it was and kind of just left it aside. Heatran wouldn't get much recongzation in the anime besides being part of a Pokemon Ranger parter and one that was owned by Saturn during the Arceus Chronicles in Journeys.
Garbodor was a solid member of my X playthrough. It alongside Crustle, Stunfisk, and Ludicolo was my final team on a blind Nuzlocke of the game and did quite a number on that Elite Four. Great choices all around, though. Chesnaught is great, Heatran is reasonable, and Zubat is one of my favorites.
I guess zubat gets it worse than tentacool because it basically had the opposite effect on trainers as Misty had on togepi - it was the first incredibly annoying encounter, so it had well imprinted on players as 'that one pain-in-the-neck-pokémon' by the time tentacool started tormenting surfing players. Also, I've never understood the delphox hate. Especially considering how much more beloved braixen seems to be while also sharing the apparent sin of being bipedal. Same with aromatisse, I've always thought it got way too much flack for basically not leaning in enough to the plague doctor elements of spritzee's design. To me, the subtlety is kind of part of the appeal, and being a can-can dancer seems to fit in with the French aesthetic Kalos has going on.
I imprinted on Brock catching one off screen and was hoping he was going to do that in more encounters. It seemed like the last time he gave battles any dedication.
@@MegaShepardsPie To be fair, that can actually work. I watch a lot of Showdown content, and most people I've seen in those videos run either Specs, Scarf or Life Orb on Greninja. Focus Sash would catch people off-guard, and a lot of competitive battling hinges on being able to predict your opponent.
@@SuperGoker64 Thing is that Greninja can't OHKO Chesnaught with Ice Beam, even if it has full SpA investment and the Chesnaught has nothing in SpD. It'll deal a ton of damage and come close, but it'll fall short at a maximum of 92.3% which will leave it wide open to get absolutely rinsed by the opposing Chesnaught.
@@MegaShepardsPie Except in this case, the Focus Sash would then ensure that Greninja itself doesn't get OHKO'ed. And come the next turn, Greninja is faster. Now sure, Spiky Shield could then take out Greninja if it used a contact move like U-turn, but why wouldn't the Greninja player predict that and just use Ice Beam again?
🥺💚 Chestnaught is one of my favorite starters, it doesn't deserve the hate. I'm happy it's not going to be shafted in Scarlett and Violet, definitely going to use it again.
Im surprised poplio wasn't on this list. His hate was so bad a defense group for him was formed pre-launch. That's worse compared to oshawatts hate too
I think the zubat line is hated so much because, unless you know about the Pikachu in Viridian forest, you have so little to fight them when you first encounter them. Tentacool on the other hand are just a way to grind your electric/psychic type when you encounter them
Very true. Pikachu or Kadabra (for the Rock Tunnel ones at least). I think anyone who started with Yellow Version was able to skip the zubat hatred. ITs really the only way you can level Pikachu to fight misty.
My personal favorite "hated" pokemon is the Vanillish line. Specifically after I learned it was just an icicle that uses powdered snow as a disguise/defense
Honestly the whole chespin line has a very unique design concept! I think it’s a water chesnut going from normal chespin to heating up and expanding which quilladin to fully cooked and now white with chesnaught :) I live this line and I wish more people did too!
i think garbodor is quite nice, used one in my black and white 2 playtrough, with weak armor as it's ability, a drain punch for some sustainability, psychic for that super effective against fighting, dark pulse to counter psychics and a gunk shot for that sweet STAB, also it came with a black sludge which just helped even more with the sustain😄
One of my favorite electric types is electrode. He has the highest speed stat in gen 1 and, the fact that he's based on a mimic is really cool. I don't think that foongus and amoongus needed to exist, but gimmighoul is a nice successor to the pretend to be treasure club.
Electrode being the thumbnail is perfect. I can't think of a better design that is a mind-blowing, but people don't seem to get it situation. It's such a cool idea Standing up for the barbaracle line made me respect it tbh. Maybe I'll have to try it sometime
I was mostly indifferent to Heatran at first, but it always felt unique for a number of reasons, such as it's useful fire/steel typing and being the only legendary Pokemon I can think of that can be either male or female. But I remember getting my hands on a copy of Heatran gx in the tcg and playing it in my fire deck (this was when fire was still a good type in the tcg, the stuff that helped it has since rotated out), and I had fun being able to take a knock out with it out of nowhere thanks to it's ability and attack
The reason most people hate on Chestnaught has nothing to do with his design. It’s simply because he has a lot more bad matchups in the Kalos region than the other starters. He is actually ranked as the second worst starter ever behind Meganium. Just not as good for his region as the other starters.
Is that just from the Gym leaders and such? Cause you're allowed to get 5 other Pokemon to help out with that... Chesnaught can still clean up most random trainers/wild battles you'll face.
@@emperorcubone yes, that is from all 8 gyms, the elite 4 and champion, along with rival battles. Chestnaught has more type disadvantages than the other 2 starters.
Here are two honorable mentions: Koraidon; He might not be overheated (yet) but I hate how people keep bashing it just because “it doesn’t use its wheels” (they’re not wheels…) Plus the first time we see him he had more expression than most other legendary! And #2: Armarouge; now I wouldn’t say hated but rather overlooked compared to its edgy Cousin, Pokémon Scarlet as a whole seems overlooked, but look on the Bright side, at least it will be easier to get version exclusives for us Scarlet players. 👍
With Semester scoring dead last in a favorite's poll: I'd argue that scoring low in a favorite's list isn't actually the same thing as being actively disliked. It simply means that it's the Pokemon fewest people have as their #1 favorite. To use an extreme hypothetical to show the difference: If there was a Pokemon that was everyone's *second* favorite, it would also be very few people's favorite by definition. On the flipside, a Pokemon could be very controversial, with it having some die-hard fans but a lot of people outright hating it. Most likely, Simester falls into the opposite category, with it simply being a Pokemon that people tends to inspire a lot of indifference in people, without necessarily being all that disliked.
Chesnaught is also quite unique as a Fighting-type offering a bit more of a supportive/defensive playstyle rather than an all-out offensive one. Leech Seed, Spikes, its surprisingly useful even in some competitive circles. The massive Flying weakness is crippling for sure yeah, but that hasn't exactly stopped the likes of Heracross or Breloom. Barbaracle is also surprisingly powerful in the right circumstances cause it gets Shell Smash, and in more recent generations, reliable STAB options. I also think its pretty cool looking even if I think Binacle is pretty ugly NGL.
I love both Garbodor and Barbaracle, I wish more people gave it a chance because they're actually pretty good. And I find their designs to be really smart tbh, I don't see why people hate them so much. And the same goes for the Chesnaught family, I don't understand how Infernape is so popular (in my personal opinion it's the ugliest starter alongside Primarina) and then Chesnaught, which actually looks unique and has a very wide movepool is so hated. It's definitely on my top 5 starters (the others being Cyndaquil, Mudkip, Rowlet and Fuecoco)
I loved this video. I think you made a great point about people jumping on the bandwagon to hate a certain Pokémon. Simisear isn’t the best Pokémon ever, but it’s not the worst. It’s design isn’t even that bad. I liked the concept of the elemental monkeys. I like to subscribe to the idea that every Pokémon is someone’s favorite. I think sometimes the fanbase forgets that most players are casual or children. They choose whichever Pokémon they think looks the cutest/coolest. That’s what makes the sitting cuties plush line so great. They make a plush of every Pokémon (right now it’s up until gen 4) that way people can get a plush of their favorite. It used to be that parents would struggle to find their kids their favorite Pokémon because they only made merchandise of the most popular Pokémon.
It's true though! I made a comment like that a few weeks ago saying, "Even Heatmor is somebody's favorite," and multiple people replied that it was true for them, or someone they knew!
The problem with the elemental monkeys is the fact they're alot better other grass, fire and water Unova Pokemon to choose from because the monkeys have bad stats and movepool (especially when you evolve them too quickly) they tried making them secondary set of starters and failed badly
Yet another reason Zubat might get more hate than Tentacool is that Zubat has TWO confusion-based attacks (Supersonic with 55% accuracy and Confuse Ray with 100% accuracy) and will likely spam them, while Tentacool only gets one (Supersonic).
I really struggle to see the issue with the unova monkeys, as they’re completely alright with me? I get that their expressions can be a little unsettling, but I’ve used simisear a couple of times, and he did me great!
Honestly, I feel like the chikorita line gets hated too much. If it were in a different gen it would have been more than likely loved. But since it was the "hard mode" starter for gen 2, I feel it gets looked down on.
what i love in pokémon tcg is how all pokémon can be useful if you use it right or have the right cards of it, so even if a mon is unpopular you can use it to your heart's content
Who hates zubat? Do they overpopulate caves? Well, yes but that’s not their fault! I’ve used many a Crobat on a team and they are amazing! Also more Pokemon should evolve through friendship into their final forms not babies though, babies evolving through friendship however, is an annoying form of torture.
I did a French Nuzlocke of Pokémon X a few years ago, and the second Pokémon I caught was a Pansear. I expected to keep it around for Cut then dump it in the box, and then it became the hero of the run, and it nearly swept the champion, which admittedly isn’t hard, but still. My favorite Pokémon is Infernape, so I had that reaction to Simisear, but to me, he’s not the worst.
The hate that Rhyperior gets is crazy to me. I get it, people don’t like it because it changes way too much from Rhydons design but that doesn’t change how cool Rhyperior is, you’re telling me you see this huge construction rhino with a drill horn, wrecking ball tail, hammer arms that also double as rock cannons, and a amazing attack stat and think “nah, looks lame”. I bet you anything if Rhyperior wasn’t attached to Rhydon he would get zero hate
About Meganium, it's a good support pokémon with a decent bulk and pure Grass is way better than Grass/Fighting defensively. It has a niche. Chesnaught doesn't.
I think the most over-hated Pokemon is Seel. When people point out the shortcomings of Gen 1, they love to say that "there was a seal Pokemon literally just named Seel, they just changed one letter, har har har, so un-creative". Like, a LOT of Pokemon in Gen 1 had simple names, or names that were just a word. Golem, Electrode, Mew, Koffing, Weezing, Gloom, Farfetch'd, Muk, Persian, Jynx, Cloyster, Chansey. Why don't these names get made fun of the way "Seel" does?
I think the reason Zubat is more hated than Tentacool is the fact that you tend to run into Zubat way earlier than Tentacool. By the time you get to the water, you might have a few repels with you, but you can't really say the same right after the first gym.
This. Zubat gives you PTSD and by the time you get to Tentacool, you're just like "RepelRepelRepelRepelRepel"
@@skanaraki2161 Same here. I did a poison mono type playthrough in Leaf Green, and the Zubat line did work!
In Pokémon Sword, I had a female Garbodor in my playthrough on the team. She was my queen. So I named her Queen. Love this Pokémon so much. ❤️
I still haven't used one, maybe next time I redo Black and White 2...
You know that person at school who gets bullied by everyone so you want to give him some love just to make him feel better? That's pretty much my bond with garbodor
There was an episode on the sun and moon anime where a team skull grunt was worried about his garbodor, because he wasnt feeling well. the gang was working at the poke center for some reason and helped them out and oh my god that boy's love and concern for his stinky garbage pile filled me with so much love and joy, it's held a special place in my heart ever since 💖
Makes me think of Dutchess from Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends
@@daan4095 Garbodor even looks sad in its 3D model. How could you _not_ feel this way about it?
"Nowhere is Zubat the only encounter"
Actually, it's the only encounter in the Altering Cave due to the Mystery Gift events for it being unreleased. That *is* a completely optional location, however.
Yes, optional, out of the way, a few generations later in one of the least bought Pokemon games to date, so as you said I didn't feel it was worth bringing up. Especially since by then Tentacool was given some relief with Wingull coming in...
“All you need to evolve it is loving your Zubat!”
Emperor Cubone, probably.
Zubat stops being annoying when it's crobat
Unfortunately I only use shiny pokémon and shiny crobat is so ugly...
My neighbor asked me why my Golbat always evolves at rhe nezt level
Because I love and care for my lil baby Zubat 🧡
We're also overlooking the fact that Chesnaught is one of the best puns in Pokemon, up there with Xurkitree and Pincurchin
Right!? That's a phenomenal name!!
See you can say that but when I say I like Pignite I get burnt at the stake
Delphox is fire and psychic
I thought the song was actually real until I remembered the original near the end.
I’ve never understood why people hate Electrode, it’s frankly under appreciated
Ball
It’s one of the the fastest Pokémon around
Voltorb especially I never got; it's a clever mimic in the games! Electrode I could see an argument for maybe, but Voltorb is perfectly fine!
@@emperorcubone 👍🏻
I love the hisuain version
I think hating a Pokemon because they look too different from their base forms is just silly.
Some of those are the coolest ones, like Breloom from Shroomish!
Kingambit made me release him and raise a new Bisharp who will never evolve. I just really disliked its design.

@@Dusxio Plus Chesnaught knows good moves for coverage like Rock Slide
I don't understand why people dislike an entire line because of a single subjectively bad middle stage. Both chespin and chesnaught are pretty great. In understand quilladin maybe not so much but who cares.
Every time I see Heatran I go "oh right, you exist". Not like I hate it, I just keep forgetting it's there. If I have an issue with Heatran, it's the fact it feels tacked on. Which is the same problem I have with a lot of mythical pokemon past gen 5. At least Heatran you can catch in game though.
Heatran feels even less legendary than the Kanto birds when you really look into it.
- It doean't really have any lore (ok, it was said to have been "birthed from the boiling magma within Mount Coronet" according to legends, but that's a _very_ basic kind of legend),
- It can be either male or female, implying there's more than one, as other legendaries with genders are always a single gender (like Latios or the Kami Trio),
- It didn't have a movie assiciated with it - the closest it had was a mini-arc in Journeys, but it can be summed up as _"OK Team Galactic needs a big source of power; let's use this big thing and jack it up with the god's artifact",_ so it implies it wasn't even strong enough on its own,
- There was a random guy in the anime who had it when legendaries/mythicals are usually reastricted to explicitly powerful trainers if they're given to trainers at all and aren't treated as unique.
@@robertlupa8273
"And all that's required to get it is loving your zubat..." Not going to lie, that line made me laugh haha

But it's Defense is awful only resisting both of its type and having 6 weaknesses so it will die to any fast fire type
Heatran probably gets more flack than Volcanion or Phione because those two feel a little more unique to people, I guess
Even if Heatran's typing is unique, Water/Fire feels more special, and Phione is "that one legendary you can get by breeding", especially since you gotta beat a whole other game to get Manaphy.
I think one of the most hated Pokémon to run into has got to be wobbuffet, even on a normal run of a game shadow tag then if you kill it, it can kill you makes it a pain. And if you ever fried a nuzlocke you’re done for
I just wonder what Wobbuffet did in Gen 2 before they even had abilities...?

Inteleon just reminds me too much of Greninja, who I don't like either, so nobody wins here...
Just hated because it a starter . I myself hate the 3 starter from galar. They could have been more creative in design.
I love the Garbodor line. Used it in both my unova and alola playthroughs. Never knew it had a Gmax form tho! Time to get some mushrooms!
Emboar and Chesnaught are plagued with ‘terrible mid-evo syndrome’ but they are actually very cool.
I was definitely expecting Jynx on this list. Also, here's me still hoping that Jynx gets a Paldean form and evolution like Mr. Mime.
It'd be funny if jynx got an alternate fairy form that could evolve to balance out Mr. Mime.

Honestly you could probably say that about most games, since Electrode is always incredibly useful!

I don't think that most games have that many double battles.
the main strategy with this pokemon was to give it choice band and have it explode on the very first turn, if you you get lucky you can kill up to both of your opponents pokemon(in orre collosseum both you and your opponent use only 4 of the 6 pokemon in your team).
and if you get lucky forretress can kill the other 2 if they come later on.
a kinda gimmicky strategy was also to combine it with hitmonlee who knew the move endure(which allows it to survive with up to 1 hp),the move reversal(a fighting move that does more damage the less the user's hp) and holds the item salak berry(which is eaten if the user getsinjured and raises speed by one stage).

Porygon did nothing wrong!!
Does any Pokémon fan actually hate porygon for that reason? It seems to only be the anime creators who are really afraid of reminding anyone of that incident by not featuring the pokémon unlucky enough to be featured in that episode.
its just pokemon themselves that mistreated porygon, the fans generally like it
It's honestly a bummer that they didn't bring Tobias back in Journeys, only for him to be unceremoniously eliminated off-screen at some point.
Heatran has much lore than all legendary birds combined together
He literally made the stark mountain (in sinnoh) and reversal mountain (in unova) by erupting its energy
The only legendary to do something in two different regions
And technically Stark Mt. isn't even in Sinnoh, with that upper island being something else, maybe Hisui still? They don't really say...

I think Voltorb final Evo is hated because is lazy and not clever. It just flip upside down. Why evolve it then
That's a really good point that I'd never stopped to consider before.

It seemed like the last time he gave battles any dedication.
problem with electrode, not enough power to be a glass cannon, but being the fastest mon in the meta is really useful tho
I think the only reason people actually hate simisear is because of all the other fire monkeys its probably the worst
True, Darmanitan didn't help it out much either...
I L O V E Simisear he's even in my top *5* all time favorite pokemon. I get super happy when I see him in a pokemon video
Haha oh my gosh you called me out for the Garbodor pronunciation!
"Can stomp in greninja with ease". Greninja laughing in the back with Ice beam and a focus sash.
You'd literally be the only person in the world to use Sash Greninja.
Again, Chesnaught has Spiky Shield...
Imo Phione should be on the list I never understood the hate for it, it's adorable
Phione is a cuter mass production model weaker Manaphy, yet people hate on it because they think it should have legendary stats.
It's such a goofy concept that it's really hard to hate them.
I just head cannon it as an Ice version of a bagworm.
Honestly the whole chespin line has a very unique design concept! I think it’s a water chesnut going from normal chespin to heating up and expanding which quilladin to fully cooked and now white with chesnaught :) I live this line and I wish more people did too!
Zubat has been my favorite Pokémon since gen 1. Respect to you my friend
I think that comment about meganium was unfair:(
i think garbodor is quite nice, used one in my black and white 2 playtrough, with weak armor as it's ability, a drain punch for some sustainability, psychic for that super effective against fighting, dark pulse to counter psychics and a gunk shot for that sweet STAB, also it came with a black sludge which just helped even more with the sustain😄
*WE DON'T USE THE WORD ITS AS A PRONOUN IF THERE'S AN APOSTROPHE IN IT! REMOVE THE APOSTROPHE RIGHT NOW!*
@@Amelia4111 sorry if my english isn't that good, i'm not from EUA, don't need to be rude🙄
It's such a cool idea
Standing up for the barbaracle line made me respect it tbh. Maybe I'll have to try it sometime
I support your respect for Heatran - never really got the hate for it
I didnt even know people hated it i originally found it to be one of the coolest legendaries
Here are two honorable mentions: Koraidon;
He might not be overheated (yet) but I hate how people keep bashing it just because “it doesn’t use its wheels” (they’re not wheels…) Plus the first time we see him he had more expression than most other legendary!
And #2: Armarouge; now I wouldn’t say hated but rather overlooked compared to its edgy Cousin, Pokémon Scarlet as a whole seems overlooked, but look on the Bright side, at least it will be easier to get version exclusives for us Scarlet players. 👍
> An entire video dedicated to defending overhated Pokémon
> Still disses Meganium
Meganium needs more love! Johto was just completely unbalanced against the adorable flower dino & its family!
i, personally, love Zubat. every chance i get i try to catch one for a Crobat. also i love how flappy it is
I completely agree
Tentacruel also had an awesome first episode where it seemed as strong as a legendary.
I lov your videos. Other poketubers make perverted comments and forget this is a franchise aimed at children. I lov the respect you show.
Thank you!! It's not that hard to make family friendly content, I don't know why people choose otherwise...
@@emperorcubone Because the edgy teens don't watch it nearly as much and they're a huge (and easy to attract) audience.
12:14 I've never had a zubat evolve into that "helpful final form".
Garbodor is my favourite Pokémon so I'm delighted to see someone say that it gets way more hate than it deserves 👌🏻
I love the chesnaut family, they're cute, look like they give good hugs and spiky shield is fun, especially on challenge runs
I don't know, I mean maybe, but it seems a little busy to me. Like, pick a lane dude; palm canons? wrecking ball tail? orange armor? drill nose?
Delfox... people hate it because and I quote, "it's wearing a dress" no it's supposed to be a mage. 😆
I love the ending song I enjoy listening to him
Yeah, I came across that song years ago in college and it's made me smile ever since...
About Meganium, it's a good support pokémon with a decent bulk and pure Grass is way better than Grass/Fighting defensively. It has a niche. Chesnaught doesn't.
It makes Whitney a cakewalk.
Man really likes Binacle.
And don't you forget it!
I very much agree with these. Good to hear that Nate and Dooki song after so many years!
It's a certified banger, never disappoints!
09:32 do not get me started on my favorite grass starter, I will make an essay on why it's the best
Crobat is my favorite Pokemon, so the earlier i encounter some zubat, the better
Chesnaught is the only Kalos starter that did not make it to Unite... Kinda ticked me off!
Wow I didn't even know Fennekin was in the game, that's messed up!
@@emperorcubone The heck i just commented 30 seconds ago not even. Is cubone a psychic!!!
Agreed!
Ouch, chesnaught was my first Pokémon, glad to see you point it out it’s not that bad
