Jessica was my favourite character in the film, absolutely superbly played by Rebecca Ferguson, who's always fantastic. I really felt for her. And the scenes of her using the Voice were terrific. She was ferocious, brutal, yet deeply caring and emotional as well. Excellent.
She was one of the two most disappointing characters in the film. Had nothing of the regalness the character had in the book, and could not even touch Francesa Annis' performance.
@@TheBashar327 Strongly disagree.
@@dreamer2260 , everyone I know who read the book and seen Dune 1984 strongly agrees with me. We agree to disagree.
@@TheBashar327 Sure. I've read Dune, but not watched the 1984 film and have no desire to really. Loved Ferguson in this.
@@dreamer2260 there are benefits to staying in a bubble. Can't fully blame someone for that.
She was scared and in shock most of the movie, but she kept going. She was scared to death and fearless at the same time. I noticed how superbly the actress balanced the two.
In most scene when she was crying And scared it was only when she was alone, this showed her bene gesserit control of emotions when she's with other people....People are complaining she was Always crying or too fearful but IMO to control emotions first you Got to have emotions if you're not scared or sad what is there to control?
Yep, brave isn’t about being fearless but overcoming it. In the same vein being able to control your emotions and clear your head isn’t about being emotionless.
Rebecca Ferguson really knocked it out of the park as Lady Jessica.👏
I haven't read a single dune book. but this character became my favorite in the movie, the fact that she was stoic and apparently without feelings did not leave aside how much love she shows for her son and how strong she is. It is a character very well achieved by the actress, who transmits EVERYTHING to you. pain, fear, sadness, love, but she never loses that delicacy and altism that characterizes her, in addition to letting her live, I LOVE IT!
Read one of the book after watching the series or movie with Sting , it was maybe 20 years ago . Both the adaptation and the book were excellent but i am still waiting for the second part of this new adaptation before watching it from start to finish .
read it. she and yueh had much more dialogue with paul and thufir confronting jessica too
Read the book! Just finished it, after watching the movie, and it really provides depth to the story!
Read the book, and look at Francesca Annis' portrayal in the 1984 film , which was spot on, and you'll see how utterly disappointing and one-dimensional Ferguson's portrayal was. A real disappointment.
@@TheBashar327 Strongly disagree, even after reading the book. I believed her character did have enourmous depth, even though her storyline was simplified (excluding Hawats suspision for example). She portrayed the conflict of being a BG as well as mother perfectly.
Cant get enough of rebecca ferguson, she's simply amazing
So beautiful ! The mother / son relationship is my favorite part of the movie. All the parallels and the voiceovers are perfectly used.
She killed it in this role.
I hope Rebecca Ferguson is nominated for and wins an OSCAR award for her acting in Dune. In the movie, she played the role of the mother who has fallen into duality perfectly. On the one hand, the cult he is loyal to, and on the other, the son he tries to protect... Aura is a very different player. The depth in his eyes involuntarily attracts you. Today, when the film industry has turned into a superhero dumpster, the cinema, which is in serious trouble due to Covid 19, needs actors like Rebecca and productions like Dune.
There is something in the Lady Jessica character that somehow brings out the best in an actress. Ferguson does a very good job as Lady Jessica, and so did Annis, Reeves and Krige in the past.
Tio me the most beautiful aspect of Jesica is that she changed the course of human history out of love for her family
Thankyou for this. Jessica is the real hero of the Dune story.
Jessica and her Order helped bring about one of the most oppressive cataclysms to befall the mankind in all its history. You obviously did not read the original 6 books or understand the import if what is going on here.
@@TheBashar327 I read the book Dune. I saw a movie by Lynch. Jessica chooses to fall in love with Duke Leto and bear him a son. She births and trains the Kwisatz Haderach. She acts against the repressive, stunted Bene Gesserit. I stand by my statement: Jessica is THE hero.
@@pippa4949 the point of the books is that Jessica ultimately did exactly what the order wanted although they didn’t realise it. Paul is the outlier who subverts what the bg want from and it’s through him that leto ii ultimately learns how to end the super consciousness brought about by the spice (and the bg). Jessica is a fantastic character but she’s far from a hero, particularly as Alia and Paul’s children take centre stage.
What was Jessica’s folly? To fall in love with her Duke and son. The cost? The jihad of Maud dib. The Tyrant Leto II. The scattering. Honoured Matte’s and the burning of the old empire.
@@BC-vg3zf I don't know about that - sounds interesting. Through Jessica's love, the sleeper awakens. The oppressive power of the Emperor and the Guild are removed. The desert planet becomes a paradise. It is the prophecy fulfilled.
Jessica is awesome. I love her character dynamic.
Absolutely love this film. Rebecca Ferguson is great as Jessica. An amazing actress.
The ending where Jessica looks at Leto and it transitions to Paul... Chef's kiss❤
2:16 My favourite music and lines: I must not fear; fear is the mind killer; when the fear is gone; there will be nothing; only I will remain!!❤️👊
This is the best dune edit I ever seen. İts so beautiful.
Thanks dude x
i think ferguson did an amazing job i was totally wrapped up in her performance. great edit you did
The complete litany is an example of wisdom :
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
I agree will the others on here. Your art and creativity captured the relationship between Lady Jessica and Paul BEAUTIFUL! Well done!
By far my favourite character from the Dune book series... Beautifully portrayed by Rebecca Ferguson even though most of her struggle in the first book was cut from the film
"though most of her struggle in the first book was cut from the film"
That literally saved the film.
@@turanamo What were the struggles?
@@turanamo why? it even fleshed out her character and she became stronger towards the end.
@@quintusfabiusmaximus8700 the whispering, her forced crying in pain... cringe. Sorry, but I felt she isn't that great of an actor.
@@turanamo bizarre take, but that’s your opinion 🤷♂️
Lady Jessica has become one of my favourite fictional characters, no doubt.
yes...and very well potrayed by regally beatiful Rebecca Ferguson, real great actress to a very sad and complex character
My favourite character in this movie.
This is a Masterpiece, truly. And is of my favorite character which makes me even more happy.
Wow, fantastic Jessica video. Superb editing. This is truly professionally done. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. ❤❤❤
I really felt terrible for Lady Jessica when Paul shouted at her: "you bene Gesserit made me a freak!". How she cried. How her lips moved while crying. It felt so real.
As a parent, it struck me in a way that I wouldn't want my wife to be disrespected like that by our children.
She and her Order did make him a freak. Did you not read the books? The first 6 written by Herbert himself? If not, you totally miss the point and magnitude of what was done by the most powerful, privileged and manipulative force in the known universe. Just because a statement of fact doesn't *feel good* doesn't mean it's disrespect.
I think it's more than just being disrepected, it's also because she knows that deep inside, he's right. At the end of the day, he's a product of Bene Gesserit manipulation, forced into a life and conspiracy he never asked for, and that she blames herself partly for being a part of his misfortune.
@@leonwoo Looking back on the film, that scene was probably one of the most important for Paul's character.
There he is in a cramped tent buried in the desert, on the run for his life and grieving the death of his father. Before then Paul was content to let other more experienced people handle the situation despite foreseeing many of the dangers that he and his family were in.
Now his life has fallen apart and he is high off his face on melange, seeing visions of himself leading a religious crusade based on what he knows are Bene Gesserit lies. Its the first and only time he loses his composure, after which he become more proactive in shaping what happens. He formulates a plan to become emperor, he starts telling his mother how to survive in the desert and he ultimately decides to stay with the Fremen over her objections.
Wait til you see what she does to Alia. Mother of the year.
In the book he actually asks her whether Leto knew of the extent that she had been scheming and although she replies it was as much his doing as hers they both know that answer falls short of the truth. Paul rightly points out that she wanted a kwisatz haderach and not a son, however much she loves him.
Brilliant editing that really captures the power of Jessica and her love for Paul.
Stunningly beautiful
Favourite character.
This is so beautiful.
You capture their strengths and sorrows.
Loved the books and the film is a masterpiece can't wait for Part Two
Really great piece of acting. There should have been a scene of her practicing her Bene Gesserit prana-bindu exercises. Rebecca would give the movements so much power. Wonder if they filmed it but dropped it. Pity. Much more impact than the breakfast scene. Paul walks in on the practice session and tries to use the voice to break her concentration.
AHHH REBECCA!!! SHE IS AMAZING💖
yes she is a great actress and beatiful high class woman
This was absolute fire. Phenomenal work mate
You killed it mate. It could never be better than this.❤❤
Thanks sm! x
Can't stop watching this!
Rebecca was/is an amazing Lady Jessica. My favorite character! Now I'm reading the books!
AWESOME! It reminded me of how great the movie was!
Jessica is my favourite character from the movie.
Rebecca Ferguson is so beautiful.
YES Areal life MILF
This was amazing! The best Dune edit I've seen so far!
Thank you!
If this movie/book was (or at least started) about a mother, who is a supersoldier and strategist, protecting raising and training her son who's also the next Messiah i would legit pay for it. It's a really awesome plot.
Lovely and the last dialogue was lit..
A strikingly beautiful woman...
Soooo beautiful! I love this edit!!!!!
Lady Jessica is one of the best characters in the series! Rebecca Ferguson is amazinggggg! Damn, she actually looks amazing. Couple of seconds of video, but already very believable acting. Great Jessica casting.
Jessica sure did wreak havoc on the universe with her willfulness, leading to the 3500 year reign of Leto II, the eventual near destruction of the human race and rebirth of humanity. Ultimately, she is a mother goddess archetype, embodying the destructive nature of something like the goddess Kali and the creative aspect of Gaia. Quite an interesting character.
One mother’s decision to birth a son out of love for her husband completely upends the status quo and all that entails: One act of love derailed 10 millennia of plotting and changes the universe forever.
Love is a truly underestimated aspect of humanity. Not to be overly mushy, but I believe love and compassion is the true reason for all humankind’s continued existence. Love can save anything and shatter everything. Jessica’s choice to gift Leto with a son out of love changed the course of all mankind, truly romantic if you ask me.
1:40 "Will you protect our son?" - Leto | "With my life." - Jessica | "I'm not asking the mother, I'm asking the Bene Geserit." - Leto
And so Jessica protected Paul, in Dune 2, as the Bene Geserit that she is.
Loved Jessica especially in part 2, she became a powerhouse after becoming the reverand mother
The way Rebecca Ferguson portrayed Jessica’s change of character/ demeanor after taking the water of life is absolutely spectacular. Like what Jessica said… she’s seen all it, the beauty and the horror.
That masterpiece 😍
this is phenomenal!! can you please make a similar epic video containing whole litany against fear?
This is wonderful! Beautifully done.
Such an awesome edit! 😭Thank You 🙏
I love the fact they keep refering the emperor but we never actually see the man.
@h432 fun fact: the emperor is not that big of a deal i paul's story. He took himm down quiet easily.
If only the movie had subtitles! Thank you for this video - I finally understand what she was saying!
Woah, this is amazing! Inredible work.
This is really good. Wow. Great job☝
Gorgeous! Love your editing
This is goooood and beautiful😻😻😻
I love Rebecca
The look that Jessica gave Paul in the last shot of the film - after his refusal to go offworld and before they entered the desert - was piercing. She seems to see something of the Jihad in his vision and his prescience he will cause a religious war that will sweep through the galaxy. Of course, Paul has already told her of that vision, but this one look tells so much about her and the failure of the Bene Gesserit to control its own creation - the Kwizatz Haderach.
This is a remarkable piece of editing. Well done 👍🏼
Never so something like that Jessica is incredible all cast is fantastic 🎲
This is a masterpiece.
Great video, loved it!!!!
WOW great job editing
So beautiful 🥰
I love the hooded black dress she wears
Great Job! Editing was very well done.
And now I have to watch it for like the 5th or 6th time thanks
This is gorgeous! I love it
WELL DONE
Very nice compilation. Would love one on Paul's visions of Chani.
I love it so much Thank u !
Loved your channel, post more videos
Thanks xx
GRAN BELLEZA GRAN ACTRIZ
Rebecca Ferguson's performance was def on par with and reminiscent of Alice Krige's portrayal of Jessica. Played with elegant restraint
I have read the books and would recommend them to all you Lady Jessica fans. Frank Herbert based her on his wife. Her dark bronze hair, oval face and green eyes. She is my favourite as well. A fantastic character.
i would do whatever she told me to
I missed you, man.
Amazing!
I would protect this woman with my life
جيسيكا اتريديس إمرأة عظيمة أنا جداً احب هذه الشخصية
So powerful ♥️
Niezwykła postać. Niejednoznaczna. Świetnie zagrana przez Rebecca Ferguson.
The Lady Jessica character.
Great performance by Rebecca Ferguson.
But I miss some aspects that the movie omits.
The constant distrust of all the House Atreides of her. Everyone, except the Duke and Paul, though that she was a traitor.
She loved Paul as something bigger than just her son. Has a Bene Gesserit final purpose. Not really present in the movie.
Lady Jessica was a terrible foe, with total self control, emotionally and psychological. On the movie she shows too emotional, I understand, it's for the good of the unsavvy public, but... OK, she just shows emotion, when she is alone behind the goom jabbar test and in the tent, when Paul reveals that he knows all her secrets. In the book Paul reveal a major thing about her that was even unconscious to herself.
But in the end, I loved this interpretation.
Good video!
@h432 of course... just making conversation, greetings
I think my issue with the remake of the Dune movies is Chalomet (sp). He is a good actor but I cannot picture him as Paul. He doesn't seem like the Duke's son and I certainly cannot see him leading people. It needed to be an actor with more presence with the implication of ruthelessness and a lot less EMO vibe. Lady Jessica is perfectly cast though.
Very good
The series is not available to me. I have seen both films multiple times. To me, the testing is one of the most powerful sequences in the story line.
Она Идеальна для этой роли, очень интересный персонаж, надеюсь ей дадут больше экранного времени
I hope we get to Children of Dune just for the Jessica and Alia stuff
Dr Yuey played true to his character. The Duke was not to know about the Reverend mother meeting with Paul (most probably because of the Gom Jabbar).
I KNOW NOW!
I WILL GIVE MY LIFE
That moment where Jessica holds little Alia, I dont remember it in the movie, is it deleted scene?
Can you do edit of duke leto atreides
Am I imagining it or is a lot of this cut from the movie?
2:33 Lovely♡♡♡
At least from the thumbnail of this video we know she has the ability to stand there with no expression on her face (which isn't acting by the way). She can also look constipated while crying. Wait - that's not really a skill either, is it? Well, that's 99% of what she does in this film.
The Jessica character had no personality or agency. The other characters were stereotypes too but at least they had a 2D personality and some agency. The duke had a fierce temper but was loving towards his son. Paul was an angsty teenage boy. Jessica? No personality whatsoever. Being weak is not a personality.
❤❤❤
I hate this woman so much! One of her superfans kept ranting to me about how great her role as Ilsa Faust was, and it mostly came down to her supposed "vulnerability" and "great looks" of course (what else?) Also, he said the character couldn't be genderswapped without "losing the spirit of the character" which is sexist af. This woman always plays cowardly, agencyless 2d stereotypes who rely on looks to get by. Watch ANY of her films and it's a twist on that. Rose the Hat is a woman who relies on her looks in lieu of morals, but in all of her other films she has no agency so it doesn't matter if she has morals or not LOL.
Who am I, Gamling?
She's 38 and Chalamet is 26, so for her to be his mom, she would have got knocked up at age 12 lol.
They're not portraying their real ages lol That's why it's called 'acting'. Paul is 15 years old in the first movie btw.
