Nathan - make sure you stay on track with your doctor visits. So much better to be safe than sorry. Glad you decided to hook up the dust collector to the mill. Your shop looks bigger and brighter when there’s little to no dust on the floor. A tidy shop makes for a happy sawyer, right? 😉 Enjoy your weekend, Nathan!

i used to work in a furniture factory. Our dust collector, like saw dust, and sanding goes through the 6 inch round pipe in a thin round sheet metal, depending on how much usage you use of it. The pipes go along the top over your head or under the roof area inside the factory. Our blower was located on the end of the pipe, next inside the wall where it goes outside along another pipe (by blowing) to a silo bin where it starts to go down in the bin. The ideal location is for you, is along the wall where the Logrite sign where the flexible pipe from the Woodmizer to the pipe on the ground then goes in the pipe, up vertically ,then down horizontally towards to the blower. Additionally you can an junction like a Y shape and add another pipe back with the other machinery in the factory, to the blower.

Nathan, when piping your dust collector, use as little flex tubing as you can.
The corrugated tubing slows the airflow by quite a bit.
For running it outside, use solid piping (PVC or metal HVAC duct) and run it straight
up to the ceiling, then 2 45* PVC elbows, tor 2 adjustable metal elbows, to make the
90* turn to the outside. The 45*s or adjustables will make a wide 90* turn and allow
the air to flow more smoothly.

Thank you for sharing and telling us about your experience with skin cancer. I am one of the lucky, or maybe I should say unlucky ones who has all three of the skin cancers. Basil cell, squamous cell, and melanoma (had that 3 times). The treatment you had is called MOHS. Check it the first time, do a biopsy, then go back in and have more removed, and if they didn't get it all go back in and they take a little more, check it and if they don't get it all take a little more. I have had that done more than a half dozen times. I am on the 6 month routine. Next time you get a spot you are not sure of go get it checked. By the way, I am also 77, almost 78 years old. Keep up the good work.

I believe I may have the solution to the hose situation for the dust collector. Use some angle iron, 3/4 inch would do it, I think. Attach a section to a rafter at each end of the travel area of to mill. In those pieces of angle iron you'll need probably 2 holes where they would attach to the rafter and another at the loose end to accept a 1/4" eye bolt shaft. Attach the ends of maybe a 1/4" wire rope or cable to the eyebolt eyes. And then some small pulleys and short cables to the hose, maybe some sort of attachment to keep the hose off the floor. The pulleys will allow the hose to move back and forth as the mill works and the collector will pull the sawdust out and to your pile. Just an idea, I've seen in truck cleanup shops where they do this with their water hoses, it keeps them from snagging and wearing out very quickly. Just an idea Nathan. Get that ol' headbone mo' betta as our Cajun friends would say!!!

Your dead right that you should get small problems checked out as early as possible to stop it getting to be a big problem , THATS really decent of you to share your personal details to maybe help others catch a problem early too , thank you for that .
Great that you’ve got around to the dust collection system eventually and I can see that even you who is so busy every single day can see the value in setting aside that time to help keep your shop clean and safe . We need your daily input Nathan , fingers crossed 🤞 your skin cancer has been dealt with and you can move on my friend . Go steady for a few days like the man said . 🙏

@@lenclark6099 It is a surgical process for skin cancer where they take a small patch, check it in the lab while you are waiting and that tells them if they missed any and what part of the circle they missed it on. Rinse and repeat until all edges are clear of cancer. Once they have all the skin removed so that no cancer cells are left, they usually do a skin graft from some other part of the body. For me it was the tip of my nose, and they took some skin from inside my ear canal to cover the missing part on my nose. Really cannot see where it was unless you know it is there. Glad they could use my ear as the next choice would have been a butt cheek. Would have made it hard to sit for a while. Plus my son would have teased me about my butt nose for the rest of my life. Kids, what you gonna do with them? They can do the same process but with other methods of growing skin in advanced for really severe cases. Not fun at all.

Yep, Basil Cell Carcinoma. I had a "mole" grow in the corner of my eye. The surgeon took quite a bit of skin away and stretched the remaining skin back. Took 5 hours of snip, test, snip test, to make sure the skin didn't have cancer cells. Free facelift! It's the least threatening skin cancer but it still needs to be watched. I've been going to dermatologist every 6 months for several years now. Great video. It does look like a spring support from the ceiling for the 6 inch tube is in order.

Nathan, I have the same exact dust collector from Harbor Freight on my mill. I use it just as it came with the plastic bag collection. If you just blow the saw dust out side, Some day there will be another mess to clean up!. If you use the plastic bags, every so often just replace the bag. Tie up the end of the one you take off and stack them outside. This leaves you with clean and dry sawdust that you can sell or give away. You are still going to have a small amount of dust and bark on the floor but a battery operated blower cleans that up in just a few seconds.

Got to keep an eye on things like cancer - well done getting it sorted.
I'd recommend attaching the hose to the ceiling on a long "bungee" (elastic rope) about where the wheel of the saw mill is - just enough so that when the sawmill is at the operator end the hose is low to the ground, as the mill moves back the bungee should lift the hose backwards and upwards out of the way.
Just an idea - all the best.

Just for your consideration. If I may recommend that you remove the 4" Y at the inlet of your dust collector a buy a single reducer to 6". The 6" hose isn't helping because you have it restricted to 4". It would also help the efficiency if you would remove the 4" outlet hose and replace it with the factory outlet of 5". If you restrict the air flow on either end you will loose collection ability.

Just a comment on the dust collector...I increased the performance by over 50% by adding 2" aluminum extensions to each blade. Might want to slip some old innertube over that clear pipe where it rubs against itself and the ground. that'll get you a few extra miles out of it before it wears through. Another great video!

Glad you went to the doctor to have it taken care of. Until we moved here I visited a dermatologist once a year for melanoma screening. I have a lot of abnormal moles and get them removed regularly. You are smart to have them checked. Glad it wasn't melanoma. That's not something we want. Have a great day sir

Hope you continue to heal. I have had the same procedure several times, cut, check, and cut again. Not much you can do but continue to be checked. My doctor aid most of it is from sun exposure 20-40 years ago.

If you get a slightly longer hose for the duet collector. Rig up trolley for it. you can use the hose to clean the floor as well !

Nathan, look up a company named Plymovent. Theyake exhaust removal equipment for fire stations. The overhead mechanism is something you might be interested in.

Nathan, thank you for doing the PSA on skin cancer and going to see your dermatologist. People need to stop putting off this kind of thing and get checked out. I've had at least five surgeries but that's the price you pay when you grow up on a tropical island and play in the sun too much. 🙂

Good job on the dust removal setup, saw where one point it bent and probably had blocked for a moment until saw head came back, what about some sort of pentagraph (sic) to hold hose off floor and lessen the bend so it doesn't clog. Glad you are taking care of yourself rest well my friend. John Toccoa GA

Hope you feel better soon. I’ve had two BCCs removed from my face and you are so right whilst the surgery hurts it’s well worth getting rid of them. Thanks for your brilliant videos.

Have you thought about purchasing a remote start? I installed one on my dust collector so I can start it from anywhere in the shop. It would be easier than hard wiring. We bought it at Amazon I think it ran about $100. Good luck keep the videos coming, I've watched every one since you started. Love the concept - you are entertaining.

Nathan on your collector I have the same collector and I found that If you take that two four connector on the collector off. I put a five to four inch reducer and made a lot better. I would use a five to six inch taper reducer. you can fine those at home depot in the AC metal dept.

You might try the Mike Morgan method of cleanup by using a Stile battery powered hand blower to clean off the excess sawdust from the bunks, rails & floor.

Glad the doc caught it. The scary skin cancer is the one you don’t notice. Regular trips to the dermatologist! (I confess with all that equipment moving at head height, I expected you to tell us about a mishap.). For your dust system: maybe a floor sweep with its own hose so you can handle (most of) the dust that escapes.

Nathan as an Australian i can assure you that the BCC and the SCC, Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma can cause death if left untreated. Please don’t think that if it’s not a Melanoma that it’s not a killer. I’ve had thirteen SCC removed from my head, face, arms and legs. I’m more prone to get them because I’ve had an organ transplant. It’s a great message you’re getting out there to your subscribers. Let’s all be sun safe 👍🏼. Slip Slop Slap!

Add a floor sweep option to the other port on the blower so that you can just sweep the excess dust into that when you are done for the day.
