    Of all the 80s songs that a large ensemble of singers can perform, Tears for Fears' "Shout" is arguably one that is made to be sung by a massive group of people. The chorus of "Shout" lends itself to the power that only can be generated by having numerous people vocalize it in unison. "Shout" has always spoken to the collective angst of the 80s generation in which it was intended for , but it stands as a timeless classic precisely because that angst transcends generations. You guys captured the strength, defiance and spirit of that song. Thank you for this inspirational performance.

    • @genghis_connie
      @genghis_connie ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@progmeup No. - but that’s also a great stand-out line.
      This is a separate line than the higher ‘let it all ou-ou-ou-ou-ou-out.’
      It’s the other change in phrasing and pitch - maybe 1/3 higher - that’s a solo voice in the original. I believe it comes after the solo, but I can’t recall right now.

    First of all I totally commend what these fabulous guys do and it's lovely to see so many people of so many different ages etc coming together to enjoy themselves.
    What I don't understand is the facemask wearing from a small percentage in the crowd. Do they genuinely think that they'll get protection from a flimsy piece of fabric in a crowd that big indoors?

    • @alphacause

      You are correct. I love everything that this ensemble does, but there is a dearth of men and you can feel the lack of resonate bass. What an excellent observation.

    • @TheSpupEh
      @TheSpupEh ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The choir has no formal membership - it's open to all so the make-up of the choir depends on who shows up. Everyone you see in that video had not heard the arrangement before they walked in. It was taught - by ear, with NO sheet music - in just a couple of hours. We can't help that C!C!C! seems to attract more voices in the higher range than in the lower range. It just is what it is.

    • @Corgi_Saurus
      @Corgi_Saurus ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheSpupEh I'm wondering if it's not the auditoriums causing the bass to dissipate. I do comedy (occassionally) and have noticed that in places with high ceilings the lower tones dissipate in the laughter which makes it feel lighter and less substantial. I've seen comics perform brilliant sets in theaters with high ceilings and afterwards the audience was "meh" because all of the punch of the laughter dissipated because of the setting. As sad as it is the location greatly effects the performance for all comics. Since these are unamplified voices I wonder if it's the same for CCC

    • @TheSpupEh
      @TheSpupEh ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Corgi_Saurus yes, the architecture of Massey Hall could definitely be a factor, but C!C!C! does attract more people with a higher singing range - even when we had our weeklies, there were consistently more women-identifying people 🤷when I first started singing with them ten years ago, I was one of only a handful of male-identified people - and I'm a high tenor (or what's classified at C!C!C! as a "mid") so my voice isn't one of the resonant bassos either!
