Hi Thomas, I'm the creator of rusty ride! THANKS FOR PLAYING IT!!!!! I had a lot of laughs watching you play the game.
First of all I would like to point that it was an unfinished game I wanted to publish on steam for free as an experiment, just to learn how to self-publish something, in the end is the first game I made to learn how to do games...
The gun actually points to the mouse, and you can see the mouse, the thing is that if you plug a controller it automatically changes the control scheme for the controller... Forgot to add an indicator for that...
Sorry for the horrible experience.... ahahahahaha, thanks to this project and further stuff I did to improve, I'm actually managing to create a proper more professional project I'll release this year :)

13:15 On the origin of the mechanic: This actually seems more like an adaptation of the Donkey Kong Jungle Climber mechanic. Both this game and DKJC are a very different mechanic from A Difficult game about climbing. Specifically that when you grab with one hand your movement is limited to the circle created by your arms. But this is still an iteration on that mechanic since DKJC doesn’t give you control over your rotation.

Excellent video! Totally agree with you about hooking the audience fast. As a player, I don't feel like this is disrespectful to me. There are so many games on Steam, and the vast majority are from unknown developers, and there's only so much time i can spend on Steam before selecting a game to play. Unless you're a big license like silent hill or resident evil, i appreciate if you can hook me fast. The 6th sense example is spot on! :)

For the first game, I’m not sure if they have it incorporated or not, but it’d be really fun to have a multiplayer compete option. Basically a 2-4 split screen where each player competes against each other to reach the finish first.

Thomas, do you have a design course? Specially interested in this color theory, UI and whatever. Or maybe you do recommend a book or other?

surely there's a control scheme for keyboard and mouse that works. maybe just press and hold a key to rotate either left or right then let go of the mouse key to jump?

55:10 Maybe the "VideoTuber" could speak to himself or his audience while walking around. This could fill the gap while waiting for action, build the story and character a little more, give cues about the environment and cause the situation the feel more tense or even cause a false sense of calm right before a big scare.

It's painfull how he struggled so hard at the horror game and then didn't even finish it...

Only I would ever find myself reading the description of the game on Steam, would be if I didn’t get the hook/story in the title and/or preview vid and images. And if I’m resorting to reading the description, I’d say 8-9 times out of 10, I’m not buying the game.

I suppose there may be some Steam SEO that this would help though with listability.

11:00 this screen jitter filter is extremely irritating, it hurts my eyes. focusing on the text while this jitter effect is going on sucks and so I wouldn't bother reading the text, I would wait or skip all of this. it's a shame since the visuals are otherwise nice and comfy.

on surmount - Thomas doing that mobile game add strategy of making mistakes all the time so the player wants to do better - go play / buy the game - cool, it also helps sell the games he reviews

the last horror game, clear asset flip from market with horrible postprocessing. there are 10000 games like that on steam, all the same, boring
