Years ago I was in Pocatello for business, and was having dinner and a beer at the bar. The guy next to me, and I began a conversation. It turned out to be Merril's dad, great guy. I was on my expense account, I bought him dinner and drinks.
Always liked Hoge as a Steeler. He was tough & smart. He knows how to evaluate players & explains the game well.
Yes Dallas does lack that tuffness

And if our players buy into Coach Zim’s plans. Because if they do, he’ll definitely improve our Defense. I remember when he finally left here and our D had been pretty good, not great but pretty good. Then he left and the players sucked! It displayed exactly what a great coach he is. Because back then, Jerry didn’t spend a lot of Draft capital on the Defense. Zim should be able to instill some discipline in this damned D!!! And that’s something that’s sorely needed on the team, period. I don’t know why Jerry wants HC who usually has no self-discipline, let alone team discipline.

Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells would have had this year’s teams in the Superbowl. No question about it. The players and the coaches would both be prepared to go out and control the game.

The coach is the reason Dallas is soft. I coach the demands discipline does so with sterness , respect and gives praise when merited. Thus his players get confidence and will go to war for him.

@@sp4de395 and that is why McCarthy gave the veterans days off during the week to keep them fresh and every player and team has the same schedule. And they work 4 to 5 months out of the year i dont want to hear burned out. If he burned out retire..

Dallas need 3 Eugene the hitting machine, or Ken Nortons not skinny little guys!!! Plus back in the day Dallas had 2 complete Defensive lines that played. No one plays every down!

Hoge pretty simply gave the biggest issues with the Cowboys within the first few mins. All the ex Cowboys, coaches and people who know football have alluded to this same thing. Why do people keep blaming losses all on Dak. It’s so annoying
