@jamesvan2201 I don't know, if what this video showed is everything there was, it seems like all of that was implied anyway and gave no more information at all. Sure, did not hurt, but remember that some good stories are good because they don't tell everything. Some stories are good because they imply stuff, they make you figure out stuff like a puzzle, or they let you wonder (tho in such case, I guess a fan would appreciate more information) but here there was no ambiguity left anyway. Actually a lot of stories was hurt by too much redundance of information or too much of the information being explicitly told and not just show through the character interaction and world building. Remember all those conversations between characters about basic laws of physics even when it is two experts in the field talking to each other. In a series like stargate there isn't enough time to do it properly like that so there usually is a character that doesn't know jack about science, so there is at least reson for those facts to be told. But that episode did brilliant with the concept of timetravel. It was absolutely redundant to tell it explicitly. And did I catch it correctly that it was Elli who was asking that basic question? Of all people? I think it was the right decision to not put it into the episode. And I think the writers knew it. There is a lot of takes that nobody has ever seen, a lot of times simply because they weren't any good and writers knew it would just hurt the story to include it.
I saw this back when Stargate had a TH-cam Stargate rewatch show. I miss that show and the associated chat. Talking to other fans, writers, stars etc. of Stargate was a lot of fun.
When I saw the title, I thought it was going to be a post-credit scene for the final episode of the series, which ended with every crew member except Eli going into stasis. While I watched every episode of SGU when it first aired, I have forgotten most of the details from most of the episodes of that series. I had no memory of the episode from this video, but now I think I might want to go back and watch it again. I really hope that they make a new Stargate series in the not-too-distant future. That will happen eventually, I just hope it is a continuation of Stargate and not a reboot.
Time is definitely among my favourite SGU episodes! I really like that extra kino scene as well, that added bit of explanation of what happened after is a nice addition.
As a life long SciFi fan, I honestly think this is one of the ALL TIME ( pun intended) time travel stories I've ever seen. It took me 3 views to wrap my head around it. One of the best Gate episodes period! 🇨🇦🖖🍻
I've seen it before. But honestly the ending of Time is perfect the way it is. It allows the viewer to think at the end. It's also my fav episode of SGU.
4:42 Riley was such a great character. He was extremely smart and articulate and was able to explain things in a way that was easy to understand. It's a shame the way the got rid of him.
Loved this take. What gets me is that the Ancients would've observed the effects of a solar flare on gate travel, to understand time. There was an episode on Atlantis where they go back in time. Wish this was explored a little more. Wish there was more SGU.
Yeah the Ancients kind of ended up being sort of fatalistic, even before they ascended. So I couldn't really see them doing anything really interesting with time travel. The writers/story *need* them to ultimately die, so there's only so much that could happen.
That's why the had DHD's, it prevented the gate from connecting during such an event, the gate on Earth bypasses DHD safe guards because they basically made their own DHD. The gates in SGU, are from a much earlier time, and generation, so it makes sense that version of the gate would experience this issue and not lock them out yet.
the Ancients DID know about Solar Activities effects on Gate Travel, they just couldn't control it properly, we saw the device the ancients built in the SG-1 Episode "Window of Opportunity" S4 E6.
I always felt that the ending made it fairly obvious how things played out. I suppose it was a bit strange that no character ever mentions the events in any future episode, but you can say that about many episodes. It is one of the few episodes that can be considered "stand-alone", although I wouldn't say there is no character development, because we get a small insight into Greer's intolerance for his own perceived failure.
It kind of makes sense that it's never mentioned again. Witnessing something like that happening to you, even though it was an alternate you, you really wouldn't want to think about it again let alone bringing it up in conversation.

I’ve seen this episode many times, it’s one of my favorites, but I never once thought about what would happen to Lt. Scott at the end, it never crossed my mind, and I think that’s probably because it was obvious that he fixed the problem, and the writers did a great job - or maybe, in addition, I didn’t think about Lt. Scott dying because it’s due to my opinion that no one actually died, because it was all prevented. This brings up one of the big questions people wonder about time (keeping in mind that space & time are interwoven into a single continuum, spacetime, that Einstein’s special relativity helped him discover) - did anyone actually die? Was there a separate timeline where they did die, or did it prevent it from happening altogether?
There is a lovely video somewhere of the cast (notably Brian Smith and Jamil Smith) watching this episode for the first time and gleefully freaking out over the action scenes and their deaths.
I remember Red vs Blue doing simillar things in certain seasons they added on the story with sponsor only videos. I wasnt on internet much in 2012 era so i missed the kino stuff but saw them some years after. I like the idea of extra content.

I didn't have cable back then and only saw Stargate a year or so after the episodes ran newly on what was then the SciFi channel. It was our local Fox affiliate that ran SG-1 and Atlantis until they were canceled and I think the WB/CW affiliate ran Universe. Maybe it was just obvious from the context and other people weren't paying attention, but it made perfect sense to me.
Personally I like the extra end bit not because it explains what happened but because we get to see the cast reacting to their reactions, seeing how they worked it out. Most regular viewers of a show normally understand the setting well enough to add 2 + 2 and come up with 4 then you have your more dedicated fans (or people like me who spend most of their time doing puzzles that work out the full plot of whatever after only getting the 2 part of the equation, it’s not like it takes a rocket scientist to work out and if you have played a Lucasfilm Point and click you have solved harder puzzle 😂 bloody moonlogic) that cotton on super fast.
So, did I understand you correctly that there was some edition or version of physical media sold of SGU that included some of the Kino webisodes but NOT this one (and some others)? Really?!?! Because THIS webisode is arguably the MOST important because of how important it is to explaining/resolving "Time"! I didn't know that any of the webisodes were ever included on any release of the physical media.

Some of the episodes of Stargate universe were some of the best science-fiction TV I’ve ever seen. Really miss the series but perhaps understand why they didn’t want to continue.
I swear I remember seeing this minisode somewhere. I don't know if it aired in the UK between episode re-runs and that was a one-off, or if I found it online when it originally was still available.
Loved this series and also was still waiting on a continuation of the series after everyone gets frozen in the pods. after that last episode I kinda lost hope and never went back to it. hope they will bring it back one day. SGU was one of my fav of all time.
I saw the atlantas and SG-1 episodes and loved the time travel ones... so this made sense to me since i picked up on the little hints.. but those who didn't see them i can see why it would be needed... still nice to watch
Even though this is one of my favorite episodes, I have one issue with the writing: The word “apparently” is used (in both the episode & webisode) so many times and close together, by more than one character, that it seems like a joke or done purposely for some reason, but I’ve never found a reason. So is it a mistake made multiple times??? It does not seem like it’s a device used for effect, either. I’ve been an SG fan from the very beginning, I’ve watched all shows & movies as they aired and rewatched many times throughout the years, but the word “apparently” does not match anything I know of in the franchise, no secret joke or message, and I’ve never heard anyone mention anything about this. But I have a hard time believing it’s a mistake, as I doubt that it would get missed by everyone (writers, actors, editors, producers) because it’s so obvious and seems blatant. I’m going to rewatch the episode and count how many times it’s said - I do know that both Lt. James & Eli say it at least twice either in the same sentence or very close together.
I have never seen this but it wasn’t necessary. SGU was my favourite Stargate series and it shattered me when they ended it on such a cliffhanger after only 2 seasons. It was a different bold approach and just needed a little more time to grow its audience.
Time is one of the best sf episodes I've ever seen of anything - I remember it literally had me on the edge of my seat because I had no idea what the heck was going to happen or where it was all going but it was tense and grim as all hell and I loved it! I think I did actually scream at the TV at the end :). I don't know if it won any awards (or was even nominated for any) but it damn well should have! Fortunately I did know about the webisodes at the time and found the one for this episode and that resolved things. But yeah, wow, what a story.
@@TheKonkaman That makes sense ... for back then, but that's not the case now. As you brought up VPN, we have a plethora of VPNs now to pick from to get around locked regions. Are there any reasons with today's tech and platforms on why you would want to avoid webisodes? (Just curious)
Vpns have always been around and the companies selling the VPN program is not an actual VPN and can be worked around real vpns are usually offered by your isp. Dns is a decent way work around region lock but has limits
Although I'm a fan of the overall SG franchise, SGU was by far my favourite of the shows for how short lived it was. It was darker and more mature. It felt like high sci-fi to me compared to its more lite, family friendly cousins.
Yeah... I didn't get on with SGU. I never liked it, couldn't engage with any of the characters, none of whom had anything I could relate with. Thus, I wasn't too disappointed to hear it had been cancelled, though I know some Stargate fans raved about how good it was, and how it deserved at least another season.
I recently picked up a copy of this series and getting set to rewatch it. It was the last set to finish my SG collection. This episode, well let's say you brought the memory back. In answer to your question, no I don't think we needed the webisode. It was good to leave us with a little mystery.
as someone who was around stargate since like season 1 or 2 of sg1, that kino short told me exactly one thing that i hadn't already gone "this happened because of this" without it the only thing i didn't know was that rush was holding his own skull 💀
Never was a fan of Universe, I loved SG-1 and Atlantis as the well rounded formula that they followed (the humor and camaraderie following a common goal while trying to remain moral) kept the cast likeable, whereas Universe felt more like a space drama (like survivor or big brother in space with the Stargate IP) and the only character I felt I could sympathize with was Eli.
I hear you, but watch the show again. The problem was that it was do totally different, it never felt like Star gate. It’s not. But give it a chance as its own thing, it. Is a fantastic show.
@@bobmcbobson8368 I already finished it a few years back (I had quit halfway through, but a year or so hiatus decided to power through just so I could say I'd finished it), still left a sour taste in my mouth. While I love the adventure aspect of it, the whole constant life and death with heaps of drama made it too much like the aforementioned franchises that I never liked.
So many missteps with this show. WB teen drama plots, limited adventures, and bizarre online only nonsense like this. No wonder it failed to maintain the fanbase.
I'm right there with you. Not to mention how they kind of hand waved away the "nonconsensual intimacy" taking place with the communication stones allowing minds to switch bodies. It's never even really discussed or elaborated on in any meaningful way. There was a lot of potential for this show, and it most of it was squandered.
How disappointing. One of the things I absolutely *loved* about that episode was the fact that they *solved* the mystery and had a complete solution. The audience has seen enough portrayals of this sort of thing before to see through to the end and know what *would* have been shown if only they had more time to show it, so why bother? I specifically *loved* this because it respected the intelligence of the audience. Now you go and ruin it by saying they did go ahead and show the superfluous epilogue of the plot after all.

Still miffed this was cut down in its prime.
My heart aches to think about Stargate, when will the reboot it, I can't wait!
I loved this show so much, I wish we had gotten more.
Loved this series and also was still waiting on a continuation of the series after everyone gets frozen in the pods. after that last episode I kinda lost hope and never went back to it. hope they will bring it back one day. SGU was one of my fav of all time.
For me this was one of the best episodes in the entire SGU show which is my favourite show of the 3.
The added bit might have been useful for a newby. Thanks for this reminder of the Golden Age of Sci Fi TV.
I never saw that extra. That really does wrap it up nicely
I saw the atlantas and SG-1 episodes and loved the time travel ones... so this made sense to me since i picked up on the little hints.. but those who didn't see them i can see why it would be needed... still nice to watch
Interesting that SG1 universe switches between linear time vs multiverse time is completely inconsistent.
Can you imagine if that was the last episode of the series?
I have never seen this but it wasn’t necessary. SGU was my favourite Stargate series and it shattered me when they ended it on such a cliffhanger after only 2 seasons. It was a different bold approach and just needed a little more time to grow its audience.
SGU, best Star Gate show of them all
Should have tacked it on for the dvd etc...
Of course I've seen it, I watch SGU every year.
Im so happy the days of webisodes are long gone
Why is that? Im missing something sorry.
@ because back in the day alot of it was region locked and it was back before vpns, lots of content was missed because of it
@@TheKonkaman That makes sense ... for back then, but that's not the case now.
@@chuckm260 most media is on demand now, so episodes aren’t 30m / 1h, they can be as long or short as needed to tell the story
Thanks for sharing! 8:43 8:43 8:43
Reminds me of the Star Trek episode Cause and Effect.
It was good to leave us with a little mystery.
as someone who was around stargate since like season 1 or 2 of sg1, that kino short told me exactly one thing that i hadn't already gone "this happened because of this" without it
the only thing i didn't know was that rush was holding his own skull
💀
we all probably saw it and just forgot because stargate universe is so easy to forget.
I was hooked on this show, and watched with Facebook fans
Yeah years ago on TH-cam I watched all the SGU kino webisodes.
I did get this scene on the DVD copy I got.
That one lost a ton of fans because the next episode reset like it never happened. After this, I was the only one I knew that kept watching it.
I had never seen this before. It was interesting, but I agree that it wasn't necessary to include it in the original episode.
