You folks took me and my team to new places this year. 🙏 I would love to hear one new thing you tried this year and how you felt after. W or L, doesn't matter. Bonus points if you were scared the entire time.
Ok what the actual fuc is the deal with the second story?!? They "failed to communicate" that she'd get crushed to death if she stepped on the metal part at the end of the escalator?!? THEY WERE LITERALLY RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER! THEY COULD BOTH SPEAK!! HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?!? I legit cannot comprehend this
There are actually so many questions with this one. 1. Why would you stand at the top instead of at the bottom, where you could warn people not to get on? 2. Why would you not yell loudly for them to turn around? 3. Why would you not put a piece of plywood or something over the broken part of the floor? 4. Why would you not just put a hazard/mopping cone at the top and bottom with a handwritten note to stay off?
Chinese communist government does all the thinking and decision making for every single action the people there undertake. They no longer know how to make their own decisions because they live in an extreme nanny state.
In China, if you are having a heart attack or stroke or whatever, the chinese citizens will most likely not help you because due to scam lawsuits if you are trying to help them.
@@AsukaLangleyS02 Was about to say the same thing. There are great parts about china but victims rarely get justice. I remember multiple cases of babies being killed and parents got about the equivalent of $1000 for their child's life. A woman was eviscerated by a train and survived somehow; lost most of her limbs and they paid out less than $200,000. She can't work, eat, bathe, herself at all for the rest of her life. It's insane how little people get when someone is taken away from them.
This whole story is infuriating. Why were all the mall employees standing at the TOP of the escalator? Why wasn't there someone at the bottom stopping people going on? Why hadn't it been turned off and blocked? Why did they wait until she was about to fall into the gap before saying or doing anything? These people were beyond incompetent. It's mind-boggling.
Plus dont all elevators have emergency shut off switches?!? Like, even if they couldn’t get her attention, why not shut the elevator off? Or better yet, block the entrance! Such a big failure on their part, how disgusting 🤦♀️
So they could easily and quickly communicate effectively with a man, but couldn't be bothered to do the same for a mother and young child???? Why weren't they at the bottom preventing anyone from getting on it? Omg that story is infuriating.
I assume it was for the same reason most people subconsciously believe they are invincible. Ya know, that thought of "That could never happen to me!" They probably didn't think their lack of intervention could possibly have that sort of consequence. But once they saw that woman get mulched right in front of them, it was likely a very rude awakening that, yes, our actions, or lack there of, have consequences, and we need to take this shit seriously. So they quickly realized that this guy has to get off the escalator right now or he is also going to die because of them. By no means an excuse, they are entirely at fault for that woman's death, I just figured that was the thought process.
In my opinion, that's indicative of the possibility that they didn't realize how serious it could be. Based upon their reactions, I imagine they just assumed it was a trip hazard. After watching a woman get ground up, I imagine that changed their sense of urgency. Tragic failure to properly safeguard against an accident.
They could shut off the escalator. Or put a sign up at the bottom of the escalator. That was the stupidest reason for someone to die all because the employees are morons. That poor woman.
Well, yeah. At that point, they realized how serious the hazard actually was. I am guessing they didn't know prior to that. Which shows that they weren't afraid to point out how serious the situation was in the first place, since in Chinese culture, women are generally afraid to confront men, and make them lose face. The fact that they urgently told him to stop, and prevented him from coming up, in my opinion, is indicative that they had no idea the platform was as dangerous as it was until the woman died. My Aunt is from China, as is her sister (and her entire family is still there), so I am very familiar with their customs and attitudes. I cannot believe how many people on this channel are not coming to the conclusion that these women, whom had safely made it across the platform earlier that day, simply didn't realize it could be fatal to step on it, instead of blaming them, and thinking it's due to stupidity or Chinese culture. Just because someone comes from a different country (even a Communist one), doesn't make them inept.
The second story makes me so mad because that could've easily been avoided if the employees had done their job and blocked off the escalator when they knew something was wrong.
@@AkrinSomber it has nothing to do with "neurotypical" and you should stop slinging around terminology you don't understand. it's purely just incompetence.
What I don't understand is why they station people at the top of the escalator instead of at the bottom where people would enter the escalator. Even someone as young as they were and inexperienced should not have been this stupid.
@@christineharris2302 Then the baby going from being excited to hesitant was even more heartbreaking. Not one person stood at the bottom not even one is insane
@@SigM1811They are horrible. I am constantly watching buildings and homes being half done and investors running away with the money. I mean 10-20 story buildings are crumbling at the base. I watched one vid that showed the C C P come in and destroy buildings that were approved to be built years prior by the same people.
I remember watching that video of the second story. It was circulating in the mid 2010’s. It brought me to tears, seeing her brain make that decision in a split second and using her last free movement and upper strength to throw her son as her feet were eaten. I’ll never forget it. She died displaying a last beautiful, selfless act of love. May she live on in paradise 🕊️🤍
I was thinking the same thing, the search and rescue didn't stopped to think that she might've fell down the steep hill across the street from their house? Anything becomes a possibility especially when the missing person is struggling with Alzheimer's. May all the victims involved in these stories RIP.
K9 unit aside, how did nobody searching think to look down there at all? That’s some incompetent searching for sure. Who can ever trust cops to do their jobs after hearing stories like this?
Those employees should have faced major charges. Literally all they had to do was yell "do not get on the escalator!" Before she got on. What the hell were they thinking!?
My blood boils thinking of this... what were those women at the top doing, or thinking? They didn't appear to be making any effort whatsoever to get them to turn around or help in any way. They were just standing casually.
I hope they simply were never told what the danger was, just "go keep people from using that escalator." Because if they were aware of the danger, their actions suggest they wanted to see people get killed.
I really appreciate that you caption each photo to let us know if it's a dramatization or an actual photo of the people and places from the stories. Not every TH-cam story teller does that.
1:13 I always appreciate when Mr. Ballen provides information that I assume to be common knowledge. I think that most everybody knows what Alzheimer's is, but Mr. Ballen understands that there's bound to be at least one person watching who doesn't know. Giving brief descriptions makes his videos feel very accessible with great care to detail. Yet another trait that makes Mr. Ballen a great storyteller. Happy holidays and New Year's to this wonderful TH-camr.
I agree . Alot of times he provides information that maybe not everyone would know or that most people would know but just in case someone doesn't know, he kindly provides it
Why would you station employees on the TOP of an escalator that had its ENDING step be the faulty one that would kill you? And not close off the bottom??? And WTF were those employees thinking? Not yelling at that poor woman to run off? Vaguely pointing?
My mother in law went missing once on our hilltop. We searched for her for a long time before she just appeared back at the house. She had leaves and grass in her hair, and we really have no idea what truly happened to her. Alzheimer's is a cruel disease. Thankfully, she got to pass peacefully less than 24 hours after being placed on hospice at 86.
Those two diseases are the most cruel thing for the individual and for the loved ones. I’m living with my best friend and her mom who has dementia and it’s do f$&@d up! Some days she is terrified because she has no idea who we are and why we are in her house. She’s called 911 twice locked in her room telling them we broke in and were trying to harm her. An hour later, she’s laughing and sharing stories with us. Cruel
@beatrisathetrailscout2892 it's tough, and I'm sorry you're going through it. Take videos so your last memories aren't of the sick version of her. I wish we would have taken so many more. 😔
I was afraid of escalators when I was a kid because I thought it would be possible to somehow get caught and dragged in and eaten. My parents assured me no such thing could ever happen, escalators were totally safe and there was no way they could eat people anyway. I would never step on that platform part even so but hop over it. Think I might take that habit up again…
I always take the second step on the escalator, I think it’s highly likely your shoe can get grabbed and lead to horrible injury. I’ve never done this out of fear, just caution.
That’s how I felt after watching final destination, when the girls shoe lace made the whole escalator start grinding everybody up. The great I had as a kid was like no other 🤣
When I was a kid my shoestring went down through the comb shaped platform at the end and trapped my foot. My life wasn't in any kind of danger but being 5 or so, I didn't know that. Lol it pulled my shoe so tight and I was screaming dude. To this day I still get a feeling like I don't know what to do when it's time to step off an escalator.
@@tonylunsford1189 This happened to me as a kid, shoelace snapped thankfully. Now around 15 years later I still make sure my shoelaces are well tied if stepping on an escalator or rather take the stairs.
Literally the opposite of my mom - she would always warn us to be careful before we stepped on an escalator, telling us that it was actually possible for your foot to get pulled in and really injure you if you're not careful. She'd hold us tightly and make a big deal about stepping over the beginning part and ending part of the escalator. We also had to make sure our shoelaces were tight before we got on. I always thought she was too overboard with it and would roll my eyes, but she'd seen news stories of children who had been injured on them.
The way those employees were just standing there with their arms by their sides shows they either really didnt understand the issue at all or that they really didnt care about her life. Thats so heartbreaking
China dude.... I've been living in China for 10 years now, they don't care about human life, or more importantly, safety. "There's a billion of us if 1 dies who cares? not my job to save lives" Also keep in mind those employees probably make 3 bucks a day. They quite literally could not give 2 shits about you if it might get themselves hurt.
That first story reminded me of an old lady going missing from our village years ago. She had dementia. She'd gone walkabout in the middle of the night and her husband only realised when he'd woken up to use the toilet. They found her body about a mile away at a place she used to feed chickens when she was a girl. She'd died from hypothermia, only wearing her nightie & slippers on a foul November night. RIP Betty.
That’s so sad… probably a more comforting way to go though. She was probably just reliving her childhood and unaware it was happening. Maybe it was peaceful..
Ever since seeing the Notebook I have feared dementia. I fear it for my parents and they're in their 70's so I always look for subtle signs of dementia. The first sign I see they are going straight to the nursing home I am not dealing with that nonsense.
@@desertweasel6965that’s not good for them. They go downhill so much faster than if they stay at home with a carer present, whether it’s a family member or professional help. My grandfather had Alzheimer’s and lived with us until he was 82. He then went to a nursing home and died 2 years later. No one really talked to him but me, 16 yo and my cousin, 14 yo. Nurses were nonchalant and neglectful of the dementia patients. I’m currently taking care of my mom who’s in the middle stages of dementia. It’s not easy, but I make sure she eats healthy, takes supplements and meds, and is clean and entertained. She still plays sudoku and mahjong daily, and has actual quality of life. She’s told me she would rather have a stroke and die in the yard, than ever be put into a home, and guess what? I’m here for it. That’s the way it’s supposed to go: the parents take care of the children and then the grown children take care of their parents in their old age. People in third world countries take better care of their aging parents than we in first world countries, and that’s unacceptable. Be better.
Thank you, Capt. Lewis for seeking justice for Willie Suttle and for everyone who supported the conclusion of the case. Although it was not a murder, it says a lot about the commitment to justice.
And if this story didn't showcase once and for all to whackadoos that things like voodoo curses absolutely have no effect, then nothing will. Nothing bad happened to all the other funeral home owners despite this level of attempted voodoo cursing lol.
Many years ago, a severed human hand was found on Clapham Common in South London. It sparked a police investigation concerning possible murder etc. It was only after the autopsy that the pathologist figured out that the hand had been soaked in formalin as preservative. So it didn't take long to work out the culprits. Medical students' sick idea of a joke. In that part of London, not far from Clapham Common are four major teaching hospitals with attached medical schools : St Thomas', Guy's Hospital, St George's, and King's College Hospital. It could have come from any one of them.
One of the most horrific cctv videos I saw was of the Chinese lady slowly being dragged down inside the escalator, pushing her infant son to safety. I won't ever forget her and her bravery, courage and determination saving her child. Thanks Mr Ballen!
@thegodofpez Yes, I too feel very sad for the father and son, and hope the boy was too young to remember what happened to his mother. Also, I really don't think I could watch the video again. Happy New Year to you'll!
@@julieelliott5807 this is probably the most horrific thing I ever heard, and I bursted into tears seeing the photo of the son, and as a mother myself, I can understand how this mother felt in her last moments probably in horrific physical pain, but not feeling for herself but her son, and I would like to think she died knowing her son was safe, making her not care if she gets hurt. I have faced a gangster with a huge gun but he was trying to get my baby sister to dance with him and I wasn’t having it. He pressed the gun that he had concealed in his jacket right up against me, and tried to scare me with this icy stare. I would not let him pass and I didn’t care how “dangerous” he was. In that moment all you are thinking is keeping your loved one safe, or die trying.
2024: my husband died on June 28th. It was the middle of the night. I woke up when he collapsed against the bed and hit the floor. I started CPR, called 911, the paramedics arrived, tried to resuscitate him, but it was futile. Side note: I am disabled, and could not keep up with the land and house. Fast Forward: December 20th. Moved to Alabama to be closer to my adult kids. Started over with my youngest daughter. Terrifying. I'm still grieving, but taking things one day at a time.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I lost my spouse the day after thanksgiving. I’m also disabled. I have an older home in a small lot. Due to that, hopefully ,I will be able to stay here. Losing a life partner is so very hard but I know God has me.
The first video makes me so sad!! My grandma had frontal temporal dementia for over 10 years and I helped my mom take care of her every day until she died on January 1st, 2024. We were so thankful that she NEVER wandered out of the house! I can’t imagine what her husband went through not knowing what happened to her all that time. Rest in Peace grandma and Paulette 💜
Can't remember the details but locally a guy with dementia went missing similar to that, but I think it was 4-6 months before he was found. (Though I think he was a widower and one of his kids was the caregiver)
@@DemonKingBadger My husband's aunt with dementia wandered out of their house and got hit by a train. Many people criticized her family for not keeping a closer eye on her-but in fact, it's probably impossible to watch someone constantly and it only might take a matter of seconds for someone to slip out a door. That was a long time ago. Nowadays, people could easily have an alarm system that sounds if a door is opened. His aunt was the sweetest, nicest woman you could imagine.
I'm really confused. I can't imagine that a massive manhunt couldn't find a decaying woman 100-200 yards away from her own house. I mean her corpse had to stink after a few days. Did they live next to a dump? It seems like complete incompetence to me.
We had a family member go missing. He was found 6 months later in a place that had been searched. We had faith in the enormous search effort as well, and finding out they passed right by him was heartbreaking. For us, it was too late even if he had been found then. I can’t imagine what it felt like for that man to find out his wife was alive, and so close while they searched for her.
Aw, that's so very sad. 😢🙏 Going back to this particular story, it absolutely freaks me out to see Marcel hanging out washing and Paulette heading to her demise less than 50m away.
There really is no way of knowing that she survived the fall or how long she was alive down there. No one heard her yelling for help. I’m sure her husband looked for her and went down to the street. Police probably did too. I suppose it is possible that she wouldn’t be heard. Hopefully she didn’t suffer down there for a long period of time. It is surprising she wasn’t found sooner but it happens too often that people are found in locations already searched.
The 2nd story is unforgettable because it was so avoidable. They could’ve done ANYTHING to save her. Blocked the escalator, yelled at her to run off, pressed the emergency stop, had her try to leap over it, anything.
I think it’s a cultural thing. Employees are a lower stature than customers and not allowed to order them, only ask politely. If they are ignored, there’s nothing they can do. If you remember the Korean airlines crash, the captain made an order, they second and third chair knew it was wrong but weren’t free to tell him so, so they did it and crashed.
Literally. Watching the video you wonder what those people had in their head. They are basically just watching her by doing minor gestures with their hands 😢
I've seen the first case being covered by several channels on TH-cam, but this may be the first time I've learned that the husband can be seen just right on the other side of the Google Street screen. Somehow that exact shot makes the incident more haunting in a way, since you're seeing a couple's final moment where they appeared "together" in one picture before tragedy struck, and it would be immortalized on the Internet.
In the second story I can’t understand why the workers were standing at the TOP of the escalator that goes up and NOT AT THE BOTTOM TO STOP PEOPLE FROM GETTING ON
I knew a man who worked for KONE in Kansas City, they work on escalators, and the same thing happened to him except he survived. He was however left with both of his legs gone below the knees. When he told me this story it terrified me and I’ve been SUPER cautious of escalators ever since.
That's terrible! 😢 My friend's husband was installing cabinets, and backed into an open lift shaft that nobody had thought to cordon off. Broke his back, pelvis, arm and shoulder.
@@thehangingparsiple5692 A friend of mine died, falling through the back door of a lift: She thought it was a wall, and was leaning on it when it opened. 😢
So these employees yelled to the poor woman's husband to 'stop!' but couldn't manage to do the same thing for her? What is wrong with those two women? This poor mother. She is one hell of a magnificent mother.
There was a woman in Auckland NZ with Alzheimers, Pat Wearn, who went missing 7 years ago, not far from my home. Her poor family still have no closure (no Google street view for this one) and I think of her often. What a heartbreaking thing to go through.
Aucklander here too- I still often think of Pat and the first story immediately made me ponder her case again. She was so sweet. So sad. I hope our useless "law enforcement" eventually find her ❤
The last one, she shouldn’t have got off on ‘freedom of religion.’ It’s desecration of a corpse, and even if it was a ‘religious practice’, there was no consent given to use his body for it
It wasn't for freedom of religion. It was because they coerced her into confessing by falsely telling her she couldn't get convicted/charged if it was because of her religion.
Voodoo is widely practiced by Caribbean migrants, though illegally - they get their sacrifices by illegal means almost exclusively; usually by murdering people's pets and other protected animals.
@@relaxresell3121 Not like the DA needed a confession. They had a corpse full of her voodoo dolls, likely her handwriting scrawled all over the notes on them too. Sounds like the prosecutor flubbed the case.

The first story and every other one including dementia/ alzheimers gets me. my grandpa just passed from it and it’s so so scary. He lived with my mother (and then our family) for over 20 years and watching him forget his oldest daughter and where he was was heartbreaking. There were nights where we had to sit with him and assure him he was safe and no one would get him. Such a lovely man before and after dementia
I became disabled in 2015. One day I was walking and living life normally to hardly walking with a walker and lost use of my hands. I stayed in the safety of my home. I was so scared but i went to your story time in Atlanta all alone.I live on the GA/NC line in Franklin NC. Nothing was going to stop me from seeing you. I'm angry i didn't approach you though. I wasted an opportunity and been kicking myself in the ass since. If I'm ever blessed to get another chance, I will NOT blow it again. I look forward to every Saturday with you. And also I’m sorry to hear about your disability and I hope that you’re okay mentally. Can’t imagine dealing with something so drastic. I can’t picture the toll that must take on someone. Stay strong
Daggum get it!! My personal issue is massive persistent depression. I can trick my brain into working sometimes; I don't think that works for loss of physical function. Keep it up, you're a total badass!
I seriously don't know which story disgusts me more. The second one, with those employees who should've been convicted on manslaughter charges, or the last story that shows America (my country) to have the most incompetent court system imaginable that they would let that piece of s**t woman go free?
Because she's black and female. If a white man did that he would be thrown in prison for years (as it should be). But you know, USA I niggacentric society.
Sickening. Shows you what people are getting away with behind closed doors. Amerikkka is engulfed in evil and corruption, sadly so is most of the world in this day & age.
China lacks U.S saftey standards and the US legal system locks away tons of people on small nonviolent charges but is incompetent in putting the people that need to be behind bars away.
I gotta say your videos help me with my fears and understand how to help myself read a bad situation better. In June of 2024, I decided to start painting, after a six year hiatus. It began as an exercise for my mental health, since I am bed bound. I have been painting, in watercolors, every day since June 1st, yes, every day. It was a challenge figuring out how to set up my painting supplies next to my bed, so that I could paint while lying down and I did it! My mental health has much improved. God bless you and your family John. Happy new year ❤❤❤
I started getting therapy after years of listening Mr. Ballen. I was physically ill and mentally devoured by my pain. After a year of therapy I realized I don’t need to save this video for sleep. I can watch it whenever I want.
Looked up the musical artist Ren - in particular, his song “Troubles.” Sounds like he might have been telling part of your story through his own. Glad to hear you are in a better place ❤
Mr B, you have saved 2024 for me with your sometimes terrifying, sometimes bizarre, sometimes unbelievable but always incredibly interesting stories! You have a truly tremendous talent for telling tales, and watching all of your videos has honestly helped keep me sane this year. Happy New Year, sir. I wish you all of the continued success in the world. You deserve every bit of it. Please keep doing this forever!
The second story and the first one are just heart breaking. The son in the second felt like they shouldnt be there yet the mom dismissed it. If only she got off. It is 100% the mall's fault. They could've blocked the escalators entrance so no one could've stepped on it. Seeing that image of her handing over her son in such agony even in such a state she put her son's safety over hers.
I got the graphic novel for Christmas but my dad doesn’t stop taking it from me because he wants to read it over and over again. My dad is now addicted and I can’t get the graphic novel back.
Far as the first story goes, instant anxiety. I’m 32, almost been married 10 years, if my wife up and vanished I’d be afraid I wouldn’t last long. She does more for me than she will ever know every single day.
@ yeah. You’re right. And she’s that supportive, my career wouldn’t be possible without it. Multi million dollar career. Especially with how much I work. I’m a single income household she takes care of everything while I travel the country doing what I do. What babysitter would watch 3 kids for an entire month while I restore powerlines for major hurricanes like Helene and Milton. It wouldn’t happen, my friend. My life as I knew it wouldn’t be possible anymore.
Before I watch, I have a Mr Ballen story to tell. I was in Algonquin Provincial Park, just getting back in the car, when a dude parked next to my partner and I, and he asked us where to go to for a great view. We happen to run a group for enthusiasts of the Park so we had lots of suggestions. The guy told us he needed to see something beautiful for mental health reasons and I complimented his openness on the topic. He said he would drive to one of the places we mentioned and listen to podcasts. I asked what podcasts, because I had a sneaking suspicion...and yup! Mr Ballen fan. I replied, "I knew it! You're WEARING Mr Ballen!" He had a plaid shirt on and a backwards baseball cap. He laughed and agreed about his look, and departed for the sunset. I hope it was a good one.
As soon as you started telling the story about the escalator with the mom and her son and the 3 employees at the top, I immediately fast forwarded that story. That story is incredibly heat breaking and disturbing. Thank God the kid was saved, but the father should own that mall for that accident. The mall should have stopped that escalator or had employees at the bottom of it to ensure nobody got on that thing.
Having looked at the video I'm starting to think it was a management failure more than anything. The employees a the top were only there because they rode the escalator, stepped on the same plate and quickly stepped off. Then they call their maintenance or their manager and just sort of stay there. I'm guessing probably waiting for some further instructions. For all that it pissed me off when I initially watched I'm guessing they probably just didn't realize how serious the situation was since they themselves were not hurt. But the mom, carrying her child probably didn't have the maneuverability that they did to quickly get off the loose plate. Definitely a horrible situation, but I'm leaning away from faulting the two employees themselves.
It's the second Mr Ballen story to make me have such an emotional reaction; I can see I'm not alone as I read such emotion fueled comments. The first story was the workers who were sucked into an underwater pipeline and the sole survivor tried to go back in after being checked medically but wasn't allowed as the company wouldn't pursue the rescue and declined help from other countries. So sad.
All 3 stories were definitely the most heartbreaking of all 2024 stories from Mr. Ballen. The 1st one broke my heart. The 2nd one pissed me off. The 3rd one just made my shake my head in WTFness. Thank you Mr. Ballen, I truly enjoy your storytelling and all the good you bring to the world.
I have a question. I've heard stories about Better Help and how it does not vet its therapists and it falls into the patients to vet them. Many have reported that the "therapists" were bullies or disengaged or both and make the patients feel worse. Why do you still work with them?
I know people who have gotten actual help through better help. Don’t assume that experiences you heard rumors about online are indicative of all experiences. Sometimes people just want something to protest because they start getting cancel culture withdrawals.
I think as better help got more and more used, those that are truely there to help started to get overwhelmed. While i don't condone the fact ill adviced people getting hired to cut down the strain, it does happen. I know there will always be a few good eggs amung the bad, its just a matter if better help cleans house. Declining the sponsor would only do so much, but in this case i think it might be necessary before viewer stigma harms anything. With the honey scandal and this, it could hurt someone well deserver career.
Hi, I just wanted to add-- I'm pretty sure Better Help does screen its therapists, but if those therapists end up having a bad personality, one can always switch. And maybe he still supports them despite the bad apples because, well, you'd encounter these bad therapists in person, as well, but with Better Help, it's easier to switch them with another therapist. And also, even if the user has to research their own therapist on there, it still saves them money to do therapy this way since they save on transportation costs at least
This year I tried getting sober. And In almost 10 months I will be meth and heroin free with the help of my family, myself, and suboxone. I’ll turn 28 next year and this is the longest I’ve ever been clean since I was 16 years old.
That first story was so upsetting. I can't even imagine what it is like for a loved one to battle with Alzheimer's. My heart goes out to all the family's struggling with such a terrible disease. My eyes watered hearing that sad story😥
It's terrible watching someone you love go through that! Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy! I think the worst part is that first time they forget who you are and they're actually afraid of you. It's heartbreaking to have someone you love so much and want to do nothing but help and make feel safe to actually be terrified of you and think you're holding them captive. I've been through it with several family members and all I know is if I ever get that diagnosis, I'm checking out on my own. No thank you! I'll take the time I've had to that point and call it a day, I have zero desire to go through that or put my family through it. Once it hits a certain point you're not living anyway, you're existing and IMO it's not a desirable existence either. My parents were much older than most when they had me so most of my family was older and the majority have already died. I've seen death from various different cancers, liver disease, heart disease, COPD, stroke and Alzheimer's and a few more. Alzheimer's is BY FAR the worst. And I mean BY FAR. I don't guess there is a "good' way to die, but there are definitely the worst ways and Alzheimer's is definitely one of them!
Ty. Very kind words. My mom was my best friend for the 60+ years I've been alive, but she's 90 now and suffering from dementia. It happened fast, within 9 months, and it's sad. I miss her 😢
I had the last of my family die a few months ago it all started with my mom, then my dad died abyear later and a few months ago my brother and this channel makes me realize i am not alone and makes me realize many people share my loss...
The 2nd story really hit home to me. In 1971, my grandmother unalived herself by going out the front door, crossing the street going down to the lake and drowning. She did not know how to swim. My grandfather was working in the garden in the backyard at the time this happened. She had mental problems but in 1971, we didn't have the resources to help like today. She left a note that she did it because she was tired of being "sick". I was 7 at the time and she was my idol! I loved her so much!
It’s awful. I was a paramedic for 10 years and we were called to the scene in the middle of a very hot summer for a man who had gone missing 2 weeks ago. The summers were in the 90’s and 100’s. He had dementia and must have had a moment of lucidity and he went into the woods to end his pain. I’ll leave it at that. It was just awful. Imagine feeling alone in your own world of dementia just to have a moment of being lucid and they feel the need to end their suffering where they died alone.
As an RN of 15 years, I feel like - with that bramble bush area being so close to the house - it would have been the FIRST I would look. But...I have probably taken care of thousands of patients with some level or type of dementia. No one WANTS to live in a facility, and I understand that. But this is the kind of scenario that occurs when you don't acknowledge that the illness/condition that your loved one has is beyond your levels of capability for care. One of the most frustrating elements of our work in nursing and health care is managing the expectations of family. I DON'T mean that it's his fault or that nothing that happens under the care of professionals isn't their fault, because sometimes it is and sometimes it's the expectations of the professionals that aren't realistic. It is probably the hardest fight, though (finding the balance between hope and realistic expectations). ❤ It's a heartbreaking truth. 😢
that 2nd story is just awful, it was so preventable. Not only did they not warn her of the danger, but any escalator should have an emergency stop at both ends. Incredible incompetence.
Something new: REHAB. I was addicted to everything, especially heroin. In order to give my recovery a fighting chance,I left BUFFALO,NY and went through rehab here in PA...I'm now just over a year clean, which is something I used to think was impossible.
I got a tooth pulled today and i was so nervous but the dentist let me wear headphones and i knew the only thing that would help was listening to mr ballen on full volume during extraction!! We love you! 😭❤️
My first thought, too! The red button covered by a clear, flip-up cover stops the escalator. I remember pranksters turning off the escalators in area malls, forcing shoppers to use them as stationary stairs. Anyone/everyone had easy access to it.
As I was a security guard in a hospital and also in a market at one point that both had escalators in that I had to deal with, I'm familiar enough to see this has the Emergency Stop button type at the top and bottom that can easily be pushed with your hand, foot or even a broom if you need to keep a distance like here, you'd need a special key to turn it back on. There's only two things that could have happened here, the Stop button did not work (unlikely but the Escalator is obviously poorly maintained) or massive incompetence that no one pushed it (very likely going off the lack of critical thinking, behaviour and poor positioning of the staff). Needless tragedy.
y the shoping center staff just stud at the top not someone top n bottom to stop plp geting on r a out of order ,maybe the boss sed not to stop it ,ether way not a good way to die
If they were too dumb to say "Hey dont come up here there's a big safety issue" then I wouldn't expect them to have the wits to hit the shut off switch
5:33 Such a tragic story. My grandma lived in an old folks home when she wandered out into the dark winter evening. The alarm went off and alerted the nurses but they simply turned the alarm off and returned to their coffee break. Eight hours later the morning shift came on and they went in to grandma to check on her, only to find the door leading outside from her room ajar. She had fallen in the snow and had laid on a hill sloping away from the building. She was barely alive and passed away within two hours from hypothermia. Unfortunately the government in Sweden doesn’t pay any damage to speak of, my mother got about $3000 and the nurses received an official reprimand.
@ yes, even if she was almost hundred years old she didn’t deserve to go that way. The thing that I found a little unnerving was when my mom told us that when she had visited grandma early that same day to do Christmas decorations, grandma had patted my mom’s hand and told her that she was being picked up by grandad later that night. Almost as if she knew something was going to happen. Mom didn’t think anything about it at the time, but as she held her old mother’s hand as she passed away she thought about it. My mom is certain her dad came to collect her mom so she wouldn’t be alone, which is a comforting thought. Anyway, my grandma was one tough lady when she was younger, and lived a very interesting life. At her funeral I kept hearing her telling me how to angle the fishing hook when I was a kid. I miss her, and feel so angry about the way she passed away. I don’t understand why they ignored her alarm. Since she suffered from dementia she had alarms on her doors, to keep her from wandering away on her own. Take care and have a happy new year 🙏🏻🎆
@@TOGade-dj6jhthat's a extremely sad but also comforting story I'm sure she is with her husband in heaven looking down at you proud that you're a good person and great grandson hope your doing well and I'm extremely sorry for your loss
Across the street and down a big hill, stuck in thick bushes. They didn't go down the steep hill and dig through the bushes. Either they didn't use dogs, or the dogs didn't pick up her scent in that direction. The helicopters flying overhead directly above where she was, couldn't even see her, so she must have been well hidden. Hindsight is always 20/20. Given that she was prone to wandering out of the house, she should have been in a dementia care unit, where she would have been safe. I am not blaming the husband, because it's not easy to put someone you care about in a nursing home, but the situation was avoidable. Which is what makes it so sad.
@@jenx5870 Dementia units are not automatically 'safe' either. My father's sister had dementia in her 70's and was in a rather expensive and well thought of 'home'. She slipped her bed alarm one night, made it out of the building and finally found 3+ hours later middle of night lying in a snowbank on the grounds of the 'home.' THEY WERE LITERALLY RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER! THEY COULD BOTH SPEAK!! HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?!? I legit cannot comprehend this
Isn't there some sort of safety emergency stop button at both the bottom and top of the escalators that could have prevented this??
@@Storm-dm4bx there is always stop buttons on escalators so a simple press on one of those and it would have been avoided....
Should have blocked it off.
Those employees just nonchalantly letting that woman die. Wow. Straight to jail.
In China, if you are having a heart attack or stroke or whatever, the chinese citizens will most likely not help you because due to scam lawsuits if you are trying to help them.
Sounds like a scene out of Saw tht poor child
It's China lol
@@AsukaLangleyS02 Was about to say the same thing. There are great parts about china but victims rarely get justice. I remember multiple cases of babies being killed and parents got about the equivalent of $1000 for their child's life. A woman was eviscerated by a train and survived somehow; lost most of her limbs and they paid out less than $200,000. She can't work, eat, bathe, herself at all for the rest of her life. It's insane how little people get when someone is taken away from them.
Absolutely. UNDER the jail, forever. That's just horrible and sick.... that poor woman, her poor family...
The second story is crazy... how can a somebody so casually NOT tell a person they're about to step onto a death trap
It’s China. When you live around 1,500,000,000 other people human life becomes insignificant.
@ the fact that makes me so mad is they didn’t care to warn her but showed they were fully capable of doing that when they warned the next man
@@fractalfae5418 99% of people have exactly that amount of awareness.
Plus dont all elevators have emergency shut off switches?!? Like, even if they couldn’t get her attention, why not shut the elevator off? Or better yet, block the entrance! Such a big failure on their part, how disgusting 🤦♀️
She was one brave fast thinking momma. May her son always feel her love.
She was dumb. Wtf
Tragic failure to properly safeguard against an accident.
universal Chinese language doesn't exist

How did the K9 units not find Paulette? That should be a cake walk for them especially since she wasn't far from her home at all
My thinking exactly - very poorly trained K9s and officers that must have been. Major fail.
Right
I was thinking the same thing, the search and rescue didn't stopped to think that she might've fell down the steep hill across the street from their house? Anything becomes a possibility especially when the missing person is struggling with Alzheimer's. May all the victims involved in these stories RIP.
K9 unit aside, how did nobody searching think to look down there at all? That’s some incompetent searching for sure. Who can ever trust cops to do their jobs after hearing stories like this?
My immediate thought too. They need new K9s and/or handlers.
Or turn the damn thing off and roping the entrance off.
I hope they simply were never told what the danger was, just "go keep people from using that escalator." Because if they were aware of the danger, their actions suggest they wanted to see people get killed.
Its China. They have zero regulations

That video also haunts me.
thank god you've never been on any gore sites. some of the videos of what africans and mexicans do are the things of nightmares.
That’s what I thought this video was gonna be! Awful scenarios, both of them.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
I’m sorry for your loss ❤ my heart breaks for both Paulette and Marcel. I hope they both find peace.
I'm really confused. I can't imagine that a massive manhunt couldn't find a decaying woman 100-200 yards away from her own house. I mean her corpse had to stink after a few days. Did they live next to a dump? It seems like complete incompetence to me.
As soon as I saw the title for the second story my stomach turned, I'm 25 years old and still deathly afraid of escalators. This poor women

Thank you for your service, Mr. John. Glad you’re still here with us man.
Going back to this particular story, it absolutely freaks me out to see Marcel hanging out washing and Paulette heading to her demise less than 50m away.
@ That has to be a crushing realization when he realized what happened…
I think if it had been me communicating to the woman, I would have even run down the escalator to tell her.
...or at least grabbed her hands as she was stepping off to pull her over the plate in question. And the baby also, of course.
@@izzojoseph2The employees screamed at the husband not to get up bruv. You didn’t listen to the full story

In addition I’d like to point out that in fact, china.
Because common sense isn't too common anymore.

A mother’s love is so real, such a horrible sad ending to a story but as a mother, I was touched by the story! Rip to mommy ❤️
Police are allowed to lie to you in interrogations to get a confession.. so I'm surprised her confession was thrown out.
@@relaxresell3121 Not like the DA needed a confession. They had a corpse full of her voodoo dolls, likely her handwriting scrawled all over the notes on them too. Sounds like the prosecutor flubbed the case.
It was not a religion. Not even a cult. It was a desecration. Big difference.

Why would he think that?
His mother would want him to go on and live a happy and fulfilling life.

In June of 2024, I decided to start painting, after a six year hiatus. It began as an exercise for my mental health, since I am bed bound. I have been painting, in watercolors, every day since June 1st, yes, every day. The second story and the first one are just heart breaking. The son in the second felt like they shouldnt be there yet the mom dismissed it. If only she got off. It is 100% the mall's fault. They could've blocked the escalators entrance so no one could've stepped on it. Seeing that image of her handing over her son in such agony even in such a state she put her son's safety over hers.
my thoughts exactly. they could have blocked it off, and or turned it off.

So sad.
I had to fast forward the video too. I've had nightmares about escalators my whole life!
Why would you place employees at the TOP of the escalator going up, instead of at the bottom to warn them before getting on?
I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m full on addicted to Mr. Ballen! 😊 He is literally the best storyteller on the planet! ❤
Why do you still work with them?
this should be addressed, hopefully he or an admin sees it and does so soon
I agree, I think the better help issue is gonna explode any time soon.
Why didnt the employees stop the mom and son like they stopped the husband from coming up!? Or stop the escalator? 🤬🤬🤬
So many ways to have prevented this…. She saved her son, but died a horrible death.

That first story was so upsetting. I can't even imagine what it is like for a loved one to battle with Alzheimer's. My heart goes out to all the family's struggling with such a terrible disease. My eyes watered hearing that sad story😥
Its gut wrenching and reality breaking. That person you know, where are they? Its too much!

I think you mean the first story.

@@liscatcat8756That was my thought. How could the dogs not track her right across the street?!😮
It's not even about dogs, surely any halfway decent searchers would have thought to look across the street and down the hill?
That was my thought as well. There was proof of her walking across the street that day how could the dogs not have picked her scent only hours later??
Good point. I didn't really think about that, but that should have been obvious.
It's a heartbreaking truth. 😢
that 2nd story is just awful, it was so preventable. Not only did they not warn her of the danger, but any escalator should have an emergency stop at both ends. Incredible incompetence.
I remember the escalator story when it was in the news. I couldn't believe it and still can barely grasp it. She's a hero and should not have died.

No emergency stop on the escalator?
Why did they not stop it anyway. The repair would have had to switch it off to repair it.

That's terrible!! Your poor Grandma!
Oh my, I'm so sorry 😞 ❤
Take care and have a happy new year 🙏🏻🎆
I'm so sorry for your family's loss that's absolutely terrible
@@TOGade-dj6jhthat's a extremely sad but also comforting story I'm sure she is with her husband in heaven looking down at you proud that you're a good person and great grandson hope your doing well and I'm extremely sorry for your loss
Happy New Year Mr Ballen! So happy I discovered your channel last year!
Huge search and she was deceased across the street? I question their police work…
Yes, seems they didn't square by square search

Dementia units are not automatically 'safe' either. My father's sister had dementia in her 70's and was in a rather expensive and well thought of 'home'. She slipped her bed alarm one night, made it out of the building and finally found 3+ hours later middle of night lying in a snowbank on the grounds of the 'home.' It's a horrible illness dementia and alzheimers. Poor man.
I was diagnosed with a progressive form of muscular dystrophy. I started writing my biography & started my company all while bed bound. I'm definitely nervous, but I just keep moving forward day by day.
Wishing you to stay strong mentally and emotionally and physically as much as you can. 🤗
@@Utube_user_0001 i sincerely appreciate that. Thank you.
Make each day count

It's now been 4 or 5 years since I started watching mrballen. In those years,I've never been disappointed. 🎉❤
im year 3-4 🤝🏽❤️
INDEED..!!❣️🙏🏼
Me either!❤
Same. Been watching long before he even got really big. Only times I've ever been disappointed was when he was sponsored by questionable companies. The content itself has always been great though.
Eh. Different strokes for different folks I guess. He was a LOT better in the beginning, right after he stopped doing the fake paranormal bs stories. And was putting out a video at least 3 or 4 or 5 times a week. Now you're lucky to get one a week. And now he's just phoning it in. Sounds like he's just reading a script that someone else wrote. Because that's exactly what he's doing. Guy's got a whole team that researches and writes the stuff for him now. I guess that's the nature of success and money, the more you have, the worse the quality of your product.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone! From my family to yours! Great blessings, more happy moments, more solutions and more prosperity of good wealth and good health to all:)
Wow two minutes! Love your work John! I’m a VA physician and I love taking care of veterans, thanks for your service!
There are many good doctors at the VA, I know y'all get a bad shake sometimes but I also know the VA tends to overload doctors with their caseloads. Keep up that attitude and thank you for being one of the good ones 🙂
Thank you for your service to our veterans!
Ms landrieux can be seen on street view for the year 2009 as well. You can see her husband looking for her at the dead end near their home. She can be seen several houses down the road standing there next to her neighbor’s car looking inside. Apparently she’s been taking off for years before her last incident 😞
i work for the police in Belgium and the first story was one of my first cases. i love your videos and the respect you give, keep it up.
Just want to know, didn't her body's decomposing stench catch anyone's attention?
My G 👊🏽
It's just a very sad case. At least her husband had some closure.
Sounds very fishy , considering there was sniffer dogs etc
And you couldn’t find a woman literally across the street from her fucking house? Great police work 🤙
22:52 when you’ve already binged all the podcasts…😅
Was just thinking that, lmao
Yeah, I felt called out. 😂
Just got caught up again last night 😂
Right there with ya 😂 Even the other ones too. War Time Stories. Redacted. Most of Run, Fool. 😂😂😂
My thoughts exactly
WTF were the employees doing AT THE TOP of the UP escalator trying to prevent people from going on it? Doesn't even make sense.
I went to one of your shows! It was truly a once in a lifetime experience! Thank you for bringing such incredible joy and knowledge to us all!!❤️
It’s amazing that you’re advertising something that may actually be helpful for people, as its therapy. I haven’t seen such advertising on TH-cam. Kudos for that.
I went to your Charlotte show. I've never driven or been that far by myself before. I have an irrational fear that something bad is going to happen to me if I'm by myself. When I sometimes do, I tell mom, "If something strange, dark, or mysterious happens to me, I want MrBallen to tell my story."
Seems you’re still here to tell the story tho! ❤
Hey! We were there too!
Hey!! We were there too
I hope you feel impowered by this experience . You should ! Phobias can alter our quality of life when they are the type that CAN'T be avoided . Good on you for fighting for your best life !
One new thing I tried this year.....I learned to be happy being alone. I was terrified to start over at 49. I white knuckled it for almost 2 years. I am so happy with my own company that I didn't feel the need to settle for anything in my life. It's been great! 😊
Thank you for your positive testimony. It's nice to see among all the heated debate over these emotional videos today. I commend you for your courage as I know it can be very scary as I did the same thing 2 years ago with my 4 children depending on me. I didn't think I could do it on my own financially and yet here I am buying land to build my first home for a better life. Better things await us if we can overcome our fears and trust.
Never heard "handed over the hand" in a sentence before...
Pretty handy, I’d say
Lol handing over the hand funny sentence
You heard it first hand here.
Now that is a bad hand.
William, you're the worst.
I just want to say, Mr ballen has given me so much motivation this year, I would even listen to his videos when I’m sick or simply doing home work
WOW almost 9.7 million subscribers! I remember when I first found your channel, it wasn't even at 1 million. I am so happy for you and I hope you continue to gain many more millions of subscribers! I'm late wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas but better late than never. I haven't commented in a quite some time, going through some personal issues, but I still watch your videos. I didn't notice the amount of subs until now. You deserve each one and each new one you continue to get. Congratulations to you and 🐸on almost 10 million! Thank you for everything you do and have done because you help me get through some terrible times! Just in case I miss it or you don't post another one, Happy New Years!!! 🎉🎉🎉 I pray you and all your loved ones have a wonderful one filled with love and happiness! Stay funny, keep these videos coming and be safe! Sending this from Chicago. ❤
I jumped aboard the second he went from TikTok to TH-cam. I'm not so into his paranormal and bigfoot type stories, but he's the best storyteller when it comes to true crime. Even if I already know the story, I listen in because he tells it better than anyone else.
Ad ends at 7:28
Appreciated 👍
“Jump ahead” would be nice (:
It's wild he's talking about being self aware in the ad while endorsing Better help. Remember it's a therapist licensed at betterhelp, not a licensed therapist. Also, they sell your info.
@@R2LEE2this guy changes details of the stories to get more views. He’s definitely a used car salesman type
@@stellar9553yea in that story about Israel Keyes he left out the fact that he made the girl go back with him to her house and break into her car and her family almost saved her during that encounter 😂 he just picks what he want to put in Willy nilly
@@R2LEE2YES thank you! so many people dont know about this. such a terrible company for mental help
Why wouldn't you block the escalator at the bottom if that's how you were going to handle the problem?
I know, the whole situation was kind of weird. They way they handled it.
I gave watched all your videos and all your podcast stories. I'm obsessed
Gott Nytt År! Och tack för alla hög-kvalitativa videos!
*why didn't the mall employees use words BEFORE they got near the top?! why did they just point as if they were non-verbal?!*
because they were negligant idiots.
🇨🇳
Why didn't they stop people before they got on the escalator instead of waiting for them at the top?
@Thephillips-dj1po the answer to all of these, as well as why there wasn't an emergency stop button (or nobody pressed it), is the same: it's China
right. it's as if they were curious to see what would happen..
😂😂😂😂😂 at 0:32 because my greedy "munchies" tail is walking back from the kitchen with snacks and it's to the beat, like I'ma snack monster 💀💀😂. Happy holidays to you all 😅
omg i love it 😂 happy holidays 😊
😂😂 couldn't make it up 😭
😂😂😂❤❤❤😂😂😂
Love all you do Mr. Ballen. Wartime Stories, Run Fool, etc.! You and Luke Lamana are two of my favorite creators! God bless you!
story #2 is so infuriating. that escalator should have been turned off, blocked off, with employees and signs at both ends to keep people out and warn of the extreme danger at hand. even if they didnt realize how deadly the issue could become, someone still could have gotten seriously hurt..... just inexcusable
As is saw the photo of the escalator I immediately remembered the video I saw years ago. It is so gut ranging 😢can't wait to see your video to get more Infos about the poor woman's life with such a horrible fate
