Love to watch your video! Nowadays we can't travel around because of covid-19, while we can still follow your video to tour Tokyo. That is a fantastic idea to show the world of cycling in Japan. Thank you for all the good efforts.
Nice video. I've been to Kyoto thrice, lovely ambience. The streets are just a tad narrow but we loved to walk around in the early winter month. BTW I own a volck z1 carbon foldie so it is nice to see Kyoto from you guys' perspective. Keep it TWC.
Great video as always! I miss this beautiful Kyoto view. I actually walked down that street with my friends before when we met up one weekend, coming from different parts of Japan (me from Kitakyushu) from where we were studying. The way the buses cut and stop are really dangerous, but it happens in Singapore (where the Camp Royale Foldies are from) alot. Cars are worse as they may do it at high speed without a care of if you're a cyclist or a bus. They'd even cut buses and jam brake in front of the bus. That's why we usually have to stay alert. All the best in Thailand and hope to see more vids from there too!
Was searching for a video on renting a bicycle in Kyoto and stumbled upon your video! Loved it so much! I have a few questions if you don't mind: 1)Any bike rental shops would you recommend in Kyoto city centre? 2)If there are no arrow + bicycle mark drawn on the side of the road, is it safe or legal to ride along that street/road? 3)Assuming i need to stop half way for a meal or drink, can i just park my bicycle outside the shop? Thank you so much in advance. I will continue to watch your other videos in kyoto and osaka.
Hi, i'm your longtime viewer It's so relaxing watching your video I would like to know, if foreigners could buy secondhand bike in japan, & what kind of procedure, is it possible to bring the bike when leaving japan? If possible could you make video about it Thank you in advance May you & your family have a great life
I love your effort you made and I always love the city but I wish I could love the people. Especially where those bus driver willing to ram you in the name of time schedule. I guess time more important than safety in this former capital of Japan or time stop in the sengoku era LoL.
I noticed a lot of women wearing traditional costume. Is that unique to Kyoto, or was there a special event taking place? I saw a couple of women wearing kimonos in your previous vlog. Do you fly out of Kyoto, and how soon is it before you leave? (Sorry for all the questions. Take care.)
It's popular for women or couples to wear traditional clothes in Kyoto. Both for foreigners and for Japanese people. We flew out of Tokyo a week later.
Just the kind of channel I was searching. There aren't many bike ride videos so it's refreshing to see one. I watched lots of walkthroughs videos on TH-cam from different parts of the world, mostly from China, Singapore, Russia, South Korea, Macau, Hong Kong and Japan. So I have some idea. What are your guys plan for the channel? Are you guys planning to film other Japanese cities also?
Bikes are prohibited in Shijo dori which makes the buses more aggressive. In general, just be careful with the buses and garbage trucks in Kyoto. Better avoid the bus routes and use the side streets. I hope you enjoy your sightseeing trip!
I was wondering if you will still upload your footage from Lake Biwa to Kyoto? The hill in between is a bit challenging so I am curious to see how the foldable bikes performed there . I also curious which route you took. :)
I’m really surprised that the bus drivers are that reckless. Even in bike hating Britain, they will slow down and follow a cyclist as they approach a stop.
@@TwoWheelCruise To be fair to the drivers, they’re probably put under insane pressure to hit timetables to the exact second. And presumably the traffic is worse than it used to be. No excuse for dangerous driving but another reason why societies really need to just slow down.
Have been following you guys for sometimes and all your vidz really reminds me of the time (almost 20yrs back) when I stayed in Japan, and was cycling in difference places (Matsumoto, Suwa, Sendai, Sakata etc) All the best for your future adventures, Keep Riding, Sharing & Stay Safe 👍👍 Last but not least, hope to see you guys in Singapore in the near future👍👍👍 P. S, I ride a Royale too. 😁
Cruise, after so many cycling videos I’ve watched of you both, I noticed on this one that your hand positions are the same as mine. You place your left thumb over the bars and not under. I do that because of slight tendinitis at the base of the left thumb from an accident a number of years ago. Placing the thumb over the bars relives tension. So, what’s your excuse 😂? Another great video. You should be in Thailand soon, right?
Is there no cycling infrastructure in Kyoto? You should buy phone holder and install some good maps in your phone. If you prepare route in advance, you can find some nice safe back streets and sometimes they are even faster than main road.
There are a few protected paths, but mostly just arrows painted on regular roads. I got an adapter to put my cycle computer back on my handlebars now :)
I'm honestly not trying to be THAT guy, but you're actually not allowed to bike on Shijo Kawaramachi - I learned this the hard way when I was stopped by a police officer lol (no ticket or anything fortunately, he just told me to walk my bike).
I think as a fellow cyclist and driver, we need to understand and realise that public motor vehicles should have the right of way if there is no dedicated bike lane. It won’t make much sense for a cyclist to slow public bus and taxi services down because some roads just aren’t big enough for vehicles to overtake. Pace of life, work environment is definitely faster in more developed Asian countries, hence lesser patience. Being both, I try to exercise caution and understanding. We have to respect their road culture, like it or not. Great tour by the way! Looking forward to more!
Also a cyclist and a driver. I do not agree with above. In japan Pedestrians are king, so they already established a hierarchy. Pedestrians > Cyclists, Horse riders > Motor Vehicles. Its the same in the UK. Even if it is frustrating to be behind a slow cyclist or a horse rider, it doesn't make it right to cut people off and just make the situation more dangerous like the examples in the video. I don't think its the car or motor vehicles to blame. Its simply the attitude of road users feeling more entitled. This is why protected bike lanes/ dedicated bike lanes are the only way of the future. Keep cars, pedal cycles and pedestrians 100% separate. Amsterdam has this mastered already. Only question is why haven't we :) Also having "less patience" is a crap excuse for endangering someone's life
I wonder what makes the drivers of various cities in Japan so different- Kyoto, you pretty much expect to get cut off, Kobe is a lot more laid back. The availability of rental bikes makes riding a great option to see more without having to time your visits to a bus/train schedules.
@@TwoWheelCruise Japan is like the US with very high standards of living and tech luxuries (assuming you're not poor and struggling; and I felt safer living in Japan than states). But, for all the talk, I felt far more free while I was traveling in South America than ever in the US. When you're out in the Amazon, there's not a lot of people telling you what to do. I imagine much of Southeast Asia is similar in that way compared to Japan. I've never met anyone with a bad experience in Vietnam. The chaotic sort of guidelines more than hard rules mindset in places like Thailand and Vietnam makes a more laid back society and people are more relaxed and happy it seems. Also the cycling around Chiang Mai looks amazing.
This is definitely a very picturesque and interesting city to explore, but I fail to understand why you have suddenly decided to set a dangerous example by refusing to wear a helmet .

Kool gate, wow
Really like this type of cycling tour!
Oh that river that I always see on Instagram
Wonderful video's! When riding in general but especially in traffic, a bike mirror is really helpful.
My dream to cruise Kyoto by folding bike. Hopefully this year.
Beautiful Japan! Great video. Ride safe always.
Another great video, is this gopro footage? Looks amazing!
Yep, thanks!
A beautiful river view. Yes, that gate is huge. Thanks for sharing you two. Be safe...🎥😃👍👌👊🚴♂️🚴♀️

We have some cycling videos in Osaka
@@TwoWheelCruise thanks i'll search for :D and I hope you can do those other places sometime :D

Not so much lately. Most our rides are on strava.
When will you come to Thailand ?
We're in Thailand now!
Can you please diagram how as a biker you allow yourself more room?
Don't ride at the very edge of the road and elbows out. It also helps to wear an open jacket blowing around 😅
A lot of people asked already probably, helmet is not required?
Not in Japan for adults

Only for children in some areas
