So glad this helped. You might also check out my video on vibrato. And, if you participate in All-Region or All-State, I have just this week started a new channel to help coach flutists who are competing. The first video was just uploaded, there will be another next week and hopefully each week. Here's the link: th-cam.com/channels/IQwI1tJH_TAwGXqAAQXLkw.html
This video answered my question about pitch bending with the flute. I am in the process of becoming a digital orchestra composer. As part of that process I am trying to learn as much as I can about as many different instruments as possible, particularly extended techniques like this. It is not enough to have digital instruments that sound realistic. Or being able to use a pitch bend wheel on a keyboard. The flute itself has limits, and so I feel it is important to understand them, I do not use MIDI output. The computer doesn't play my virtual instruments. I do. So when I am doing a flute part, and I need to bend the pitch, it will be within that quarter step up or full step down that you demonstrate. Thank you. By the way... I actually do play real instruments. Soprano and Alto recorder and Iris tin whistle, and I used to play the clarinet. So my choice to do digital orchestra composition is in no way intended as a slight against physical instruments or to any way disparage the wonderful talent of those who play them such as yourself... After all... There would be no digital flutes without the real thing. Thanks for posting this. You've been a big help.
Opnn8d1 I’m very happy I could help! I love the tin whistle & I wish I were better at it, but honestly I never take the time to really pursue it, haha. Good luck with your orchestral works. I’ll be very excited to hear them!
I put together a little experimental for an intense movement. I's just Allegro strings, Timpani, and and orchestral drums, but I would be interested in your opinion. the patern of the movement is really just a progression of not combinations in D Minor. Opnn8d1 I think it's great, and you've definitely captured an intense mood! I could hear it in some sort period piece movie. I wonder what a more lyrical top end would sound like with that?
Thanks for reviewing it. I can say that this little piece I threw together has inspired something bigger which I am working into a demo I am putting together for someone. That piece will be released at some point after I get the go/no go from them to flesh it out for their project. If rejected, I'll release it immediately. If accepted, it will have to wait until after his project releases. I look forward to being able to share it...thanks again...
Hi There, Nice Video By The Way ....Kindly Answer Me, Bending The Notes is Not At All About Pressing Or Unpressing The Keys On The Flute Right? It's About Adjusting Your Embouchure To "Bend" into a Different Note....Please Tell If I Make Sense..
+Abdul Hafiz We actually do online lessons at the studio where I teach! If you're really interested, send me a message & we can try to set something up. Thanks for asking!
HARDIK DIXIT Hey there! I would say that my instrument is in the $10,000+ USD range. The wooden head joint was a separate purchase, which I believe was something like $1800 USD. I’ve been using this same flute since about my sophomore year in college, so the expense has been worth it!😋
HARDIK DIXIT I play on a limited edition Altus brand flute. Mine is a professional model flute, which are always more expensive than student or intermediate models because they have more features.
This was really helpful for my band class. I need to do this to pass but didn’t know how to so I appreciate this a lot!
