That was amazing! I didn’t know you could get all those sounds on a flute. If I’d heard these sounds in a piece of music I would never have guessed that they were being made by a flute. Thank you for this video.
0:27 aeolian sound: only the breath is audible, but with a precise pitch 0:55 Sound and breath simultaneously 1:07 middle register 1:19 high register 1:38 air sound inside the flute, white noise/unpitched noise 1:51 aeolian sound: only the breath is audible ( i - u ) 2:19 keyclicks: key percussion only (descending is better) 3:29 tongue pizz/slap (most effective in the first octave) 4:12 bass flute 5:03 tongue ram 5:18 bass flute
What was really helpful and deferred from the other videos was the existence of the way we (new composers) can write the above techniques! Thank you for your tips as well!
thank you so much dear Helen Bledsoe but I have a question: in the case of playing air sound inside the flute, is it just possible in the first octave? or also it works with the upper notes? thank you in advance
You can use any fingering, the effect is only a filter in terms of noise (bright, dark, white, pink, etc), not really an effect of pitch. (sorry for the late answer)
Thank you for this clear and concise demonstration! I'm trying these techniques right away. On a side note, they have the advantage of being very quiet, that is I can practice them without disturbing anyone.
