I am a in school and every year our school has a Memorial Day program where we honor all veterans related to our students and this year our Vocal Is Singing " In Flanders Fields" and it is truly beautiful we even have people come up to the mic and dedicate poppies to people
For my grandfather who fell in 1918, has no known grave and never saw my mother. For all his mates, for all those who served, those who fell and those who came back but left something behind them. For my father's friends who fell in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. For my own mates killed or injured, especially those who lie in the Falklands. For all those killed whilst serving. For all the families left behind. Speaking for myself and my family - We will always remember them.
Thankyou for sharing this film. It makes me proud to be British. God save the Queen. Rest in peace for those British heros that who fought for our freedom.
Such horrible beauty... Almost unbelievable that from such misery and horrors such beautiful and noble words may be found. It is quite simply right that we should honour, bless, and never, ever forget the sacrifice of those brave men that died for us... WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
I was born and raised in the Middle of Flanders Fields and never ever forget untill today, being 42 and living at the other side of the world 15K km away from 'Home" Respect to our allies fighting for our freedom and might they be remembered and honored..
This beautiful and heartfelt poem sums up the courage, despair and determination of the soldiers whose voices are heard in its verses. WW1 was a travesty of our world, where whole countries were set against each other because of their governments. Let the ones who died for this and all wars be not forgotten because they have made another world for us, the civilians, the survivors. It was long ago, but it's not forgotten and we have all inherited some influences from this war through our parents and their parents.
Peace to all! Thank you to all those who dedicate and have dedicated their lives for our freedom and rights. You will never be forgotten.....lots of love and appreciation!
Thank you,to each and every soul whom endured the most atrocious battles bravely fighting for their cause. Now in 2014 the words of John McCrae one hundred years on from the beginning of the Great War still send out a loud message,no more wars,please...! RIP.
I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me. Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies. Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me. Perfect background hymn for this brilliant and emotive. May all those brave souls rest in peace.
No one can pretend that they truly understand what this poem really means. My country lost 1.8 million men. How can we understand this ? We can't. How can we apprehend it ? We can't. But we can try to remember it. Those who ended up on this YT video will remember it. Peace brothers. Let's all remember the fallen.
Every village and town(not to forget Paddington Station)has it's memorial to The Fallen, and since seeing so many, on 11 Nov, I think more of them than I ever did growing up, and being at the Cenotaph for Remembrance Day is one of the most moving things I've done when visiting the UK
I've never been to Europe but would love to see it. I've been to many of the American Revolution and the majority of the American Civil War sights. I always get a feeling with both. It's amazing really, even if you were completely ignorant of the history, it seems you can't help but get a feeling at these places that something big happened there. There is an undeniable and unexplainable energy in these places. It's even more amazing how peacefull these places are now when you know the history.
Have loved both of these poems since i was young. Laurence Binyon's verse is often heard, not so much John McCrae's. McCrae was, I believe, a medical officer working in a dug out during the battle of Ypres. May we never ever forget.
I'm italian and i'm studing this poem for school. This video is very affecting. My teacher this weekend went to london and saw the poppies at the castel. He also bought an artificial poppy and he wear this also when he is at school!!!!!!!! =)
this poem is so touching, sad, poignant, a smarting pain. after all these years this poem stays for ever and ever as the most poignant testimony of this cruel and senseless war. Never should there be any other war between European peoples. NO MORE WAR !! NEVER AGAIN !
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
@normalil that's kind of funny to me. I have never heard the Laurence Binyon verse. But In Flander's Fields has been compelling to me my whole life. And I know I've even heard part of it on a movie or two.
WE as same race of people not need to be fighting in EU ..it sames the only ones to gain is those little pea on country's that started fight THAT WHAT real cold wars was about,,Obama is worst moron next to carter ..
target Estimating Services we must live in the big, union Europe, in cofederation of sovereign states. In this formation we can became the third power between US and PRC.
@peterwilliams6 it is probably because after nearly a century we still live with the consequences of this war, this great war, this war "to end all wars" WW1 is a massive turning point in the 20th century
what is it about WW1 that stirs one's emotions so? It is like empathizing with those that were there. If I ever had an argument for reincarnation this would be it. The intense pathos I feel whenever I experience any WW1 site or film has to have a reason somewhere. I do not experience the same inner turmoil with WW2 sites. Anybody else get the same disturbing feeling?
Because not a single person can envy a man who every night for four years slept in a quagmire we cant even fathom in the darkest places of our mind. Europe has not seen peace like this since the Pax Romanus, and we owe it to men who died on an unimaginable scale never before seen in human conflict. This is the darkest part of mankind's history and we are so lucky to have not experienced it.
Brings a lump to my throat.
These men were true heroes.
oLIvE PiG did you really need to make it a gender thing
John McCrae was my great uncle. We are very proud of his accomplishments.
Rj Fuhrman you should be proud! :)
His words cut across generations
I cannot listen to - or read this - without crying like a baby. But listen and read I will.

Love, Canada
When you go home, tell them of us and say
For their tomorrow, we gave our today.

This nearly moved me to tears. I had a great uncle who died in august 1918 and the mix of music and the great reading is perfect, thank you so much.
it's not often that I find myself crying at poetry, but this, this turns on the waterworks for me.
+xanderxelap Everytime I read it or hear it.
It is important never forget these terrible days and remember poor people who died there. ♥

RIP.
this is an excelent tribute to those who fell im glad that there are so many of these videos we shall not forget them
For all the brave ones who gave their lives in both World Wars, Korea, Malaya, Borneo, Suez, Aden, the Falklands, Iraq, and Afghanistan...
Also Vietnam. Aussies and kiwis fought there.
I did not know a Canadian wrote this poem. It is a beautiful work of art. Always remember our veterans and those who fought for us.
THIS POEM WAS WRITTEN BY JOHN McCRAE ,
A Canadian Officer , during the 1st World War.....
It is to this day Honoured by all ...
We should never forget or diminish in any way the sacrifices of the soldiers and their families. They are the reason we have the lives we now enjoy.

Beautiful tribute. Lest We Forget.

Thank you, loved this, added to a playlist...
Read this in school meeting, had to hold back the tears.

Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky

Well Done, fantastic!
My Best Wishes Mr.Paylor.

It's called 'Sunset'... often played during the lowering of the flags at sunset.
i was inspired by this poetry reading to create my own version of a fellow canadians poetry ,with some relaxing music for contemplation and reflection
