I am watching this with my granddaughter Annie, in Calgary, Canada. She is nine and has been chosen to recite Flanders Fields for her school tomorrow. Thank you for this beautiful presentation.
Less than a scarce generation later, not even thirty years later to be precise, the guns rang out once again, fueled by vile men who hated others purely based on a difference of religion, lifestyle, and skin color. The world has spiraled downhill since then.
When my grandpa was 7 the 2nd war was going on and his parents told him to hid under a porch and they’ll be back but they were killed, and he was an orphan 😭

2 days and 100 years ago the armistice was signed, as time goes those who fought bravely in both sides have already left us, but their merits and bravery shall never be forgotten. For if we forget their sacrifice, then those who died would have died in vain
McCrae is probably happy knowing that his poem, though may have seen insignificant at the time of his writing, has inspired and reminded us of the sacrifices made and the many lives lost over 100 years ago. Lest we forget the greatest tragedy to ever unfold in modern history.
25 years after The Great War my Grandfather would be one of the young men harmed by unresolved issues from The Great War. He survived his injuries, but never 100% recovered.

A bit ironic that this is the Salvation Army since Flanders Fields, desptite its evocation of death, is not a pacifist poem. It is a call to carry on and complete the task for which they died, to complete the war and achieve his countrry's goals.
It's a great poem because it is both applicable to during the Great War and after it too. The poem reminds us to never forget the lives lost and the sacrifices made in the War that sadly did not end All Wars. Like you said, during the war the poem is telling soldiers to carry on and complete the mission for those that sadly lost their lives. After the war, however, the poem is telling us that the lives lost serve a new purpose. A purpose to remind us about the horrors of war.
