    Taking a look at some of the popular stuff going on in streetwear, techwear and gorpcore style right now for spring/summer 2022. They key thing running through this video is the idea of authenticity a.k.a. the reason you're getting clowned for buying a $500 Arc'teryx jacket just to wear to the shop.
    Anything I missed, or stuff you'd like to see worn more in 2022?

    As a longtime Patagonia fan, I appreciate seeing their products in this video. They don’t have a very technical vibe, but they have many multi-use products for (what I consider) decent prices. I own several pieces from them and use them frequently. I really like the sustainability and company ethos as well.

    • @ThisIsAntwon
      @ThisIsAntwon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks! Agreed there, and I've heard nothing but good things about their clothing generally - I have a t-shirt from a long time ago but that's about it. There have been a few cases of them directly taking action when it comes to sustainability/environmental concerns which most brands don't do. Good to see!

    Yes to another gorp core video! Outdoorsy techwear has a big nostalgia factor for my youth, as a crust punk who rode freight trains, dumpster-dived, and slept outside all the time. Clothing that is waterproof, durable, vaguely apocalyptic in cut and colour, and that packs light, would have fit seamlessly with my lifestyle then if I could have afforded it. Fifteen years later with a desk job, my techwear pieces earn me an equal measure of compliments as questions about camping trips (never shook the sleeping outdoors thing lolol), but this is such a specific personal history and interest, I can never really grasp where the wider, more colourful side of techwear is going, or even really why it's popular. I would love to hear more of your thoughts!

    Shoutout from Singapore!!
    Unfortunately here in Singapore, we don't have much choice when it comes to what we WANT to wear.
    It's either sunny or raining but it'll ALWAYS be humid. We have to prioritise comfort first over fashion, so practical things like Crocs are definitely big here.
    LOVE your content but HATE you making me spend thousands 😂

    • @ThisIsAntwon

      Ayy shoutout right back! I totally get you - going to HK/Taiwan in the past I had a similar experience. I think dressing fashionably is still possible even with those kinds of constraints, but you definitely don't wanna be sweating to death just for the sake of wearing some cool multi-layered fit. Gotta stick to the nice breathable fabrics and lightweight stuff for sure

      i honestly think a pair of black crocs could go really well with a tech-wear outfit. a few of the collaborations are also more techy but also pricey.

    Well, cos and uniqlo were always unbranded. It’s more about the proper modern oversize fit and then the quality of the materials that makes the essential lines so popular. Hard to find those fits in simpler brands.

    I think a thing you missed with vintage clothing is how they feel. There is a substantial difference in how worn shirts feel compared to a brand new shirt (depending on the brand ofc). It definitely feels a lot better when something already feels worn in.

      For sure - many garments made 20+ years ago were made in smaller quantities and to higher specification than now, so they tend to age better too

    Australian here. I tried a summer Gorpcore look a few months ago... I got a few people asking me a variation of "where you going fishing?" Or "You just come back from fishing?"
    Now we're edging closer to Winter and I wonder if the question would shift to where I'm going camping or if I just come back from hiking.
    I saw someone wearing a pair of crocs as fashion piece today. Not for me. I prefer to wear my Vibram Five Fingers. 😁

    I'm only comfortable with wearing slim fits (and occasionally straight fits) because I'm, like, *really* thin, and it really bugs me that I haven't been finding enough shirts and pants of the technical kind (that I can also afford cos I'm cheap) that doesn't make my arms look like a pair of chopsticks. Glad that stuff like the Uniqlo blocktech parka and skinny jeans are still purchasable slim fits!

    • @ThisIsAntwon
      @ThisIsAntwon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dressing for your body type is also an important point and some stuff just isn't gonna work super well. Having a good awareness of what looks good on you is more important than dressing in what's 'trending' for sure. I haven't bought any GoopiMADE pants for example because I'm too tall for them, and similar things apply to quite a few of the Japanese/Korean brands.

    Have always, always been a big fan of unbranded, weighty clothes and the kind of draping they can sometimes create. You can do so many things with them and by adding some jewelry on top. Not liking the more outdoorsy types that we're getting lately, especially with overly expensive rain boots and crocs, but I might just be a boomer ? And lastly I hope we get to see more of the customizable/diy clothes/shoes like the recent nike x acronym blazer sneakers, that's a very interesting direction I'm looking forward to.
