Hi Rick! I recently made a very shallow bowl using a slap on a gym ball. The bowl completely flattened out during the drying process. I will try the tape next time! Thanks for sharing this technic!
I was surprised by the packing tape! The feet are great, they're perfect for what I've been wondering how to do. I love my handmade stamps, I use them all over my pottery like buttons. I also make a button with my signature stamp, fabulous to see you do the same. Thanks for the demo!
Thank you Rick for sharing your tips, you have given me some great ideas that I can't wait to try out. How thick is your slab. I can only make smaller pieces because my kiln is small but do you think 5mm depth is enough. Regards, June
I'm looking to make a crucible / bowl to melt glass in and I have a few questions, if I may ask? Ceramic clay and foundry clay are they the same? Can Ceramic clay / bowl be reheated to 2300 degrees multiply times without it cracking? Thanks in advance for any info. Kevin
the clays are different .. ceramic clay will not safely be reheated multiple times ... I suspect you will need clay combined with coarse particles to take the shock of being reheated then cooled.. google for recipies
+Joan Price Joan, when you get more experience and try for yourself, you will find that if you fire slab dishes to stoneware, any distortion in the forming stage is magnified in firing ..... so I would not handle the dish till it is dry. You will see that I am obsessive about not having the bowl or clay distorted. Wear a mask or wet the clay before smoothing the edges, and do it outside in a breeze..
Hi Rick., I like this video but couldn't hear what you were saying, could you redo the audio over? If so send me a note to my TH-cam inbox thanks. David from Ga.

Liked your videos. You might want to try smoothing edges when it is leather hard rather than bone dry just to cut down on silica dust.
