I have an expensive taste too but some times I can't just spend my money on some certain things , I rather do it myself with cheaper materials and it always comes out looking luxury and more expensive than the original.
It would be cool to paint the gold on the outside before spackling. That way, the texture of the glass would still show through on the inside and look more like the inspo pics:)
Safe electrics? This Is a country that hammers in earth rods and then doesn’t bother with testing them (from the videos I’ve seen on here anyway) Wire nuts to join cables (potential high resistance leading to heating issues) and has bare terminals on socket outlets. I should think that lampshade is the least of the worries.
The overwhelming majority of new construction we use Concrete encased electrodes. And in the case that you are using ground rods unless you’re using a singular ground rod engineers have not found it to be necessary to test as it always meets the minimum amount of resistance needed. Wire nuts are only typically used on connections up to 10 gauge wire. Anything much larger than that you’re using split bolts or Polaris tabs. Very solid connection. As for the light you could make the point that it is not UL listed. And that material has not gone through testing to ensure no fire hazard. But realistically if you put a LED bulb in there I sincerely doubt there would ever be a risk of overheating.
Amazing idea! Curious why you didn't paint the outside instead, before adding mud, as this would allow the inside to never scratch as well as have a professional look with full gloss almost appearing as natural gold
Plastic bowl from party city Spackle Gold spray paint Grecian gold rub n buff Sand paper or sanding block Damp Sponge Drill with hole saw attachment In the end you may also need a lamp shade ring depending on your pendant!

OH MY GOD... BE STILL MY HEART... I use Mud/wall mud on everything.... I did NOT know this could be done... Girl... YOU are a Genius... I wonder what that would have cost in an upscale store... Hundreds of dollars... EXCELLENT VIDEO...
LED lights don't even get warm to the touch anymore. Plus fabric lamp shades have been acceptable for longer than that even so proximity to the light bulb isn't an issue. As long as the weight is appropriately supported so strain isn't put on a cord that isn't meant to support it'll be fine
Putting the lightly marbled white on the inside first and then gold inside that would have been cool. Having the white shine through the dimples could be really cool.
Yes if you’re being careful but that globe can’t withstand the heat that the lightbulb will let off and it will just melt the globe, it’s a huge safety hazard that’s just a plastic bowl she used a lightbulb let’s off an exponential amount of heat. When electricity is involved it’s not a diy it’s reckless.
If you apply the paint to the outside when looking at it through the inside you’ll get the ripples from the irregular thickness plus it’s a gloss finish.
This was one of those where I kinda expected it to look terrible but then it looked like magic in the end and now I’m just wondering how you turned a plastic bowl from Walmart into a 1900$ lampshade 😂
Ha! Those bowls are great. Your shade looks great! I did a Design & Dine table for a charity event and used one of these as the dome of a flying saucer. Super handy.
Are you sure it’s actually illegal? It’s quite unlikely that it would be illegal for the consumer to go through those kinds of regulations for manufactures. Anyways it’s potential danger but when is a “dyi” project ever smart.

it looks perfect and i am so glad you did it. but i had a brainstorm idea, what if you paint the gold outside and cover it with the white, maybe you can safe the dimple look of the glas. that may look interesting. But i love how to turn a simple bowl into such a piece of art.

Side note to ensure the electrical is all safe since you don’t know if the stuff you used is flammable.

I was thinking the same thing about fire hazard.
Everybody uses LED bulbs nowadays. They give off almost no heat; certainly not enough to set anything on fire.
I literally cried out, “f*ck that’s nice” when I saw the finished product. That rub and buff looks amazing

Champagne taste on a lemonade budget.
Beer budget??? O, you 10%er! Lol We'd always say, "Champagne taste, ice water budget!" 🥂
If you are hanging any lamps or electrical appliances always remember using an external wire, never hanging it from the actual power cord.
Stay safe.
Awesome space.
IKEA has always used their power cords to hang lamps… they are much heavier wire gauge
Some power cords are stronger and made to use for this purpose

People use paper, wicker and all sorts for shades. As long as bulb doesn't get hot it's ok
Led bulbs are pretty good at not getting hot
