18 Hour Days on a Submarine

When I served on board a submarine, your days were 18 hours long.
Cold War, mid 80's. You had watch for 6 hours, then you were 'off watch' for 12 hours.
During your 'off watch' time, you had to
get your regular work done
work on qualifications
eat
sleep
shower
DRILL
Before you are fully qualified, you get very little sleep. One of the reasons I believe i'm always up early and cant sleep much to this day.
