    Just got my Nikola. Couldn’t agree more about Soft mode. Learned to ride in Hard, and when I changed over it was like unlocking a cheat code. The whole experience got smoother and cleaner. I appreciate this review it helped sell me on the Nikola and I’m loving it 50 miles in.

    I wish I'd watched this before I set off on the inaugural run of my Nikola plus last Tuesday.
    I bought a spotless low millage used Ninebot S2 at the beginning of lock down. So pretty. Never been on anything close other than some dirt bike experience when I was young (20 years ago) After a few days of knocked shins and trapped fingers in the wheel. I mastered not falling off quite so regularly. Then I was smitten. Within the first month I had watched so many videos and got so sick of the 15mph speed limit that i decided the Nikola plus 100v sounded the most cutting edge for my first serious wheel. And the best chance of keeping the beeps out my life.
    So 6weeks later my wheel arrived and after an hour of admiration and familiarisation, removing tilt back, setting speed warning at 20mph. I adorned my safety gear(lots and lots) and set off. Completely different feeling to the tiny S2 but what a great solid feel. I set off down the winding newly laid road to one of our beaches. Turning heads a plenty. Stopped at the bottom and turned off the 20mph speed beep I'd set. I hadn't hit 20mph yet but I was feeling brave. Back up the hill till I hit the level straight at the top.
    Wheel was rock solid and standing straight as I looked at the speed rise on my phone to 24mph I felt the freedom long denied by the Ninebot. Then the wobble happened. Not sure how it began. I tried to grip with my knees but that only seemed to anger the Nikola. I was suddenly, right arm outstretched, hurled into the tarmac. Sliding to a halt with the sound of my brand new Nikola crunching and scraping out of sight. I stood up with zero pain amazed that I hadn't sustained even a scratch?
    My Jacket and trousers look like they should now though. A few battle scars on protection makes them feel like I got value for my money.
    The wheel however took it hardest. Both side panels heavily scarred, the handle buckled and I chipped the corner off a foot plate. Got back on and started home. Got half way and my shoulder started hurting. Then i started to go into a bit of shock. Got off and pushed it home. Head spinning and sweating buckets. Turns out I pulled shoulder muscle (few days later found out I cracked a rib too). Spent the Wednesday covering the Nikola in 10mm neoprene. I also noticed it was on hard setting so changed it to soft. Much better. I was out on it on thursday and every day since. Love it so much and when I go out tomorrow I'll try the offset stance. Had been doing the dominant leg stance since the crash but still nervous about higher speeds. Give me a month and I'll be pushing the beeps lol.
    Great video thanks, I just wish I'd watched it first lol. Still sore as hell. The joys of being 50.

      Hey I'm a plumber a Scottish one at that. I heal faster than a purring cat. As for the Nikola, my S2 is so scratched up it'll take a long time for the Nikola to catch up. I do like my stuff rough. Just like me lol.
      Love this thing off road too with lower tyre pressures. Dropped more off road than on. You need to get off road here to see the land. It's glorious scenery in Fife. The Nikola just opens it all up. Love you're content, even if it does look a wee bit too warm and flat for my liking.
      The roads in Scotland are much more winding and narrow. No bike lanes. And we're about to legalise personal electric vehicles for use in the UK from July. I picked the perfect time to get amped up.

    just have to pass this on. The CST tire is prone to speed wobbles due to the center ridge on the tire. I just changed to the Chaoyang H-666 tire which is absolutely amazing! I now ride comfortable at 30+mph no wobbles, check my phone and carving is a dream. Like riding 3 inches off the pavement. If you are in love with the Nik 100v you owe it to yourself to do this tire change. You will be sooo happy you did. Peace and love the vids.... ride on brother!

    Awesome video Mickey! Lots of helpful tips. I am loving my Nikola 100V. My first EUC was the Fastwheel Eva Pro back in July 2015 with max speed 12 mph! Lol. I got bored after 3 months and switched to KS14C followed by the KS18L. Now with the Nikola 100V and what a great upgrade! The speed and range are amazing and no more speed throttling. That offset stance and leaning back when braking is just the perfect recipe to stop the wobbles. Keep up the great work!

    My 1st wheel is one that is pretty much more of a toy than a proper wheel. I still have it and it still is perfectly fine. It is a freeman 14in. It has a massive 132wh battery, pedals the size of baby hands and tilt back for speed starts at 9mph but if your brave you can ride the tilt back to 12mph. Range is about 4 miles give or take a little. I rode this wheel in to work from where I would have to park about half a mile away for 3 weeks before ordering a 16s. Now my 16s has about 3200 miles on it and my mcm5 has about 3400 miles on it. Oddly I still have fun grooving off on the little freeman, makes me want an mten3 for playing around in small areas. I need a fast wheel with decent range, and I like a little bit of flick ability so it seems the Nikola plus would tick a lot of boxes. I want 18xl range but with msx speed and this seems to do that very well!

    Nikola was my first wheel. I had issues with the wobble for the first weeks, but now I even like riding it in hard mode for responsiveness, nearly no wobble since I got used to it. I have custom DIY made pads. Love the wheel, I'm 92kg so I need the power and huge battery!

    Fantastic video, mate! Just started started last year in April. Had a red ACM 16 67V on sale shipped all the way to the Philippines by SpeedyFeet. The roads are like sandpaper here, so it got scratched up pretty good despite a protective I made. Still riding on it daily, although I was able to purchase a slightly used 84v MSX in Manila last Christmas. Love it to bits and prefer it on short sub-20km trips, because it's nimbleness and thin tyre is keeping on my toes on these cracked, pothole-riddled roads.

    Another great video Mickey! I just upgraded from the V8 to the Nikola Plus 100V. I agree with everything you said about it. I'll have to give the soft mode a try. The question I have has to do with speed and beeps. The first time I hit 20mph I heard two beeps. I shut it down immediately, and got the wobble you talk about. I then disabled the first alarm, but still got the two beeps at 22mph. I know this wheel is capable of much faster than that, but I've seen too many people eat the pavement from ignoring the beeps. What are your thoughts on these beeps. Are these beeps at this low of speed normal? I'm not the lightest rider, but at 200lbs I would expect to at least get into the 30's. Any feedback you could give me would help. Thanks.

    • @shibbles321GO
      @shibbles321GO 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      low speed beeps are normal safety feature letting you know how fast you're moving. IF you here 5 beeps it means the wheel is using 80% of its available power capacity THIS is when you should slow down or not push any faster. 2 beeps should be fine iirc

    • @mikecpope4679
      @mikecpope4679 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shibbles321GO Thanks for the information. I kinda figured it was something like that, but wanted to get input from someone who was familiar with this wheel before pushing it and landing on my face. I came from a V8 where I never got close to 20mph, so anything above that still feels fast to me. I'll be more confident to push it faster now. Thanks again!

    • @evXNYC
      @evXNYC  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to disable all alarms and “close tiltback”. Remember this doesn’t mean it won’t beep. It just means you won’t hear beeps til much later. This wheel can hit 42-43 at top end; I’ve done it. So for you, the first beeps may come at 37mph when you have all alarms turned off. But you may not want to push beyond 39mph with your rider weight. But definitely turn off all alarms.

    • @mikecpope4679
      @mikecpope4679 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My first wheel? Nikola 84v 🤗
    I started practicing with my friends V5 for a few days. I then had the opportunity to try a Nikola and Monster.
    I was immediately hooked!!! We were literally in the middle of a group ride when I stopped at the bank and bought the Nikola right there haha.
    I since taught many friends how to ride on the Nikola and eventually sold it. Currently riding MSX 84v. It’s great for everyday riding, but I could use a 100v Monster in my life too, for those long cross country rides I like to explore on.
    Maybe GotWay will make something perfect right in the middle for us...
    100v Monster Mini - 20x3 tire - Top speed 50mph (so I can safely ride at 45mph). With my 5’5” 125lb jockey stature, I could probably ride at 35mph the whole time and get 100 miles on one charge ;)

    I don't know if soft medium hard mode is the same as on the Gotway tesla, but the responsiveness on soft is horrible IMO. You lean back and it takes loads of time before it brakes full tilt. Same thing when accelerating. Sure it gives some more ride time due to softer Accel, but its defensively not safer if you need to emergency break for something since breaking distances is longer. To me after 4000km on my Tesla i never ride hardcore in soft or medium mode. For crusing with mot people around sure, but not when "fun riding". Once you get used to hard mode its pretty hard to like soft. Ive ridden all modes plenty, but allways fall back to hard as its more reactive.
    It might be "safer" since its not as easy to cutout from accel and deccel (I have been on the edge of cutting out during accel...wheel basically didnt supply very constant power when leaning max and started to wobble "behind me" but i barely managed to keep it alive and catch up with the lean. It was just a second or two, but did not feel very safe from a manufacturing point of view, so i guess MSP would be my next choice of wheel)

    • @evXNYC
      @evXNYC  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah the Tesla isn’t powerful enough to handle soft mode correctly. On the Nikola you can stop crazy fast.

    Great footage as always! Question: is it me or you disconnected the audio module of the Nikola? So proud of the beep but not the "tu-du-tu-du-tuuuu", right? :D BTW, for some time now, I'm struggling between the crowd-friendly KS16x, comfy-torquy MSP, and crazy-agile-powerful Nikola+ (21700 cells). Keeping all of them for now depending on the mood and schedule of the day. Started with Nunebot E+ 5 years ago, which I sold 3 months after getting it to start the EUC "bigger-faster" performance-violence-escalation :)

    Hi 👋 with Gotways, this Nikola in particular, the tiltback/throttle control occurs at very low voltage and/or is subtle. I come from the power e-scooters world and can't imagine riding and suddenly slow down like it's a flat tire

    been riding for a 5 weeks (total) - 4 on the KS18XL - I switched to Soft and lowered the tire pressure a bit (riding at 29 psi atm) about two weeks ago. I weigh 150lbs/68kg. what I found is the KS just flows better on soft - everything about the ride feels smoother and better. I switched back to hard and rode for a couple hours... nope! back to soft
    edit: my first wheel was a discount Ninebot One E+ - learned on it, and ordered the KS before the first week! Its super fun to jump on and zip around now that I have a tiny bit of skill - but I live on the KS now. I'm super comfortable cruising in the high 20's but my next wheel will be a lot faster for sure

    Riding offset isn’t what avoids wobbles per se. the cause of wobbles is imbalance. In your case, you are actually correcting for a personal imbalance by offsetting your feet. You personally may accomplish the same thing by shifting weight from heels to toes on one foot or the other, keeping a symmetrical stance.
    For someone else, offset feet may create a terrible imbalance.
