  • Roy was a bluegrass and country music entertainer who also starred in many different television shows and movies. He is probably best known for co-hosting the show Hee Haw. At one time in the 1970's he was the highest paid country artist.

    Thanks for posting your visit to Roy's final resting place. He was an awesome entertainer who projected a warm friendliness....someone you'd love to have had lunch and chat with.
    I personally never heard any stories of him getting in trouble because of alcohol or dope. He had a problem with punctuality when he was with Jimmy Dean so Dean fired him. I guess that was his most serious shortcoming. R.I.P. Roy.....loved your guitar pickin'.

    I met Roy 46 years ago when I was 9 months pregnant and was very large. He was concerned that I might go into labor during his show and that I might not get help in time so he sat me and my husband at the time in the front row middle so he could keep an eye on me. All during the concert he would stand in front of me and question me with a silent thumbs up. It was the sweetest thing ever. I loved him then and I love him now. I hope I never lose that memory💖. Thank you so very much Rhetty for bringing him in front of me again. Thumbs up Roy💖

    You're right. Roy Clark was still pickin' and a grinin' to the end. (1:20) I'm related to the family that owns the Baldknobber's theater in Branson, Missouri. Roy Clark was playing afternoon matinees concerts at their theater almost until the day he died. He was a legendary entertainer. The man could play almost any instrument you threw at him. I regret that I didn't get down to Branson and see him play before he died.

    In the 1980's Roy Clark sat in the box next to us, on more then one occasion, at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD. Of course we had to shout out "Hee Haw" when we recognized him. Everyone smiled. He was always jovial, smiling and willing to engage in conversation. No pretense at all. He was just a very nice person and down to earth man. May he rest in peace.

    Awesome grave site... a fitting tribute to a legendary entertainer.
    I first become aware of Roy Clark back in the late 1970's. I bought a compilation double LP set called "Country Comes to Carnegie Hall". The were four star artists on the show.... Roy Clark, Don Williams, Hank Thompson and Freddy Fender.
    When I got to hear Roy playing "Under the Double Eagles" on it, I was stunned. It was beyond amazing.

Ive tried to talk another southern historian You Tuber to do bios of the Hee Haw cast to include putting a camera on their final resting place.

    There will never be another one like him. Why must all of the great ones go? Music today is just not the same with these singing wannabes. Musicians today wouldn't know what real music sounds like, especially country music. Now you can't hardly tell the difference between country music and heavy metal since it all sounds the same these days.

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do think you're right in that the sounds are really blended. I know there has been some that crossed over or sounded like pop. But I do think there are less of the actual all around musicians like there used to be. The music now days can be doctored to sound better so much easier than what it used to be. A lot of those old musicians had to sound good on their own or they wouldn't make it. Thanks for watching!
