It was nice in comparison today but compared to other decades they aren't really that good. The cold war created this cold, bleak atmosphere which is really apparent when you listen to the music. Just as artificial and boring. Synth pop was the curse that computerized music and ultimately led to the industry's downfall. All that computer made crap goes back to that era. Sure there were still good bands around I don't doubt that. But it can't compete with what was going on in the 60s and 70s. That is me saying that as a 90s kid. The culture itself though was of course way more open and real life oriented than today. So were the naughties when I grew up. Don't get me wrong I love 80s movies and a bunch of other stuff from that time since I was born in 83´ so I still perceived some of the Zeitgeist. But objectively speaking the generations before me had better music.

The best time to grow up is when we are around 12 years old, no matter what decade it is. Someone who is born in 1998, wouldn't agree that the 80's was the best decade to grow up.

We went from horses to aircraft and spacecraft in less than a century. The industrial revolution really was one of the most important events in human history. Today all development has slowed down. We were supposed to have hover-cars and moon colonies by the year 2000. Instead we have people who don't know which restrooms to use throwing tantrums while the third world drags us down to their level.

I grew up in the '80s and had a pretty terrible childhood by most standards. That said, I still look back on that time period as the best time of my life. There was indeed something special about the '80s. Spending the summer being outside all day with my friends, exploring around on our bikes, building forts in the woods, and generally raising hell was always exciting. Going to the video store to rent a good VHS tape, with classics like Commando and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, was a highlight. No cell phones meant you had to memorize all of your friends' phone numbers. No need to call, though; you just went over to their house and knocked on the door to see if they were home. Everything was more laid-back and genuine; people were nicer and much more active. All of this technology we've become accustomed to is doing the opposite of what it's intended to do. Rather than bringing us closer together, it's drawing us farther apart. I look forward to living my life over and experiencing the '80s again.

This technology is a problem in that regards but ironically it's also the solution since you can always find something to either confirm or debunk almost anything. The "do your own research" crowd are the ones least likey to take their own advice, since their research equates to some memes that someone else posted. Very few actually go looking to find out if it's true or not.

The simplicity, diversity in music etc. Happy era and thank god we only had to deal with fire drills compared to what kids deal with today. Riding the bus home the bus driver would play here mix tapes for us, Nintendo (The original) we used our imaginations.
